Far Post Bar Renamed in Burley's Honour
Monday, 17th Oct 2022 12:39

Town are to rename the Far Post Bar in honour of former player and boss George Burley ahead of Friday’s live Sky game against Derby County, another of the clubs he managed.

The Far Post Bar is in the Cobbold Stand next to the Hall of Fame restaurant, what for many years was known as the Centre Spot. It will now be known as Burley's Bar.

Scotland international Burley, a member of Sir Bobby Robson’s side which won the FA Cup in 1978, will cut the ribbon at 5pm with teammates from his time as a right-back between 1972 and 1985 and players from the Town sides he managed from 1994 to 2002 present.

Burley, 66, who missed out on a UEFA Cup medal in 1981 due to injury but was a regular in that team, took Town into the play-offs on four occasions in the late 1990s before taking the Blues into the Premier League via the final at Wembley in 2000 and then to fifth and a UEFA Cup place the following season. Fans can attend the opening by gathering outside the bar.

The bar, which has been redecorated and carpeted, will feature acrylics of Burley from his spells at the club, as well as the shirt he wore at Wembley in 1978. A number of LG TVs have also been fitted.

Burley’s Bar is available for hospitality guests who have booked boxes in the Cobbold Stand or a meal in the Hall of Fame.

The word "legend" is often over-used in football contexts, but not in this case. GB is right up there with Sir Bobby and Sir Alf. He had already achieved cult status just as a player, but he then went on to give us some of the most exciting times we've had in the past 50 years or

This is great and shows that despite a recent takeover and American owners we still stay very much a family club---well done to all concerned.
