Derby and Watford Eyeing El Mizouni
Monday, 8th May 2023 15:47

TWTD understands Derby County and Watford are eyeing a summer move for Blues midfielder Idris El Mizouni, who has just completed a successful loan spell with League Two champions Leyton Orient.

El Mizouni, 22, is contracted to Town until the summer of 2024 with the club having an option for a further season.

However, despite his excellent campaign at Brisbane Road - he was named Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year and was included in the EFL League Two Team of the Season - the Tunisia international is likely to find himself well back in the pecking order for a central midfield role when he returns to Town for pre-season training.

Skipper Samy Morsy and Massimo Luongo have been regulars in those roles during the latter stages of the season, while Dominic Ball started yesterday's final game at Fleetwood.

Lee Evans was a key member of the side in the first half of the campaign before suffering injury and was replaced by youngster Cameron Humphreys. Panutche Camara was signed from Plymouth last summer but missed most of the campaign through injury.

That being the situation, the Blues might well be willing to listen to offers for Paris-born El Mizouni, who having played regularly for the O’s this season, will presumably want to continue to play week-in, week-out in 2023/24.

Asked about his future having been named in the League Two select XI last month, the academy product said: “First of all finish the season strong and then come back in pre-season, be strong and see what happens next year.”

El Mizouni has made 16 senior starts for the Blues and 10 sub appearances, scoring twice.

Might not be behind Ball and Evans by the start of next season might depend on pre season .

Is Evans really worth being a starter in the Championship next season, given that we improved so much after Luongo came in? If we bring in a better defensive midfielder, some of these players will be surplus to requirements. El Miz looks ready to start in League 1 so another loan is possible.

Lots might depend on budgets and costs for imports ; as a Club we're well used to ‘having' to develop and sell on the talent into which we've invested time and resources.
EM has thus far developed well and is realising his potential ; much will depend on how KM and MA view the future planning and team building .
It could be possible EM will or could play in different roles ,and be a very useful all rounder .
We shall see ,but wish him well .

Deal - Take the cash
Love Morsy and Lounge but I think to succeed in the Championship we will need to upgrade at least one of the centre mids - taller, quicker, more goals - Middlesboro, I guess, thought this as well

Evans was arguably our best player up until his injury. He's plenty good enough. We should also be eyeing El Mizouni. He's also plenty good enough.

It will depend upon whether The Boss thinks he can coach improvement into him.
I suspect he will think he can and he will stay.

McKenna will be targeting at least the play offs next season and with money available will be looking to upgrade above the likes of Evans and Mizouni both decent players. It was alarming how much we missed Morsy at Fleetwood and we cannot afford to rely on him being fit for the whole season in a physically more demanding league so a quality midfield player must be on the short list next season.

Agree Town missed Morsy……would like to see Luongo sign….Don't think Ball will be good enough for the Championship week in week out.
Would like to see Town a class midfielder to go along side Morsy….Evans and Luongo and Humphrey as the back up.

Ashton has confirmed we will look to strengthen in the summer. Evans is a good player, but let's face it, his injury record since joining us is appalling. Ball isn't good enough, if as we all suspect, the owners want to press on.

MickMillsTash - Boro didn't think this, they were forced to sell him after the first few weeks of the season to balance their books.

He was a starter for them, they didn't want to move him on.

Not sure what MF role El-Miz plays but surely if other championship clubs are looking at him then surely we must also. At 22yrs of age he surely has a future here and can be developed further still and take over from the likes of Evans/Ball in the very near future.

I hope he stays with us….

Got to listen to sensible offers - but the key thing (based on experience of a number of past sales of promising youngsters) is to get a decent sell-on clause.

He is one of our prized young assets. There is no way we will let him go only for another club to make a massive profit on him in the future. Ashton has already mentioned that what this is not the way we do things anymore. He will be integrated into the squad and developed.

Ball hasn't done enough in my humble opinion. For an experienced player he always looks to be panicking when in possession. Keep EM and another loan to a decent L1 side aiming for promotion will build up his confidence no end.

I can't see him staying here, Camara by all accounts is a decent player we already have 6, we can't keep everyone happy so I'd personally take the money. At the end of the day anyone coming into this squad needs premiership potential now, one full season in league two doesn't feel like justification to keep him. Take the money and reinvest

the owners say they will be behind km in the transfer market.
its a ruthless business and ITFC come first.
there may be a few leaving in the close season, then so be it.

How about another year loaned out at a higher level everyone wins then!

Radlettblue. What are you on about? Evans was arguably our best player until he got injured. Our form dipped after that. Bcse we only had humphries fit to take his place. And as well as he did, that upset the shape ofcthe side, with morsy jot able to play his normal game, to get forward. Thus when Luongo came in, that then helped morsy to get back to playing his usual game. So yes ,Evans perfectly good enough. Whether he gets in tho, could much depend on who we have available to play in that position come august.

A season long loan to Derby might make a huge amount of sense.

I know that Dom Ball was just coming back from injury, but he didn't look Championship level against Fleetwood.

Ball is solely a holding midfielder he hasn't got the drive and energy or skill on the ball that the likes of Morsy or Luongo have got and don't really see him as an ideal replacement. It's gone a bit quite on the Camara fitness front which gives me the feeling all is not going well. He's had 3 operations on the same injury which is never a good sign i expect him to be training at the start of preseason.

Agree with a few on here. Evans was our best player last season until his injury, people seem to have forgotten just how good he looked. He is easily good enough to spray balls around in the championship and win tackles. He's a very good player. Morsy and Luongo are more similar to each other. Based off of his tape Camara is a player who carries the ball and drives forward more (albeit his finishing looks terrible). Morsy is nailed on and then Evans, Luongo and Camara are all good candidates alongside him.....and maybe an addition in that area too......but i think we are fairly well stocked there if Camara Pans out (Pun intended).

Camara is fine. Has played a couple of u21 games, and was always unlikely to play for 1st team this season. Unless he had an op while with plymouth, he's only had 2 ops, the 2nd due to something not picked up during his 1st op. All being well, should be ready for next season, with a full preseason behind him. And will be like a new signing for us really.
