Blues Linked With Palace Forward
Sunday, 1st Jan 2023 10:32

Town have been linked with Crystal Palace forward Malcolm Ebiowei.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Blues are eyeing the 19-year-old with a view to offering him regular football in the second half of the season.

Ebiowei, who primarily plays wide on the right but also on the left and as a number 10, moved to Selhurst Park in the summer from Derby, where he had made 11 starts and five sub appearances, scoring once.

Since moving to Palace, the former Dutch U15 and England U16 and U20 international has made five appearances from the bench. Swansea City and Hull City are also claimed to be keen.

Town are understood to be in the market for another forward during the January transfer window, which opens today, with Tyreece John-Jules currently sidelined having undergone hamstring surgery and the Blues having been short of options during Marcus Harness’s recent spell out with a knee problem.

TWTD revealed in November that Swansea’s Morgan Whittaker, who is currently on loan at Plymouth, is among those on the Blues’ list of potential January recruits with further speculation that that move could be on the cards over recent days.

A fortnight ago, Ebiowei’s Palace teammate Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic, was also linked with the Blues and we understand the 20-year-old is another on Town’s list. Rak-Sakyi is now said to be a January target of Barnsley.

Elsewhere, Brighton’s Republic of Ireland international striker Evan Ferguson, 18, who Town have also shown interest in this season, scored his first Premier League goal after coming on as a sub during last night’s 4-2 home defeat by Arsenal.

See this as an option to put some pressure on Burns, who frankly has been awful this season. Prime target must be a goalscorer though, who can get on the end of the numerous chances we're creating.

Get him in and rest Burns.

I'd sooner Edwards or the brilliant Aluko got more opportunities to be honest.

We need a reasonably experienced 24-28 year old striker who's capable of putting the ball in the net at this level & holding the ball up when it gets played to him (unlike some I could mention) - Taking gambles on 19 year olds is a big risk.

Btw,when are we going to bring a new young striker through our own system?..seems ages ago we last did that..Wickham / Marriott ?

Have to trust our management but just for this window I would like to see at least a couple of experienced heads coming in. This window is really about making sure we are promoted this season and not so much planning ahead further than that.

I feel confident we'll get the right calbre of players in and push on 2nd half of season. I am optimistic for town in 2023. Happy New Year everyone.

These players are too young. We need some experience. They won't take us up. We need promotion not a whole squad of prospects that are still learning the game.

We're the league top scorers but have conceded more than the teams around us so why do so many of you keep pressing for a goal scorer instead of a defender.

Looks like he could be a very handy player around the box when teams have parked the bus against us, with that footwork and those tricks. Could create chances and draw penalties. Might be a better no 10 than wide player?

Box to box we are excellent. Our possession stats speak for themselves. However in both boxes we are lacking something. In my opinion to improve we need two first team players. A central defender and a striker. Quality rather than quantity for me.

Some of the comments on here beggar belief- we are second in the league and someone has posted about getting the revolving doors going 🙄 - yes good idea, let's start bedding lots of players into a team with 20 odd games to go. Gelling anyone🤦‍♂️
@chepstoweblue has hit the nail on the head - why sign players like this when we have aluko/Edwards, just play them more regularly.
Just in my humble opinion, if we had Marcus Stewart or David Johnson playing in this team, we would have pIssed this league

Agree with Vitalsigns. This squad is so nearly there. I'm not even convinced about a striker tbh, I think our issue is eradicating errors at ghe back. We have such long spells of possession it must make it very hard to keep concentration defensively. For all our % of possession I'd be interested to see how often we enter the 18yd box? Strikers need service, and right now we are not missing gilt edged chance after chance. As for Burns, the criticism on here is harsh at best. Anyone stopped to consider whether he may be one suffering with illness?

One of the most pleasing aspects of our summer recruitment was the forward planning and a non reliance on loans. Hopefully we don't bring three or so loans in now. That said with TJJ out for a while, one carefully selected loan, who is better than what we have, would indeed be a very sensible move.

Our priority may not be a striker....we should perhaps look at a ready made experienced defender...KMK recognised we had an issue here by bringing in Keogh to offer some experienced advice and support to our current defenders. However this has t quite worked out and I believe we need an on the field defender to stop those sloppy aerial goals such as the Portsmouth 2nd goal ..whilst Marcus Stewart was an inspiration don't forget the roles that Mowbray and Venus played in our success in 2000.if we sign a forward I agree with others we don't want a young player finding his way .we already have Adhadme doing that role..we need a proven player to get us up ..we will need to invest heavily as the Jan window is not cheap to get the right players ..but if we are serious about this we have to spend serious cash...

Must get a striker, with JJ out we need a 10 as well. These are where the injuries made us look short.

The one position that I think we will strengthen is in goal. I know this may not be a popular shout but CW has lost all his confidence since Charlton, and if we could get Hladky out id sign another keeper, even if its a short term deal.

We should be OK at the back, we have three plus Fridge and Keogh, we know we are a midfielder short with Ball and Camara out so one in there too.

Clarke-Harris, Whittaker, Taylor and a loan for a PL 3rd string or Ch keeper please. Give me a nudge when its done.

Ta :)

While i agree that some of the criticism of Burns is over the top, I dont think it can be blamed on the illness going around the club right now. He hasnt played well all season so far, bar the Cambridge game and bits and pieces in other games. But was probably too much to expect him to be as outstanding as he was, most of last season. Certainly not been as poor as some have suggested on here, but certainly not the player we had last season. So far.

Whilst this lad looks impressive from his YouTube clips has he got any better end product than those currently on the books. Keenan-Bennetts from the mighty German club promised so much in his first ten yards but then consistently fizzled out like a damp firework, Kyle Edwards again looks George Bestesque over his first 10 yards but has an awful end product. These young lads should take a leaf out of David Beckham's book, back in the afternoon's once everyone has gone home to work and work again on the missing link in their game. It shouldn't be difficult because the base skill is there with some of them, they just need to find a relentless drive to be better then everyone else in their position and more, rather than chillin and rapping with their mates!!!

Quite frankly unless we can sign a forward who can have the presence and impact of a Toney or a Clarke-Harris then I would have to say no to a young player failing to make an impact with their premier club, the only other exception is if they were a Tammy Abraham mark 2 who had such a strong impact at Bristol City then I may be tempted.

Midfield backup such as Loungo looks a good shout, I might have been tempted to have gone for Charlie Austin on a short term contract had he not gone to Swindon.

Whittaker, on loan to Plymouth from Swansea scored again today. Depends what his loan arrangement is but to take a player from a rival could prove interesting.

Burns has been a provider and goalscorer for the majority of matches this season.

Drop him at your own risk.

This for me is simple.

In McKenna we trust.

He knows more than the rest of us put together and some.

As some have said I think id rather strengthen at the back if it was possible to get someone of Championship calibre. Have we literally got no one in the U-21 who can step up to the forward line ?

Nomore4 added 13:31 - Jan 2
Burley he keeps trying to get goals out of Jackson. He thinks the team at the foot of the table is a good team. He signed a forward form Burton who has never scored even occasionally, after seeing him once.
My trust is wearing thin.
