Charlton boss Ben Garner is looking for his side to bounce back from Tuesday's first home defeat of the season when they meet the Blues at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Addicks were defeated 2-0 by MK Dons, who went in to the match bottom of the table, with the game’s decisive moment defender Ryan Inniss’s red card in an incident which led to a penalty and the first goal.

“For me I'd love to be packing out every game at The Valley,” Garner told his club website. “We want to get as many fans in as possible to create that atmosphere in every single game.

“The support was great at Shrewsbury on Saturday [when they won 1-0] with the players being able to go and celebrate with the supporters after the game, and across the season at The Valley the support has been great.

“That's why that decision [Inniss’s dismissal and the resultant penalty] in midweek is so frustrating because you don't just lose the game, you lose an unbeaten home record which has been a big strength of ours.

“We want to put it right. We want to bounce back quickly on Saturday and the supporters will play a huge part with the atmosphere.

“It's a game we are really looking forward to. After the disappointment of Tuesday night I think it's a game that everyone will look forward to and be motivated for.”

Regarding Town, he added: ”Ipswich are a really strong side. It’s well-documented that they have been heavily backed over the last couple of years financially and have had a real go on that front, but that doesn't guarantee success; it didn't last year.

“[Manager] Kieran [McKenna] has gone in there and done a fantastic job since being appointed last season. They play in a really good way; they are a possession-based team who are very controlled in what they do and they have some really intelligent movement within their shape. With and without the ball they are very well-organised.

“You can see they are drilled on the training ground in what they do and they have got great depth to change the squad.

“They can play one of their nines and the two 10s and then they can completely change them in the next game and there's no drop in the quality - they just have different strengths and different abilities.

“That's the stage that hopefully we can get to with another couple of transfer windows and some investment to get a stronger squad in terms of depth.”

gosblue added 13:53 - Oct 29 If by ‘heavily backed' he means 16500 season tickets, 28000 home gate, record shirt sales, then I agree. Charlton rarely get 13000 at home which is less than half full.
