Chaplin Out, Hirst and Tuanzebe Still at Least a Fortnight From a Return Friday, 3rd Jan 2025 14:49 Town will be without Conor Chaplin at Fulham on Sunday, the forward having picked up a knee problem, while George Hirst and Axel Tuanzebe are still at least a couple of weeks away from a return to action.
Asked about injuries ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage on Sunday, manager Kieran McKenna revealed Chaplin had picked up a knock which is still being looked at.
“Conor Chaplin's going to be out for a couple of weeks,” he said. “He's picked up a knock on his knee, so that's going to rule him out for a couple of weeks. We're still sort of assessing it exactly.
“And we have a few little issues after the Chelsea game, to be honest, that we're still assessing going into this game, so we're going to see over the next 24 hours.”
Hirst has been out since the Tottenham game at the start of November with a knee injury and Tuanzebe since the trip to Nottingham Forest later the same month due to a hamstring problem.
The striker is ahead of the defender but with both still a little way off a return, McKenna says.
“It’s still at least another couple of weeks,” he added. “I think George is in the really early stages of being out on the grass with the fitness coaches. Both still at least a couple of weeks away.”

I'm very suspicious, sorry, could this be to give him time to find a new club.

No, ipswichdave. It's because he's picked up a knee injury in training. Hope that helps.

By the looks of the body language and how involved he is on the bench, I think Chaplin may already be in line for some coaching role at the club, so I doubt he's going anywhere.

I think maybe last we have seen of Chaplin in a Town shirt, or it would be nice if Mckenna gave Burns, Chaplin, Al-Hamdi etc a farewell game in cup next week at home. COYB

Why on earth would Chappers and Burns have played their last games in a Town shirt?

What on earth are people on about?...

Absolute daft comments on here. Chaplin bleeds blue and has been very involved recently. He may not always be first choice but has shown how good he can be at this level. I'm sure this is genuine. What is a little odd is the we never normally talk about injuries until after they have missed a game to keep the oppo guessing. Can't wait fot Sunday

Time will tell om who comes in and who goes but they can't all stay, so who is going in people's opinions?
Leejames99 added 16:57 - Jan 3
Mck just said people will be leaving and wants to bring in 5 so Ogbebe I presume is out for season so will come out of squad but who are the other 4 then, I think it be Burns, Chaplin, Al-Hamedi and Broadhead as we can get fees for them, I understand they are fan favourites but if its not them them who, H Clarke, Woolfeden? Has to be some of them it won't be new signings so ....

Some people on here are getting over excited. Chappers and Burns are going nowhere.
Leejames99 added 17:08 - Jan 3
Everyone saying Burns and "Chappers" like you know him are going nowhere, well who is then and if they were doing well Kmck wouldn't be worried about their positions, we can only have 25 so who goes? Yes they fan favourites but Burns especially not Prem player in my opinion, no time for sentiment it's football! So who do people think goes then, instead marking down an opinion, give an opinion on who you believe will go, that's what forum for to debate and talk about our team with logic and passion and we won't all agree and that's fine. We all want Town to continue to grow and progress.

Yet Another injury sustained in training by a player ….. high intensity and all that ….

Sorry but Burns, Broady or Chappers wont be on their way out they love the club too much and have really shone no matter which of the 3 leagues we have played in recently. A RB and another number 9 are probably top of the want list. IF the rumours are true about McKenna wanting 5 signings this window that also depends on how many are of the age that need to be registered to the 25. You can imagine that Ogbene will be taken off the list with his injury (even if he is back quicker gives him time to work fitness for next season) and then maybe another right sided attacking midfielder as backup/rotate Omari?. If we get another RB and number 9 in can see Clarke going out on loan and Al Hamadi possibly either on loan or sold (these two are just guesses)

Sarah loves Liverpool, Rasford loves Man Utd, Rooney loved Everton, Kate loved Spurs etc the list is endless. Players move on always have and always will, just like relationships things end and Mckenna has spoke highly of Broadhead who fits mould and is an international with Prem experience and only 26 so he is not going (although I do see him going to Wrexham at some point in his career.) Morsy won't be going so players do have to go. Fans on here talk like they friends with the players calling them Chappers and Broady etc I'm afraid some will have to go and Burns and Chaplin are defo on my shortlist, Chaplin be good signing for Sunderland but I think maybe he might go Boro as part Latte deal. N9body saying who they think will go or which teams you think be relegated at present. In Mckenna and Ashton we trust.

I think hirst is a brilliant forward but man!!! He is always injured! Hope he aintba sicknote
Leejames99 added 19:20 - Jan 3
@churchmans it's ridiculous, I'm sure some fans on here would rather we still in league 1 with same team. Imagine if fans acted like that when Wark (or Warky to me) or Richard Wright, Ambrose, Bent, Holland all left, its pathetic, yes Chaplin and Burns done well but it be good for them and their careers to move on and I for one will not be surprised when they do and new heroes are made, we now have Delapy, Hutchinson, Phillips, Cajustey, Greavesy, O'Sheay and Muricy, a new Clarkey, Ogebeney and Smozey lol ridiculous

OK Lee James, I’ll bite. ‘Some fans on here’ appreciate that this isn’t Football Manager or FIFA. Yes, of course, the club will upgrade each position. But when Wes Burns has just showed he’s the best RWB at the club as part of a 2-0 win over a billion pound team, why would he be moved on? When Chaplin’s made some excellent contributions this season, is vice captain, and a key member of the dressing room, why would he be moved on? There is so, so much more to a squad than just squeezing the best players in there. Who do I think will move on? Luongo will be de-registered, as will Ogbene. Potentially a loan for Harry Clarke. I’d move Jack Clarke back on loan to Sunderland if possible. AAH loan. But the idea of moving on players who’ve started numerous games this season is nuts.
Leejames99 added 13:03 - Jan 4
@gsoly Wes Burns dear lord, we can't just loan them all out as they would all come trundling back, I respect your opinion but just because Chaplin and Burns played a few doesn't mean they won't go and the last time we needed a vice captain it was O'Shea. Selling Chaplin would be good business and why would we give Sunderland millions and give him out player to help them get promotion. Its not me playing Fifa.
Motown added 18:54 - Jan 4
@gsoly - I agree completely. There is no way Chaplin or Burns are leaving. J Clarke, Al Hamadi, Luongo, possibly H Clarke/Johnson out on loan to free up squad space. No point selling anyone till end of season when we can take a pragmatic look at where we are.
Monkey_Blue added 21:16 - Jan 4
There is no doubt that if we bring in another couple of senior players a couple of the current squad will have to go out the door but I don’t see Chaplin and Burns as likely candidates. Al Hamadi might go out on loan and assuming we de-register ogbene it means we perhaps only need see one other sold or loaned out.
