Carrick: Edmundson's Done Fantastically Well Friday, 17th Jan 2025 12:06 Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick says on-loan Blues defender George Edmundson, who the Teessiders are trying to sign on a permanent basis this month, has done fantastically well during his spell at the Riverside.
Edmundson, 27, whose Town contract is up in the summer, joined Boro in August and has impressed, with a number of Championship clubs understood to have taken note of his performances.
However, the former Oldham and Rangers man can’t play for a third team this season under FIFA rules, having featured briefly for the Blues against Manchester City, and the Teessiders are trying to steal a march on other interested sides by signing him on a permanent basis now rather than waiting until the summer.
As TWTD revealed earlier in the week, Town have rebuffed an offer of £350,000 now and a further £350,000 if Boro are promoted plus further add-ons, but talks between the clubs continue.
“George has done really well. We brought him in on loan. It was one of those where it fitted all parties,” Carrick said.
“I've said it a number of times, it's not always simple, there's a lot of parties involved. Sometimes you go in and you know exactly what you're getting out, sometimes it's a little bit in the balance.
“George has done fantastically well for us. He's settled in really well. We're really happy with him. I think it's getting the balance right as well, in terms of recruitment and the dynamics of the squad. That's really important.
“Spread of age is one thing, types of experience is something else as well. It's a different thing. It's not always an age thing, it depends what you've gone through and the types of experiences you'd had. We're conscious of that to try and get the balance right moving forward.”

Well done Fridge. We should let him go with our thanks for what he did for us, looks like he's enjoying his football.

Totally agree Rimsy. I think George was really unlucky to be put out on loan and I truly hope that we are not arguing over hundreds of thousands. Do the right thing Mr Ashton and just give him the free that he deserves. George has been a complete stalwart for us and he should be properly thanked. I seem to remember that he was brought back into the team last year for the Hull home game, in order to do a job on one of their forwards, which he did rather well. Thank you George and the very best of luck!

Serious foul play: “A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play." “Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.”

re Fridge, I know he's had a few injuries, but he seems to be back to full fitness now. Is Greaves really that much of an upgrade? I'm not saying he was totally at fault for the first goal last night, there were errors all over the shop, but he was caught out of position - and the error v Villa was criminal.

d77sgw, well it's opinion but I think Greaves is a fabulous talent and I wasnt the least surprised George was moved on. The reality is the quality in the PL is miles ahead of Championship and let's not forget Wolfy, Axel and Cam were all ahead of him even in those leagues. With respect, he would have been exposed more in the PL. One of the things thats beginning to really frustrate me lately is the theme of championing some of of our promotion players as better than their replacements, despite the challenges being higher. As far as Boro are concerned, don't be surprised if we use George as a make weight for the fee that brings their CF here....

Fridge would be a long way down the pecking order here. He appears to be happy at Boro. His contract is up in June. What is the hold up ? Let him go and move on.
