Promoted Pair Linked With Hirst Wednesday, 23rd Apr 2025 12:49 Town are reportedly looking to tie striker George Hirst down to a new deal with newly promoted Leeds and Burnley claimed to be showing interest in the Scotland international.
Hirst is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2027, so there seems little need for panic regarding losing the 26-year-old in the close season.
However, according to Football Insider, the Whites and Clarets are both keen and Town will look to offer new terms in order to ward off any interest.
Hirst joined the club on a permanent basis in the summer of 2023 from Leicester following a successful loan spell in the second half of the previous season.
The Sheffield-born striker has scored four goals in five starts and 19 sub appearances this season.

@sandman180 Yeah I do watch football do you? You joking - Callum Wilson scored 48 goals and 9 assists in 4 seasons and only hasn't played because of Isak, still number 2 at Newcastle, I'd certainly have a few quid on him scoring on Sat. Ings is a journeyman but he is still a very experienced Prem striker with 72 goals in 206 Prem games, I was merely saying that as a sub, like Moore could be handy off bench and is on a free. As for Scarlett he has scored 5 goals in 27 this season most off bench. He only made 12 appearences for Town before Spurs recalled him and has played in 6 in Prem for Tottenham since Jan and is one of the hottest prospects in the country and an England under 21. Liam Delap only scored 25 in 105 games 12 for Town So prior to here just 13 goals in 3 seasons. If I'd said to you last season let's sign Delap you would say no thanks. I would take Scarlett and Wilson anyday of the week, another hot prospect striker. I've 2 questions Firstly we know Mckenna doesn't play 4-4-2, we know Hirst goal tally is poor so where in the Town team starting 11 would you play him? And instead of who? I presume Delap so you would be happy with George Hirst as our main striker going forward in Championship and back into the Prem? The other thing is, let's say Hirst and Delap do go, you turned your nose up at my suggestions so we need 2 strikers, who would you suggest that fits the mould, good pedigree and knows where the net is?

Leeds still owe £140m in transfer fees so maybe not as flush as all that

Must be 15 million upwards - in Mark Ashton we must now trust - remember Adam Webster and Ipswich Town and the Bristol City fiasco - no more selling for peanuts

George Hirst I’d our best all round striker. If we let him leave then Ashton has lost his marbles. And as for £5m … HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

@blues1 thats exactly what I have been saying about Hirst and he has even said similar himself. He likes to run at the defence to open them up and then let the number 10 or the wingers get in for the goal. It can be a good quality to have as then the opposition are less likely to know where the goal threats are going to come from And like you say this has been evident in the past few seasons when the likes of Chappers, Broady, Burns, Omari have been the ones getting the goals not just the number 9. As good as Delap has been he offers something different from Hirst although Delap is a unit and if he played similar to the past seasons styles I think defences would be terrified seeing him run at them (kind of reminds me of Kuqi a bit)

Marcelo Bielsa the then Leeds manager sold Davis because he could Not guarantee him game time and did not want to stifle his progress not because he wasn’t good enough.I know this for a fact as my brother is a long standing season ticket holder at Leeds.Far too much guess work from some on hear.

I'd be happy to keep Hirst it's not like he did anything bad this season like Davis, unfortunately we don't need left wing we need left back and Townsend much better. I just watched Hirst highlights and see what people mean his link up with Szmodics is good. Well considering we have goals from everywhere in attack then perhaps it would be better to play Hirst and Szmodics and without injuries see how Hirst does he is only 26 after all,I'd still like to someone like Scarlett come in for maybe 10 mill. He is a unit and with the attacking options we have he could be epic, highly rated at Spurs, I don't see many better who fits the mould. When you look at a potential starting line up taking out Delap it's still will scare life out of opposition before we signed anyone. And hoping we take up option on Cajuste and the project can be sold to him, he seems to love it here. Palmer/Muric Tunazabe O'Shea Greaves Townsend Cajuste Humphries Szmodics J Clarke Hutchinson Hirst Squad Palmer/Muric H Clarke Johnson Woolfenden Boniface J Taylor Morsy Broadhead Chaplin Phillogene Ogbene New Striker New CM Slicker Yeah we in good shape before any signings

This must be agent talk. Absolutely no way these two clubs come in for Hirst. Hasnt proved as championship striker let alone prem striker. Hardly really played for us this season. Only has a couple of good moments this year. They will be aiming much higher.

Davis was disappointing, Townsend more reassuring. We need to gain some bulk throughout the team, fortunately that's just a matter of food, weights and time. I am already excited about next season.

I don’t blame him if he wants to Go…. But I think he will be first choice next season here. Also Lee James on cajuste signing for us your having a bubble , he literally only came to us because he was semi injured or he would have signed for Brentford. We have no hope keeping him , he is easily a mid prem level player. And for you saying sign dcl from Everton … you’ll see him play 5 games in a season bloke has glass legs . We need physical st so Callum Wilson is not the player either he is injury prone …. You literally speak like you are playing fifa…. And for people saying delap will stay , understand he will leave . If a prem team comes in for him he’s gone, especially teams like Chelsea Forrest etc who have Europe football. Why play at stoke on a Tuesday night when you could play in Rome etc …. Take off these Ipswich tinted glasses your all wearing and understand football

@bluelad7 I think he stays also, I cannot see in any world that a club favourite for relegation this season would put a relegation clause in for the same season and on a 5 year deal and I also can't see Man City agreeing to a 30 mill release clause, if it is they are definately taking up their option. It's all paper talk, 12 goals is not a huge amount for a top Prem team, he seems to be happy here with his mates. Ashton said we are really well covered, I genuinely think his release clause will be next season it has to be, your not going to give a 5 year deal to a player and put a release clause in for a player who had the stats he did. If I'm right he might still go but it will be for alot more than 30 mill he is our assett. If Mckenna and Ashton gave a untested, average stat player a relegation clause, a player who never had look in in the Prem prior (on sub) and has been average at Hull, Stoke and Preston then board should tell them both to go, it's not happened. If Delap goes it will be for 40 -50 mill and I'd bite their hand off, like all of them they were sold on the long term project, his Dad turned down Sir Alex. Adebayo scored 10 for Luton in Prem, he still at Luton. All strikers from lower down league get touted as going. Liam Delap did not sign a 5 year deal to be going if we were relegated none of them did, we were nailed on favourites to go down. I think he stays, they all will, actually don't think many go, few fan faves

@benslifeyts Very confident post - We have an option to buy Cajuste in the deal, we already paid 1.5 mill, he may not want to jump all round UK. You talk like Ashton is totally clueless with contracts. Delap is an Ipswich Town player on a 5 year deal, he can't just go wherever he likes, it will be on Town terms, this release clause for 30 mill will be nonsense. So you think our very own injury prone Hirst is the answer and better than Calvert Lewin and Callum Wilson. Callum Wilson who was at the World Cup etc So who do you suggest we sign in all your wisdom? I think your the one that needs to understand football, it's a business and there is contracts ask Kane how he got on demanding to leave. He won't go to Chelsea wouldn't play they just want to sign everybody, Forest no way, he is a Derby lad. It's not as cut and dry as players sign get relegated and go, footie be a right mess if it was

Lightningboy: 100% agree…. I just hope being benched for most of the season by McKenna hasn’t peed off these three players so much that they are looking to go elsewhere ( which I wouldnt blame them for doing so one bit)!

Troy parrot is someone I like . Better than Dane Scarlett who has been terrible everywhere he’s been . Dominic can’t play more than 15 games a season Lewin . And Callum Wilson who’s 33 going 34 next season .whos played a MASSIVE 13 games scored 0. Need to give your head a wobble . If teams meet delaps clause there is nothing town can do, he’s gone. Jens is going in summer he’s so clear of anyone in our squad . We could only sign him perm if we stayed in the prem …. Again take off your Ipswich tinted glasses

Is it kids club hour? @Benlifeyts @oioihardy Need to get your Panini sticker book out. Dane Scarlett has only just turned 21 he hasn't been anywhere of substance yet, and he gets a game for Tottenham, would Hirst? Calvert Lewin been injured and? That's part of football. Yes your right Callum Wilson far too old isn't he - Danny Wellbeck -34 Chris Wood - 33 Harry Kane 31 Antonio - 34 Mo Salah - 30 He is still 2nd striker to Isak and this season did have an injury. You also have no knowledge of contracts, The Sun isn't the teenagers guide to football. If there is a 30 mill release clause which is highly unlikely but for you we will say there, first of if Man City want to buy him back they can. So if Delap is going to be the next Harry Kane do you think City will let him go to a rival 26k in total 20 from us and 6k sell on from 30k. Never going to happen. Wait until the club update. He is on a five year contract that is why there are contracts. Cajuste we had OBLIGATION to buy him for 12 mill if in Prem that means have too but we also have in the contract an OPTION to buy him signed by the player, Napoli in Town according to Fabrazio Romano who isn't usually wrong. Troy Parrott is also good would be another good option as knows club and plays for ROI with half the team. Before rude posts at least back up what your saying the fact is nobody knows what's in the contracts, the daily mirror certainly doesn't. It's all clickbait

@oioihardy You made a friend look. So you don't want a striker over 30, but you don't want a young player like Delap, cripes such a shame Salah signed new deal, so you just want Hirst and Chappers with Al Hamadi and mid table Championship or a Luton. So got to take off Blue tinted glasses so who do you suggest to replace Delap
Leejames99 added 23:52 - Apr 23
@Carberry I know what a release clause is, firstly I'd be gobsmacked if they signed Liam Delap, unproven on a 5 year deal, knowing that relegation was all but certain and worse that it was in there for 30 mill, its all speculation and if it is the case Man City will buy him back. I just do not think Man City or Town would be that stupid. That's shocking business the yo yo clubs would never progress and the top clubs wouldn't need scouts, get promoted by the best young talent, parade them for a season on top wages, get relegated and a too team whips them away. Surely the idea is to buy players for the future of Ipswich Toen, he may have a release clause but I think it will be for next summer, if we thought and Man City thought he was getting a big move and tipped for England etc Man City would of just loaned him to us. Liam Delap wasn't really a marquee signing and he gets loads growing to do be for he is elite. My point is do we really Ashton allowed a release clause if relegated knowing it was probable and only 30 mill so we pay 20 get that back plus 4 mill and Man City only get 26 mill for an academy player they nutured, I just can't see it, I do think he may go still but I don't think it will be 30 million but we see its all speculation, I'd grab the money and take the risk on another young player but I don't think he will even want to go yet and he doesn't have too, a season isn't even a year, igenuinely think he bevat Town until next window at least.
