Five Changes For Blues at Arsenal
Friday, 27th Dec 2024 19:17

Town boss Kieran McKenna has made five changes for this evening’s game at Arsenal with Luke Woolfenden, Ben Johnson, Jacob Greaves, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Delap coming into the team.

The Blues look set to switch to the system that saw them to a 2-1 win at Spurs on their last visit to North London with a back three of Dara O’Shea, who skippers the club for the first time, on the right with Woolfenden in the centre and Greaves on the left.

Ben Johnson and Leif Davis will be the wing-backs with Phillips joining Jens Cajuste in the centre of midfield with captain Sam Morsy suspended.

Omari Hutchinson, a former Gunners academy player, and Sammie Szmodics are the number 10s behind lone striker Delap, back after his one-match ban.

Harry Clarke, another one-time youth player with the North Londoners, Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin drop to the bench and Cameron Burgess is out of the 20-man squad.

For Arsenal, Declan Rice comes back into the team for Thomas Partey, while Leandro Trossard comes in for Bukayo Saka, who suffered a hamstring injury in the 5-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Arsenal: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Rice, Havertz, Odegaard (c), Martinelli, Trossard, Jesus. Subs: Neto, Zinchenko, Tierney, Kiwior, Calafiori, Jorginho, Partey, Merino, Nwaneri.

Ipswich: Muric, Johnson, O’Shea (c), Woolfenden, Greaves, Davis, Phillips, Cajuste, Hutchinson, Szmodics, Delap. Subs: Walton, H. Clarke, Townsend, Taylor, Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead, J Clarke, Al-Hamadi. Referee: Darren England (Doncaster). VAR: Alex Chilowicz.

Feel sorry for Burgess who has been superb for the last few games, in KM we trust that the new tactics and formation work! COYB

Back 5, about time. Woolfy a big surprise though, where's Burgess? Overall think we'll be much better set up like this.

Oh sh1t the undroppable Muric in goal yet again. What chance do we have? Even if we lose 10-0 tonight he will still be in goal against Chelsea.

BRING BACK WALTON! WE WANT WALTON!

It's the correct formation for the job in hand. Expect people on here to be wise after the event if we lose heavily and say we got it all wrong clever people them. All we can ask is the team put in a good performance if we lose so be it.

Burgess is poorly, aside Woofeden (I think and hope he okay) this is the exact team we should have moving forward with Burgess in for Woolfeden when back, Davis as a wing back will be great!

Got a good feeling about this team, hopefully Delap or Szmodicks play 90 mins and bring J Clarke on 8f either goes off.

Muric is brilliant on corners. Arsenal are brilliant at corners. No brainer.

Same approach as vs Spurs. Makes a load of sense.

Absolute sense to play Muric in this game, of all games.
If Phillips is fit & up for it, I think we could do ok against their midfield; surprised that neither Partey nor Merino is starting.

Who is the 3rd best goalkeeper in the PL for crosses ? Our own Muric.

BIG miss that Burgess is not playing...I can understand Johnson coming in for Clarke and that McK has reverted to a back 5 with the fore-mentioned unavailable, only thing else I would add I think Broadhead is bit unfortunate not to make a start. Best of luck!

Had Burgess played instead of Woolfenden i think we'd have got a point tonight. Why the hell he was dropped hod only knows and especially for a weaker player!
