Legends Open New West Stand Lounges Wednesday, 2nd Oct 2024 14:55 Blues legends Matt Holland, Mick Stockwell and Simon Milton opened the new S&P and Level Head lounges in the West Stand ahead of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.
The lounges fill the space above the middle tier of the West Stand at the Sir Bobby Robson Stand end alongside the boxes which were installed in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The Level Head Lounge, which was opened by Holland, Stockwell, Milton and Olly Jackson from sponsor Greene King, features an area paying homage to former Blues striker Marcus Stewart, featuring famous moments from his time with the Blues.
QR codes within the lounge will allow fans to learn about and donate to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, the charity Stewart has supported since being diagnosed with the disease in 2022.
The S&P Lounge was also opened Holland, Stockwell and Simon Milton as well as Alex Finch of sponsors S&P.
Both lounges will soon be among the hospitality options available to book for matches with further information available here.

Tedray, behave..They were legends as far as I'm concerned. All players involved in promotion seasons, and what great times they were too. Milton goal V Tranmere is still one of the best hits/goals I've seen at PR.

Like the fact that the lounges were opened by ambassadors of the club, less so that they only carry a sponsors name, this would IMHO have been a great opportunity to use Muhren & Thijssen or even Marcus Stewart himself, and then a sponsors name. There are things we do brilliantly like Burleys bar, then miss obvious opportunities.

Bluemoss - I take your point but we cannot have everyone who laced a pair of boots to play for the town being accorded the honour of being a legend. I am 83 years and have thought of applying for qualification as I managed to walk quite comfortably up Cliff Lane (Hill) this morning.Ipswich is the town of my birth and I have featured Ray Crawford,Ted Phillips and of course Sir Alf in my book or love affair with the town of old....

Tedray, there are not many people that have done as much behind the scenes at Portman Road in recent years than Simon Milton, the guy, along with a few others who work tirelessly for the benefit of the club, is very much an unsung hero.

Tedray, Mick Stockwell made over 500 appearances for Ipswich. Please enlighten us regarding what makes a legend in your book?

Spirit of John It is not easy and of course no disrespect to anyone - they were all good players. However some had exceptional quality and the x factor. It was like years ago if one heard for instance that Beattie was out injured your Saturday afternoon would not be the same such was his brilliance.Anyway lets hope that some of the current crop can emulate our idols from yesteryear and all goes well this season. All Best

Am I the only one who cringes when I read stories like this? Unfortunately, this is what football is all about these days, money, money, money and everything corporate and for hospitality which is not aimed at your average football fan. I know we have to all move with the times and I know this is what football is all about now but, our 'beautiful game' is fast vanishing from the 'normal' person on the street.

Slade1 - no I don’t cringe reading stories like this. What is there is far better than a gap and corrugated tatty hoarding that fronted that part of the West Stand for 40 years. The commercialism aspect? No, I’m not a fan. don’t like the over loud PA, cardboard Premier League hoardings, shirts covered in sponsors, neon adverts etc etc. but it is what it is. We are back in the PL. if that means a sponsors lounges silly music etc, I’ll take that. Going to the last three games has been brilliant. Different level and despite the uncompetitive nature of the Premier League and the nonsense, I don’t want us to be anywhere else. Everything about the club is light years better than 4 years ago, even 20 years ago. I remember the Robson days, but I also remember the Duncan years of 9k supporters and there wasn’t too many more than that in Burley’s early years. Much of football these days isn’t great, but much of it is. Embrace the good bits is my motto. We are living in some incredible ITFC times that I never thought I’d see again and a whole younger generation is seeing for the first time. Embrace it, I say.
