John-Jules: I Enjoyed Every Minute at Ipswich
Monday, 22nd May 2023 14:51

Blues loanee Tyreece John-Jules says he enjoyed every minute of his loan spell at Portman Road.

John-Jules, 22, spent the season on loan with Town from Arsenal making 10 starts and 11 sub appearances, scoring three times.

However, the forward’s final appearance of the campaign was at Charlton in October with a hamstring injury requiring surgery, then a quad problem curtailing his season just as the former England U21 international was closing in on a return in March.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of Ipswich, to be fair,” John-Jules told The Beautiful Game Podcast just ahead of the Exeter match which saw the Blues confirm promotion back to the Championship.

“As soon as I went to Ipswich, the love and support I got was great. The manager [Kieran McKenna], I have nothing but good things to say about him and I hope he has the same to say about me.

“I felt the love as soon as I went there. The manager showed nothing but faith in me on the pitch and off the pitch he’s such a nice guy, you can talk to him about anything. All the staff are like that and the fans are great as well, throughout the whole season.

“And my teammates are doing so well, I’m so happy to be watching them and being a part of the team. I’ve really enjoyed every minute of it.”

John-Jules, who joined his teammates for the post-match celebrations following the Exeter game despite having been back at Arsenal undergoing rehab, has a year left on his Gunners contract.

Having spent time on loan at Lincoln, Doncaster, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday before joining the Blues, he’s now looking for more stability.

“I just want to settle somewhere, whether that’s signing a new contract with Arsenal or going somewhere else on a permanent,” he said.

“I think it’s time to settle down and just focus and chill instead of hopping from loan to loan. It’s difficult and it’s draining travelling to all these places.

“Settling and focusing on one team would be ideal, whether that’s Arsenal or somewhere else.”

Speaking in February, McKenna said John-Jules had been missed while undergoing the rehab from his initial injury.

“I think anyone would miss him at this level,” he said. “I think he’s such a good player, has qualities that are hard to find, so any team would miss him. We’ve certainly missed him.

“The players have really missed him around the group, to be honest, which was maybe more of a surprise because when you have a player coming in from a big club, who has had four or five loan moves you never know how they’re going to settle into the group and how much they will feel at home and that you can make them feel at home.

“But I think he was incredibly settled here and was a really, really popular part of the group from the first week he was here.

“I think the players have really missed having him around, he’s a positive and likeable person and they’re looking forward to having him in the building.”

He's right - at 22, he needs to be making his mark somewhere & it probably won't be at Arsenal. He has ability, but not sure he's what Town need next season now that we have Broadhead.

Wallingford_Boy

That was in February after he'd been back at Arsenal for rehab.

Radlett blue:- agreed! We didn't see enough of him to really see what KM saw in him. Not sure he's what we want now.

Wallingford Boy:- the interview was before the Exeter game I guess they meant seeing him for the final home game !

If he is fit then for me it's a no brainer!
Perfect number 10 to compliment Broadhead and Chaplin.
Can see Mckenna signing him along with a quality number 9 and centre-half. Actually it would not surprise me to see us looking at two centre-forwards!
Exciting times for us fans!

I would sign him in an instant. The likelihood is that Aluko will be released, we need 4 number tens, play two assume one injured and Edwards is a different animal than a pure ten.
No disrespect to Marcus Harness but JJ has more long term potential, take him if his fitness is ok

It was a massive injury he sustained and would be a bit of a gamble to resign him especially now that we're in the championship. If sentiment came into it yes i would sign him straight away . Next season we should be looking at players at the next level we cannot afford to be carrying anybody. On the subject of injuries haven't heard anything on the progress of Camara lately if he's not fully involved in preseason training alarm bells will be ringing. 3 operations on the same injury is never good news.

There was a massive drop off when JJ was not available. It was working pretty well to switch between him and Ladapo. After JJ's injury, we looked a bit lacking in a plan B. Obviously, the January signings solved that problem, but I still see a place for JJ in the squad. It depends on the deal we would get and how much Arsenal would want for him. Probably not that much considering he only has a year left on his contract.

I'd rather have JJ than Harness. Harness looked good when he first arrived but hasn't progressed, if anything he's lost confidence.

Suspect we will be seeing him in the Championship next season - with us! 👍

Was a good interview, came across well and is seeing specialists to make changes to avoid injuries. I'd be more than happy to see him back because as long as he can stay injury free he's got premiership potential.

Totally baffling how anybody would hope he signed for us. He can't stay injury free.
He is yet to complete a full season.
22 and yet to be proven anywhere, because he struggles to keep fit.
He would be a huge risk…

Off topic, but we seem to be taking a long time to announce the retained/released list this year ?
On another note according to sun this weekend, we are supposedly interested in Blackpool striker Jerry Yates for around 2.5 Mill.

Other than his hamstring injury what other injuries has he had?

Anyone thinking we need no more than what we have now, in the Championship - could be in for a huge shock - as the step up will prove.
This Guy is the type we need to strengthen and go forward with - plus a few !!
It will be Tough, and we need to prepare well for lies ahead … !!

If The Boss and his team think his injury history does not preclude him then yes, this is exactly the sort of person we should be signing, comments about his attitude and popularity in the squad are significant.

Biggest bonus to signing TJJ is that he knows the system so if the medical teams says he is 100% and KmK and team want him, that enough for me.

Unlike most of the take in the mouth gag on it comments about JJ being the next neymar or we got to sign him B%%looks
He was injured most of the season and unless your KM or you got crystal balls nobody knows how good he us or could be! For me no way he is better than harness! Absolutely no way! Unless he is injury free and we see him more of him then nobody really knows apart from KM and remember town moved on since JJ's injury in October by signing broadhead!

In other words none of us supporters have seen enough of him to make a judgement

Agree we really missed him when he was injured.

I say another loan with a view to buy.

Great player, great potential - and if KMK sees it then I think it's fair to say, he knows what he's doing 😅

Fat_Boy_Tim added 22:36 - May 22
I'd say yes, great cover for 9 and 10 and good potential. We can't write a player off for after a couple of injuries. Broadhead was injured when we bought him!

Shame he got injured, as he showed some good early promise.

“I think anyone would miss him AT THIS LEVEL”. [My emphasis.]

He had a really nasty injury and it remains to be seen if he has recovered to where he was.

If he took him on a season long loan then by the end of it his Arsenal contract will have expired and he will be a free agent.
