Crowdfunder For Blues Legend Stewart
Wednesday, 5th Feb 2025 14:26

Town and the Former Players Association have set up a Crowdfunder to help Blues legend Marcus Stewart, who is living with MND, make renovations to his new house.

Stewart, 52, who scored on his Blues debut in a 2-0 victory at Barnsley 25 years ago today, was diagnosed with MND in January 2022.

The former striker will soon be moving into a bungalow which needs to be adapted with hoists, a hospital bed, ramps, wheelchair access and rails around the house, as well as other renovations and significant carer costs.

Stewart, who also represented Bristol Rovers, Huddersfield, Sunderland, Bristol City, Yeovil and Exeter, is now unable to sign memorabilia, however, Barry from Barr Personnel has donated a signed and framed replica shirt from a number of years ago in order to help raise funds.

To stand a chance of winning the shirt, purchase as many tickets as you want from the Crowdfunder page, which can be found here, before the deadline of 14th February at 7pm. The winner will be chosen at random from all eligible entries.

A free to enter option is available by sending your name, the prize draw name and confirmation of acceptance of the prize draw terms and conditions to: Ipswich Town Foundation, Portman Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 2DA.

Stewart was among the scorers as George Burley's team beat Barnsley 4-2 at Wembley to win promotion via the play-offs in May 2000 and then went on to finish fifth in the Premier League and return to Europe the following season, the striker netted 21 times in all competitions during that campaign.

In March, Stewart and ex-Liverpool and Bradford City full-back Stephen Darby are staging March of the Day 2, a walk between Wembley Stadium and Portman Road to raise money for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

Horrible but necessary decisions to be made here. I had a friend who had to do the same to her house with an MND diagnosis years ago. It's like grieving before you have to. Really feel for Marcus and his family. Sending much love, and, of course, a donation.

The team at the supporters club have already raised around £11000 for the Darby Rimmer Charity this season, this announcement will help us define the next tranche from future events. We will keep going
MND is a cruel disease and last weeks article highlighting Marcus' 2% use of his left arm shows how debilitating and how fast the disease can spread

YouTube link might not have worked, it was for Marcus Stewart's goal against Liverpool as mentioned above by timbousa. What a goal!
If you search on YouTube for:
"A great goal from a great player. Marcus Stewart brilliance at Anfield back in 2000."
And you will be able to relive some Marcus magic.

This is such a sad story. The top English scorer in the premier league in that epic season! And to think Rashford is on 325k a week. 25 years ago now and how the game has changed. So much more money, money has changed it and not so much for the good, it’s changed so much, can’t believe some person commented on here that KM should be achieving similar to what Burley achieved in that historic period, promoted side finishing 5th that will never happen again! Marcus Stewart was pivotal in that success. Top man top footballer and I hope the required amount is at least the amount achieved!!

@ those above.
I was at Anfield that day. It was an unbelievable goal. It was not easy to view from near ground level at the opposite end, but in my mind I can still see him waltzing through! For a split second I don't think any of us thought he'd actually scored, it was too surreal. Anfield was stunned. Shall never forget that one.
My aunt was diagnosed MND and was gone within a few years. Horrible, just horrible.
I hope Marcus will get the best care that is available.

So sad to see Marcus like this.
Such a nice guy and what a player too.
MND is absolutely horrific. I hope he gets all the support and help he needs.

Keep fighting Marcus. x
