McKenna Tight-Lipped on McAteer Interest Thursday, 21st Aug 2025 15:40 Boss Kieran McKenna wouldn’t be drawn on the Blues’ interest in Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer at his lunchtime press conference.
The 23-year-old Irish international is among the right-sided players Town are looking at to replace Omari Hutchinson, who was sold to Nottingham Forest for £37.5 million last week, with some reports claiming the Blues have already lodged a bid.
Quizzed on the interest, McKenna took his usual approach of not commenting on players with other clubs.
“No, nothing to add on that,” he said. “I’m pretty consistent on those matters and other teams’ players.”
Asked if there might be additions before Saturday’s game at Preston, he added: “It’s not where my focus is, to be honest. One, I don’t know and, two, at this current point in time my full focus is just on Preston and preparing with the group we have available and making sure we are ready for Saturday.”

I always thought McActeer looked dangerous. Leicester may not want to sell particularly but need to raise funds or fall foul of financial fair play.

Agree Rootshall91 - a very technical gifted and physical player. I always felt we were under pressure when he had the ball, he loves to run at defenders. Wouldn't mind this signing at all, if true.

Ogbene seen at Celtic's Champions League qualifer last night according to a mate. Maybe he's a fan, but Celtic were interested in him previously, so I guess it's possible that we are after McAteer to replace him, as well as Sindre Egeli to replace Hutchinson?

Josh Sargent from NFC or Antonio free ex WHU as a free agent as striker solutions. The latter subject to medical issues but could work as a short term solution.

There's no point in asking KM about this sort of thing everytime, as he's always going to give the same answer, and rightly so. You don't discuss other teams players in regards to possible ( or not ) transfers, if you're a manager of a football club, or you shouldn't. The lad looks a decent player from the little I've seen of him, but then, so do many others. My concerns are more in the centre midfield and striker positions, where we need at the very least, one more quality player in each position, whilst not turning down the opportunity of another quality player in any other postion of course. Like one or two other posters, I'm starting to get the feeling this is becoming more of a " balancing the books " window and not a splash the cash one, judging by what's happened so far. Well, time is dwindling fast, but still another 11 days left, still time to drive a wrecking ball through that theory!
