Phillips Set For Town Medical Thursday, 15th Aug 2024 10:49 Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set to undergo a medical at Town later today ahead of the completion of his season-long loan move to Portman Road.
Earlier this morning, news broke that the Blues were on the verge of signing the 28-year-old for 2024/25.
Terms regarding the move are now agreed with City paying a proportion of the England international’s wages while he’s with the Blues.
The deal is a major coup for the Blues, Phillips having been a regular for the Three Lions as recently as last year and overall having won 31 full caps, scoring once.
Phillips has, however, had a frustrating time since joining City for £45 million in the summer of 2022 from Leeds, making only two league starts and 14 sub appearances for the Premier League champions, then spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham where he started only three top flight matches in addition to playing five games from the bench.
The Blues also remain in the hunt for the loan signature of Napoli midfielder Jens Cajuste, who is understood to be travelling back to the UK, having returned to Italy after the breakdown of his switch to Brentford, to get the deal done.

Wow what a signing he could be! Not without risks, but if it works out could be mega for us and relaunch his career. Fingers crossed we can get it done today. I can't believe how excited I am for this season!! COYB

I like this. He'll get plenty of opportunity to prove to the world that he's still a good player.

tomitfc - think its normally by 3/5PM the day before the game, but as we are playing earlier, i would assume about midday tomorrow will be the cut off

What ambition from the club, absolutely stunned, I think Phillips will get his career back on track under Mckenna

This should silence the doubters and cynics. Assuming the medical is ok, this move speaks volumes about the club and its manager.

A high risk gamble, but, hopefully, that will be reflected in any loan fee and wages. The player certainly has enough incentive to make the deal work.

Given his time at West Ham last season and that he can't play vs Man City, I think they take this week to look at him, and start him against Fulham. Don't throw him in on Saturday, as if it doesn't go well and his confidence is fragile it could be a slow rebuild - we signed him for the season and not just for Saturday!

He should easily be registered in time for Sunday, but I would be surprised to see him feature given that he will have been in training for one session with the team. The team briefing is likely to be tomorrow, so he might not even have that much time on the grass. Can see him being unveiled but not named on the bench

Over the past few years he's proved to the world that he's not very good. A pointless signing for Man C, and one of the main reasons that England became unwatchable. There must have been a player in there once upon a time, but I'm struggling to remember when. Not a signing that I'd be happy with, but will happily put my faith in the powers that be and hope it pays off.

That video is an eye opener. His passing range if he can shake of rustiness is quite impressive. Will definitely bring a different dynamic to the team. Will also help us with quick counter attacks as these will probably be pivotal for this season.

We should run a book on who will get to 5, 10 and 15 yellow cards first, Morsy or Phillips. I do like having such a combative combination though.

My goodness what is wrong on here, gamble, not fit etc no confidence, all codswallop! He has been training day in and day out with Man City, one of the best clubs in the world, competing with the likes of Rodri for a starting place. An England International who would of been at Euros if had been getting regular football. Pep signed him and people moaning it's utter nonsense. 2 seasons ago we were in league 1! We have a great squad and Phillips will know Delap well. We need another striker now and I think Almiron from Newcastle or Armardo Broja from Chelsea be good and Jack Clarke for left wing and what a squad who will defonately compete in premiership. Portman Road will be a cauldron for away teams. Stop moaning people, we ate lucky to be in premiership let alone signing players like Kalvin Phillips.

Made his name with a promoted club (can't bring myself to type their name) and will be playing under KmK, boasting a track record of squeezing the very best out of players... has the potential to be an awesome signing! COYB.

Why give individual players titles like schemer, striker or wide man? We have players who can play different roles and adapt quickly. Under McKenna this is a unit, a flexible team where everyone can interchange and everyone can score and everyone can defend. Only as a team can we succeed. What we've seen since McKenna came is that we can make four subs at one time and there is no disruption, everything stays the same just with renewed energy.
