Town Agree Fee For West Brom Keeper
Monday, 3rd Feb 2025 11:32

Town are closing in on the signing of West Brom keeper Alex Palmer.

A £2 million fee has been agreed between the clubs with Palmer travelling to Suffolk to undergo a medical this afternoon.

The Blues’ goalkeeper situation has been unsettled all season with summer signing Aro Muric putting in inconsistent displays and making way for Christian Walton before Christmas, the former Brighton man then suffering a groin injury at Liverpool just over a week ago.

Kosovo international Muric, who cost the Blues £10 million from Burnley, returned on Saturday but made crucial errors as Town were beaten 2-1 by bottom side Southampton.

Kidderminster-born Palmer, 28, came through the Baggies youth system and has spent time on loan at his hometown club, Oldham, Notts County, Plymouth, Lincoln and Luton.

For Albion, the 6ft 3in tall glovesman has made 104 starts, although none of those in the Premier League, while he won caps with the England U16s as a youngster.

Palmer, who had 18 months on his contract at the Hawthorns, hasn’t played for the Baggies in the FA Cup this season, so assuming all goes well with the medical could make his debut at Coventry on Saturday.

You are so right, what's the point of being a Town supporter, rubbish signings, terrible coach, relegation bound, all assets and club sold and Owners walk away, back to league 1 we go with Dad's Army, no need for new signings, we got Morsy, Luongo, Walton, Chaplin, Hamadi, let's just pretend this all never happened and we be back playing Port Vale before we know it!
I think it's your head needs a wobble, I hope ypu understand sarcasm

Just to balance things up, Clarke was the best player at Dunderland, Greaves the best player at Hull. It may upset the fans of the club that he's departing, but it doesn't mean he'll be a success. And let's be honest, for this season the horse has already long bolted !

The Southampton game was a fantastic opportunity for Muric to redeem himself.
Unfortunately he failed miserably, letting in two easy goals, for someone supposedly great at shot stopping.

I didn’t watch him at Burnley, but they say it was the same there.
Enough is enough, and Kieran has finally realized it, though it maybe too late to avoid relegation.

He is not the only one struggling in this team but his errors are glaring and frequent so now outweigh some of the excellent saves he has made.
He is young , good shot stopper, usually, and can command his box but I agree with comments that he does not seem to communicate or engage with his team mates.
He could become very good but it will take longer than half a season.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you think a Club would pay to buy him off us?

@leejames you're a complete hypocrite !! First you right a post about being kind and being aware of how criticism can hurt and then later you call out Blueboy because his view doesn't align with yours. How about you and others stop calling out Blueboy and actually just make your point without name calling. What are you like 9 or something ?

Great to see the club are not messing around. Bring in a solid proven keeper who can do a job for us this season and next. McKenna has been more than stuck behind Muric this season, and left it late to swap to Walton. Palmer might not get the No.1 jersey right away, but if Mckenna sees what we see, he'll want to give us the best chance of getting results the rest of the season. He tempered his response in the post match, but McKenna was angry...very angry. He played on the front foot, went back to a back four, and had the dominant team in the game. He knows we should have won that game, and he'll be mad we didn't. He also has enough belief in himself and the team, that we can go and get wins elsewhere. The rest of this month against Villa, Spurs and Man Utd is a great opportunity to do so.

@stato what names did I call?
Then you say what are you 9 or something, so in fact your the hypecrite of your own post. I called out Blueboy because i genuinely dont think he is an Ipswich fan and I think even the biggest moaners on here don't portray the doom they do.
Oh and it's write not right you spelt it like a 9 year old might!
Your welcome

McKenna: "Tony, how much for Palmer?"
Mogga: "£2 mill".
McKenna: "What if we throw a Muric swap in to sweeten the deal?".
Mogga: ""10 mill".

I have come to the conclusion that there are many on here, not all, who sit behind the anonymity of their keyboard with the sole intention of delving into the world of hate speak. Muric has made many mistakes and Town had to act with Walton out but Muric he is a human being and should treated with respect. I have managed thousands of staff in my time and you don’t make someone better by kicking them.

Everyone missing the point...we need 3 goalkeepers..Walton out for some weeks with injury..so we needed another keeper ...not necessarily to replace Muric ....Slicker deserves his chance sometime..FA Cup presents a chance for him possibly.

Panic buy...if Walton is injured then play Slicker till Walton comes back..

This is not a good signing, much prefer Muric think he’s a top keeper and is getting an awful amount of abuse for good performances

What does Slicker have to do to get a game???!!

Feel sorry for the lad. He must be questioning why he came here?

I believe Luton tried to sign him last season, at the time they showed interest in Walton

Desperately needed. He’s always looked good for WBA and he’ll be better than Muric.

Westy added 15:45 - Feb 3
Please let it happen. If we persevere with Muric, we will get relegated. With another keeper we wll at least have a chance.

See tim sherwood feels ipswich will not sign another player as no one will want to come here as we are certanties for the drop ,love him to get it wrong the smug git

Gazelle added 16:04 - Feb 3
The trouble is when a keeper makes a mistake his team suffer but several of the team made more mistakes than Muric on Saturday.
We’ve got to have three keepers, what if one of the two is injured or unwell on the day of a game.

why am I getting maked down for saying what everyone is thinking muric is crap simple as and we wasted nearly 10 million on someone who can't catch a cold

DannyITFC added 16:18 - Feb 3
Can Muric go to WBA as part of the deal please!
3

Bert added 16:39 - Feb 3
Baggies forum posters saying it’s £5m, way too cheap and disappointed he is going. If TWTD have the fee right then it would appear we are getting WBA’s no 1 keeper for a very modest sum.
