Tuanzebe Out of DR Congo Squad
Friday, 6th Jun 2025 20:20

Blues defender Axel Tuanzebe has left DR Congo’s training camp in Orleans, France due to injury.

The 27-year-old, who has previously won three caps, missed last night’s 1-0 friendly victory over Mali having not been named among the subs.

Now, the DR Congo FA has announced the former Manchester United man’s departure due to injury ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Madagascar.

Tuanzebe, who remains in talks with the Blues regarding a new contract, had a spell out with a hamstring issue in March before returning but was rested in a couple of games in the latter stages of the campaign with boss Kieran McKenna having said the problem was being managed following a busy spell of fixtures.

Hopefully he can now focus on signing that new contract.

Must be a big question regarding his fitness. He is 27 and gas yet to play 100 games. Is it a risk signing him. The Town need a fit squad most of the time and not the excuse 'protecting' him !!!

Pity - must be frustrating to make the journey but not to play.

Agree, though, that he does seem to be injury prone - a succession of the niggly variety leading to non-availability. Something, presumably, KM/MA are factoring in; but not to stop contract negotiations. A fully fit and consistently available AT would be great!

Personally I'd let him go, he is one of a few players we have who can't string many games together before he gets injured. We need to sign players who can hold their own on the pitch physically, we have a team of too many lightweights.

To good to let him go! Worth signing him for the championship even tho he gets injured quite a lot

A genuine Premier League class player that we have in our squad, at this moment, so I would be very slow to let him go, if we can do anything about it.
If you take out the freak accident with his thumb, & the post 'harsh' sending off ban he got, his availability wasn't bad in the season just gone, so I wouldn't be throwing the 'sick note' tag at him; similarly, in the Championship season, once we got him up & running after Christmas, he was an ever present feature of the team.
We have to try & sign players now, that we think/know will be able to step up to the PL, assuming that our tag of primotion favourites is justified; the first part of that process should be to ensure that as many of those players already at the club, as possible, are retained.
How much would it cost us to try & sign someone of Axel's quality this time next year?
This injury, presuming it os relatively minor, may actually be a blessing in disguise for us, as it may put off a PL club considering Axel as a very tempting out of contract signing.

I suspect this is the same hamstring injury he had with us a few months ago. Very hard to rehab and recover from, so I suspect he'd never fully recovered from the original injury.

My question is, WHY are so many of our players getting hamstring injuries, and just what are the physios NOT doing right to get these players fully fit again?

I would rather have Brandon Williams, that is if can sort his off the field problems

Seems to get an on going issue per season missing numerous games.

His inability to take a player on and provide assists through crosses actually costs us in the formation and way we try to play.

His defending is not in doubt.

We need an attacking right full back.

Cover for centre back if burgess goes/spare RB - personally I’d let Tuanzebe go.

He's always going to be injury prone im afraid . Don't think i would employ someone who is injured or sick so often depends how much we are paying him. The championship is less physical so it's probably worth the risk but opinions seem to be divided on this.
