Blues Beaten By Posh in Friendly
Saturday, 12th Jul 2025 14:52

Town were beaten 1-0 by Peterborough United in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road earlier today.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony revealed that the game took place, Bradley Ihionvien having bagged the winning goal for the visitors, who started their pre-season preparations earlier than Town and have already played games, including a 6-0 win at Stamford on Tuesday.

No media, including those from the clubs, are understood to have been at the match.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson told his side's official website: "It was a good workout against really strong opposition.

“I am pleased with how we did out of possession.Particularly in the second half, the lads implemented what we had worked on in terms of our organisation and shape.

“The fitness looks good too, which is pleasing, and in the first half we looked good in possession, so overall a good day and more minutes into the lads. We look forward to Tuesday now.”

In addition to the four public friendlies announced, the Blues are playing a number of behind-closed-doors games during their pre-season preparations.

The team sheet was

Trialist in goal, trialist, trialist, trialist, and trialist in defence, trialist, trialist, trialist, and trialist in midfield, with trialist and trialist up top :)

Not sure why one of my comments has been taken down? I only asked what the team was?

Who cares? An irrelevance in the scheme of things. Now if the proper first team squad starts getting beaten by teams such as those, that's a whole different matter.

Although pre-season games are mostly about fitness, I hope it was mostly a young/reserve team because our first team squad need to break the losing habit from last season asap.

Armchaircritic. It's irrelevant whatever the team was. It's a friendly, and tge 1st one at that. All about fitness. In 1980,under sir bobby, we lost every friendly, yet finished 2nd in the old 1st division. There's little intensity in preseason games, even more so today I'd imagine in that heat.

12 July - and no meaningful signings announced is a huge concern. We have one striker - who misses more than he plays … season starts in less than four weeks. Very poor from MA and KM. hope they don’t hide behind taking time to bed in. Ample time, like most championship clubs to strengthen. Most have.

lack of any signings with clock running down is beggining to worry me i must admit, issues unresolved such as Omari not helping . Not the run up to a huge season ,i for one was expecting.

We had a shocking pre-season in 91… so to those who are moaning this is meaningless other than giving players a run out to start building game fitness. When there are real issues moan otherwise you sound like you get off on negative comments. I think that’s masochism of a sort.

Ashton out. McKenna out. Chaplin out. Wark out. Mills out. Muhren out. Dozzell out. Sheeran out. The person who serves the pies out. The striker we bring on for the 27/28 season out. The pegwarmer keyring at Planet Blue that no one buys out. Everyone is awful.

Dooooooooom.

Far more important than signings it seems, is Ed Sheeran’s Shows at Portman Road right now.
Is success on the Pitch a serious objective anymore, or will we be seeing Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs next, followed by Jack and the Beanstalk ?
Like I forecast end of last season - don’t be surprised at anything.
But lets Live in Hope - we had much of that at this stage last close season.
Is 12 months a long time to make such a difference to so much ? - it seems it is.

Blueboy1981. You really are pathetic. . We are on the verge of making 2 signings, but they arent gonna be announced over the weekend with the concerts going on, are they. Just keep ur constant negativity to urself. Guess we are the only club who hold events during the close season? Oh no, of course not, but hey, why would we do something to bring more money into the club. Just typical really. Fans have been asking for years, since the last concert at portman road , for them to do it again. They do, and oh look, some1 slags them off for it.

Skip73. Ur spot on. But he woudnt comment on the academy getting cat1, would he? Thats something hed have to be positive about. And he doesn't do positive. If we won a gamex10-0 he'd be slagging them off for not winning 15-0.

blueboy1981 - you're really off to a bad start this year, aren't you? Hope the arthritis eases off and you have a sweet start to the season.

I work in a tile showroom in Ipswich. We had a customer in for a browse wearing official ITFC gear earlier this week. He's worked at the club for years, I asked him about current transfers, he said that there are a number in the pipeline but not over the line yet as when u are in the price market we are in you leave it later as the price comes down.
Clubs like Norwich are signing players as their signings have been cheaper so far so the money they save is small so signing early doesnt make alot of difference.
He put my mind to rest sonewhat. Dont panic everyone, we will be fine.

Ah Blueboy, I went to the club shop today to try to but the new shirt but gave up due to the enormous queues for the club shop and basically everywhere. Its a massive thing for the club, town in general. I have Norwich family who are jealous as hell. But obviously u only see the negatives.

Blueboy clearly resents the economic and social benefits to our club and town from Sheeran’s concerts. Why ?
