U21s Surrender Four-Goal Lead to Draw at QPR
Friday, 28th Oct 2022 14:58

Town’s U21s surrendered a 4-0 lead as they drew 4-4 with QPR in Professional Development League Two South at Loftus Road this afternoon.

The Blues, with senior midfielder Panutche Camara starting as he looks to build on his match fitness while former Town loanee Macauley Bonne lined-up for the West Londoners, went ahead via Jesse Nwabueze (pictured) in the sixth minute with Matt Ward making it 2-0 three minutes later.

Nwabueze added his second and Town’s third on the quarter-hour, then Gerrard Buabo made it 4-0 in only the 25th minute.

But the QPR fightback started in the 39th minute when Conor Masterson pulled a goal back to make the scoreline 4-1 at the break, Bonne having clipped the bar in the latter stages.

The home side grabbed their second in the 69th minute through Isaac Pitblado, then a minute later Steven Bala made it 4-3.

Olamide Shodipo completed a remarkable comeback to level the scores at 4-4 in the 75th minute, then five minutes later Rangers were reduced to 10 men when Masterson was dismissed for two bookable offences, the second a foul on Nico Valentine, who signed his first professional contract with Town on Wednesday.

Town: Williamson, Agbaje (c), H Barbrook, Cousens, Bradshaw, Cutbush, Camara, Siziba, Ward, Buabo, Nwabueze. Subs: Cullum, Valentine, F Barbrook, Haddoch, Taylor.

Dear oh dear lol

I laughed when I saw QPR tweet at 1-4 that they "had a way back into this one"

This squandering lead epidemic is spreading through the club. We must find a vaccine fast.

Quite a few missing by the looks of things - Stewart, Armin, Alexander, Curtis, Chirewa - makes a huge difference not having them all in the team.

The team on the field were good enough to go 4-0 up. Don't make excuses for missing players. This is competitive sport. The team lost focus and got what they deserved. A good lesson for young players not to take the foot of the gas until the final whistle. Great to see Alife Cutbush back. He is a talented boy.

A precursor to the main event. Would have made a very lucrative accumulator bet over both games.
