Baggott Joins Blackpool On Loan
Monday, 5th Aug 2024 17:48

Blues centre-half Elkan Baggott has joined League One Blackpool on loan, TWTD having revealed that the Seasiders were targeting the Indonesia international ahead of the closure of last summer’s transfer window and again a month ago.

Baggott, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and the Pirates were among a number of other clubs keen to sign him ahead of 2024/25.

The Blues are able to cut the season-long deal short in January should they wish to.

“It’s a great feeling to finally be here and I’m excited to play my part in what will hopefully be a successful season for the club,” Baggott, whose switch was delayed by a minor knock, told the Blackpool official website.

“I’ve had some good conversations with the head coach [Neil Critchley] and sporting director [David Downes] over recent weeks.

“The way the team plays, the group that is already here – it’s all extremely positive. I know a number of other players who are here too and they’ve all had good things to say. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started!”

Baggott had previously had spells on loan at King’s Lynn Town, Gillingham, Cheltenham Town prior to his stint with Bristol Rovers.

The central defender, who is contracted to Town for a year with the club having an option for a further season, could make his debut for The Tangerines away at Crawley on Saturday afternoon.

Former Blues Lee Evans and Jordan Rhodes have already joined Blackpool this summer, the striker having spent last season on loan at Bloomfield Road, while Richard Keogh is a first-team coach.

I'm a bit disappointed for him tbh. I'd have thought he would have coped with a
Championship level, loan.

Really think he should have held out for a championship club, another season in league 1 isn’t progress.

Blackpool were just one win away from the playoffs last season & will be competitive again this time out, so this is a decent move for him. We also have the options of taking him back in January & sending him to a Championship club, if he has performed as well as we would expect him too.

This is not progress for him, every time he has played for us he has been outstanding, should be playing for a championship team, a decent one at that too!

Think he will do well there. Not sure he will ever make it here, so a good season could see him snapped up by a Championship side. That would give him a good career and living. Best of luck to the lad.

I agree with the club's assessment of the player he's not championship standard and really needs regular football and Blackpool are a very good club and should be challenging for promotion. I think last season by choosing not to go out on loan (his decision) his career stood still when eventually he went to Bristol Rovers he took time to find his feet. This season is a defining one for him and he needs to start producing. Let's hope he sets the world alight in league one and Blackpool get promoted.

Can't help he could be another Ndaba & El Mizouni. Loan after loan and then finally a permanent sale. Oh well

Would have been better at a championship club but that's my opinion... Good luck Elk

I think a lot of people overestimate how good our youngsters are. Elkan definitely has potential but he's never played a full season of football and only has 14 appearances in league one, the first few being so poor he got dropped from Bristol rovers so I doubt many championship clubs are queuing up to give him regular football. I think it's much more sensible to let him have a full season in league one rather than giving him to a championship team, getting to January and having to loan him back down to league one when he doesn't get any games. There's plenty of good premiership defenders that were playing in league one at his age. Good luck elkan, hope you get the experience you need and come back to us.

Good luck to him. I think this just about knocks on the head any idea that McK thinks he's good enough for Town. Always looked well up to it me, but what do I know. Sure he'll be sold on eventually.

Does anybody know whether Slicker and Humphries are young enough to not be counted as part if a 25 man squad? I think we have 22 already if they have to be counted - so could only sign 3 more players?

Kiffer1. Humphries doesnt have to be named, but slicker would have to be. But neither likely to be here anyway, as prob going out on loan.

Tellitasitiz. Why would szmodics be in Ashtons car? And why would they be on Felixstowe road? Very unlikely there's any truth in this.

He'll do a job at that level...he's got a good future in front of him.

Now can we sign some players please...been slow over the last fortnight.
