Town Not Looking to Sell Davis
Thursday, 7th Aug 2025 10:13

Blues left-back Leif Davis is reportedly being targeted by Premier League clubs but with Town not looking to sell one of their key players ahead of the new campaign.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Blues have turned down bids for Davis from unnamed Premier League sides this summer with the former Leeds man said to be on a number of clubs’ shortlists

Davis signed a new contract which runs to the summer of 2028 last October and the Blues are determined not to sell with the Newcastle-born full-back one of the stars of the team which won back-to-back promotions.

With Conor Townsend, the club’s other senior left-back, out for most or all of the season ahead having suffered an ACL injury, Town will look to dig their heels in regardless of Premier League interest. The lack of names mentioned in the story tends to suggest it is in any case somewhat speculative.

Earlier in the summer, TWTD revealed that Nottingham Forest were again keeping tabs on Davis having been long-term admirers of the one-time AFC Bournemouth loanee, while Newcastle and West Ham had been linked prior to the Blues’ promotion to the top flight.

In May, the one-time Morecambe youth player admitted he had had a disappointing Premier League campaign, despite having looked one of those most likely to shine after an impressive two seasons at Portman Road.

Davis is a doubt ahead of Friday’s season opener at Birmingham City having picked up a hip injury in pre-season.

Doesn't the article say we aren't selling anyway? So what's the panic?

So, are the new signings on the bus?

18 Assits in the Championship last time see no reason why he can’t do the same again this year…..Big player for Town this year

Him and Szmodics and a Clarke on the left teams won’t want to go forward

If we are honest, he was nowhere near the standard last season.

But I feel he was one of those players who needed a second season at championship, same as Omari.

The fact clubs are offering so much money though shows how much potential our players have. If Hirst has a great season too, he could be worth around £35 million sooner rather than later!

The eventual outcomes regarding the likes of LD an OH inevitably flag up the continued undiluted commitment of our owners. Ultimately we are a business and investment vehicle, where hard cash is the bottom line.

ArnieM. Agree with that, but let's face it, many laid all the blame at Murics door, and yet Davis was at fault for a lot more goals than Muric was.

The article says the lack of any interested clubs being named makes the story speculative. Whilst he will be an important player for us this season, last season showed us why Leeds didn’t think he was good enough for the step up to the Prem.

Totally agree JewellintheTown, he's a Geordie and has made no secret about how much he loves the Toon, but unless they are one of the teams allegedly interested, he won't be going anywhere.

blues1: No, no one made more mistakes leading to goals than Muric for any club last season. He and Verbruggen both made 5. But Muric made 5 in 18 league starts and Verbruggen 5 in 36. Muric made more mistakes leading to goals per 90 mins than any Ipswich player. This is a fact - look it up on the premier league website. I agree he was not the only one at fault and certainly Leif made mistakes (Fulham away etc etc) but please also correct your facts

Allblue, the club is up for sale, didn't you read the prospectus about what a great investment it would be? Are you, like many others, in denial?

The progress, and we won’t sell £100 million worth of players narratives we’re always nonsense on stilts. We really need to step back, and add some accountability, Gamechanger laid it out in very simple terms - and we still have fans burying their heads in the sand.

This is a business. The realities of spending so much and being relegated are now in full evidence.

There are consequences beyond our tribal emotions.

I can’t image we will let Leif go, it would be suicide financially as it would harm the £150 million PA upside, as we wouldn’t be going up.

It’s starting to look though that the business base case is EFL football, and the Ashton over stating our chances last year has caused a complete loss of trust from gamechanger.

‘Fool me once’.

Leif to stay - but Omari, Broady, Wolf will 100% be sold.

A couple of loans in, and it is what it is.., a talented frontline still, so let’s see.

I say we need him for this season, but if we get promoted that is one position to buy a better LB. He do not defend well against the physically big boys. Townsend was way better in that department

Doubt he would go to Leeds or another PL team unless he was going to be first-choice LB there which seems unlikely.

With Townsend’s injury we need another LB not lose one.
