McAteer Fee and Personal Terms Agreed
Friday, 22nd Aug 2025 09:17

Town have agreed an £11.5 million plus add-ons fee with Leicester City for Irish international winger Kasey McAteer.

Yesterday it emerged that the Blues were targeting the 23-year-old with the clubs quickly tying up a deal.

According to The Athletic, a medical has already taken place and a four-year contract also agreed. An announcement appears likely today and McAteer available for the trip to Preston.

The Blues have been looking for a right-sided attacker to replace Omari Hutchinson, who left to join Nottingham Forest for £37.5 million last weekend.

Northampton-born McAteer joined Leicester aged eight and made his first senior appearance in the Premier League in a 4-0 victory over Newcastle in December 2021.

Having had spells on loan with Forest Green Rovers, with whom he won the 2021/22 League Two title, and AFC Wimbledon, the right-sided forward has gone on to make a total of 27 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Foxes, scoring eight goals, including his side’s second in the 2-0 win against the Blues at the King Power Stadium in May. He was a member of the squad which pipped Town to the 2023/24 Championship title.

McAteer has won six full Republic of Ireland caps, scoring one international goal. He will become the fifth senior Ireland international in the squad alongside skipper Dara O'Shea, Chieo Ogbene, Sammie Szmodics and Jack Taylor.

reading the leicester forum they are glad we are taking him and feel leicester have robbed us as they don't think he's worth 5 million trust us to over spend on a player like we did with muric

Don’t know much about him (like others on here)

Kmk will know a lot about him and how he would fit into squad (unlike me and rest on here)

A case could have been made to not sign
Hutchinson
Broadhead
Delap

Let’s give him and kmk a chance

The usual suspects flouncing and spitting their dummies out before even seeing this guy play in a Town shirt. I swear if we signed Isak for £1m there’d be some on here moaning that they’ve never rated him and what a waste of money. Ffs give the guy a chance

Voted up one of the negative comments on here by accident, meant to down vote but sausage fingers hit the up arrow. McKenna will have a plan for the young player, to close this deal so fast seems like he is very keen on him and how he will work in the system. The Leicester fans on their forums have said some good things about him too, but some love him some hate him. Played all his youth in centre of park as a box to box midfielder maybe where McKenna sees him better suited?? Should get behind this, singing a talented footballer here with bags of potential.

Guess this means we won't see Wes in a Town shirt again. Pity. Unless the Ogbene to Celtic rumours are true.

I'm confused? He was Leicester's only good player that day they beat us 2-0. Before he scored he had 3-4 really good efforts at goal. I think this is a brilliant option for us.

Philogene, Ogbene, Clarke and now McAteer + Burns - we surely have enough wingers now. Be interesting to see the last comings and goings of this window. I still feel we need another striker and midfielder

ThaiBlue. what have Clarke or Ogbene done wrong? Clarke has only been with us for a season in which he barely got a full game, and because he didn't hit the ground running, fans were on his back. Give him a chance and he will be good, he has looked better so far this season so i can only see more improvement. as for Ogbene, he has only played 7games, so how on earth can you judge him on this?

I personally think the quality of players we have bought into this club has been shocking over the past 12 months. Hence the reason we were relegated back into the Championship.

As usual moaners shouting about a player before he has had a chance to prove himself. If McM wnts him then that is good enogh for me!I remember Jackie Brown, there was a winger to moan about!!!!!!!

I think it's only right we give the poor sod a chance, yes the Leicester fans aren't exactly raving about him but he may just excel in a new environment as was pointed out to me yesterday, and at least it appears he wants to come here unlike a few others we've been linked with.

Leicester have to sell before they buy and even then they are up against FFP rules. I agree that transfer fees are getting ridiculous but if we got a similar figure for Broadhead at his age then the fee is about right in the market place. I don’t see this one as a straight forward replacement for Hutchinson and nor do the pundits on other news sites. I would rather trust KMcK’s judgement on this one as a squad member.

I don't know lots about him, I know more about him than the Norwegian that no-one knows anything about. Proven at this level, I think he's quite direct, decent physically, poses a goal threat. I think its a negative that he plays for Ireland and all their meaningless games he will be involved in.
My overall impression is that I like McAteer.
Price seems a bit high
if Birmingham had signed him today, many would all be asking why didn't we get him?

To be fair we miss the directness of Burns, I'm not against it a high price but Sunderland offered 10 million in January. I won't be surprised if another wide man leaves and one more comes in.

I totally respect the fact that all supporters are entitled to there opinion,
but crikey some of you really need to give your head a wobble. Wouldn’t surprise me if the people moaning about this potential signing are the same who want McKenna sacked. Please can all the negativity and moaning just stop and get behind the team. COYB

Initial question if he is that good why is a promotion rival selling him, do they need the money???
Can’t help worrying if this is a panic buy.

On the positive side I think McK may be able to build on his potential

I have probably pissed off those for and against this signing!!!
