Cunha Banned For Two Games and Fined For Town Melee
Tuesday, 31st Dec 2024 10:26

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has been banned for two matches and fined £80,000 following his role in the melee after Town’s 2-1 victory at Molineux earlier this month.

Cunha was pictured elbowing a member of the Town security staff in the back of the head and then removing his glasses and shoving him in the face in a fracas at the end of the match which also led to his teammate Rayan Aït-Nouri being shown a second yellow card and Liam Delap picking up his fifth booking of the season, which saw him miss the game against Newcastle.

The FA charged the Brazilian with misconduct and that he had acted in an improper manner, a charge he admitted with an independent regulatory commission imposing the two-game ban, which will see him miss the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest and FA Cup tie with Bristol City. Written reasons are set to be published in due course.

Pathetic. Let him play for ages winning them points, then a two game ban once he get's a knock.

Should have been a 6 game ban for violent conduct. He is injured now any way.

Absolutely f***king disgraceful. Two game ban and one of them is the cup game! Are you kidding me? He's ended with effectively a one match ban which is the same as Delap! This is what we're up against as a newly promoted side.

That decision is an absolute joke by the FA,if it's at all possible our club should challenge and appeal this decision!!

Why is one of the suspensions for a cup tie which is a different competition.....surely his suspension should be for (at least) two league matches?????

This sanction is too light and too late. Any supporter, at any ground in the country, launching a similar assault on a steward could expect a lifetime stadium ban at the very least; and possibly criminal charges. Not a good look for the FA.

Absolutely bloody joke you bloody PL shysters. No doubt these 2 games coincide with their 2 easiest games. Bunch of c***

Duran given immediate 3 match ban and this thug gets a belated slap on the wrist.

I think this stinks and FA are spineless cowards....rotten to the core.
I think we should stand against this decision!
On a brighter note, proud as ever of our club....win or lose, we do it with grace and dignity.

Unbelievable. That's violent conduct and should have triggered a 3 match ban minimum, probably 4 as it was a member of staff and he had two goes at him. The FA are useless.

If this had happened in a semi-pro game, the ban would have been far longer. Yet in the PL where players are supposed to set an example, only two games. Yet in the same breath, the FA complains about poor discipline in the non-league arena. Beyond pathetic.

Farce. Should have been suspended immediately. If he now misses games whilst injured or when sold if would make a completely mockery of the whole situation and mean he (and Wolves) have got off Scott free. The PL has effectively condoned his actions. £80k fine is hardly painful for him.

Those who may think that this is a genuine oversight by the FA have been living in a dark and isolated closet.
Judging by the comments on here, I don’t think anyone has been.

This is disgraceful. I still think that the security guard who was assaulted by this petulant child should have made an official complaint to the Police, who upon receiving such a complaint would be obliged to take the necessary action.
The FA would be sidelined by a Police investigation, after all, the they are clearly incapable of conducting a proper and fair enquiry themselves.

As said above, automatic 3 game ban for red card violent conduct in game. So this, afterwards and on a security guy who is just going about his day, is less serious? Jog on FA. Clearly got at by Wolves owners who probably want him sold for big bucks soon, without a suspension hanging over him.

He could have been arrested for that assault (it's happened before in football matches)and all he gets is 2 match ban.!Wolves have just got away with it- and it's an injustice to us.

What a joke. FA are just a laughing stock at the minute. 2 game ban only while also pocketing 80 grand?

Wouldn't surprise me if they negotiated with Wolves and offered them a 5 match ban with 25k fine, OR, offer 80grand and only a 2 match fine. Not stating that as fact, but it just wouldn't surprise me the FA trying to make some dollar out of this.

Total embarrassment.

Absolute disgrace. That sends out no message at all regarding such disgusting behaviour. The FA will never stamp out such behaviour with such unbelievably weak punishment. Cunha is laughing and so are Wolves.

The f.a are a complete joke.two game ban and a fine of 80'000'equivalent to 5 pence for a Joe bloggs.5 match ban should be minimum

Disgusting. Mitrovic got 8 games for touching a referee and this tw&t gets 2 games for assaulting an ITFC official of which 1 is a cup game and the other he may miss through injury anyway, in the mean time he has almost single handedly got them 7 points from 3 games while the F(ark) A(ll) dithered yet Delap got 1 game for the yellow in the same affray..... This MUST be challenged by Town as it's blatant corruption by the Premier League against promoted teams AGAIN.....

As a minimum, the FA should pass on the £80k to the guy he attacked, then Cunha triple that from his own pocket. If that had been on the street, he'd be compensated & sued. Hopefully the security guard can & will sue.
Fines should go to the people wronged not the lazy fat cats that run a pathetic organisation with little guts to do what's morally right for the sport & not their own interests.
Joke organisation.

The Club MUST push back on this. We are being mistreated here and his behaviour to a non-playing/coaching member of staff is (legally speaking) assault. We should threaten legal action if they do not act properly !

I wonder what would have happened if it was Morsy doing the same thing to one of their staff ?
I'll tell you, they would have thrown the book at him !

This situation is utterly deplorable. The FA's actions are not only deeply disappointing but also set a dangerous precedent. First, they allowed this individual to have a significant and potentially game-altering impact on the relegation battle, an issue that could determine the futures of clubs and players alike. Now, they have compounded the matter by trivialising a serious incident—an assault on a staff member of the opposing team—with a punishment that can only be described as weak and ineffectual.

Such leniency sends the wrong message about accountability and sportsmanship, undermining the integrity of the game. This is not just a failure of governance but a betrayal of the values the sport is meant to uphold.

Stronger action must be taken to ensure fairness and uphold the dignity of all involved in the game. The FA must do better.

Gforce added 14:23 - Dec 31
Regarding Delaps yellow card in the same game, just imagine if that had been Salah or Haaland there would have been complete uproar by their management and it would have been all over Sky sports etc
As it was just Ipswich,no more is said about it.

They don't even bother to hide their incompetent bias anymore.
Is there anyone not financially benefiting from association with the FA that doesn't think they're a sick joke & unfit for purpose?
