Town Complete Egeli Signing Friday, 29th Aug 2025 22:19 Town have completed the signing of Norwegian international forward Sindre Walle Egeli from Danish side FC Nordsjælland.
Egeli flew to the UK this morning to complete the formalities on his switch to Town, the clubs having agreed a fee of £17.5 million payable over four years. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal.
The fee is a new record for a Championship club, eclipsing the £15.4 million Burnley paid Genk for Mike Tresor last summer.
“I’m really excited to have signed for this club,” Egeli told the official site.
“This is a club with great history and great plans for the future and this is something I really want to be a part of.
“As soon as I knew Ipswich were interested I was excited to come and I believe this club is the perfect place for me to progress in my career.
“I have had some great conversations with the manager and now I can’t wait to get started, meet my teammates and also the supporters.”
Larvik-born Egeli joined Nordsjælland’s academy from Sandefjord in his home country in 2022 and went on to make 43 appearances, scoring 11 goals and picking up 10 assists.
Having won Norway caps at U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels, highly rated Egeli, who was interesting Dutch giants PSV earlier this month, won his first and so far only full cap in 2024.
Given his age, Egeli, who has been handed the number eight shirt, doesn’t count towards Town’s 25-man Championship squad.
Egeli, who won’t be available for tomorrow’s game against Derby as the club is still awaiting international clearance and EFL approval, is the third Norwegian to represent the Blues following Jonny Parr and Vemund Brekke Skard.
The Norwegian youngster’s signing is the Blues’ fourth in just over 24 hours, following right-back Darnell Furlong, loan striker Ivan Azon and midfielder Marcelino Nunez into the club.

Anyone questioning the club's transfer mentality just need to look at the fact that we have just spent the championship record transfer fee on a 19-year-old international forward

Leedsblue1 is rhe number of players signed a metric of success, being elite? Anything at all other than volume of players signed. Some good players amongst them for sure, many big unknowns also, but it’s meaningless as a metric for Ashton. If anything it’s a measure of his lack of strategy, planning, and complete panic at this stage. We signed a huge number of players last summer.., most have left already, after our worst ever season. I really dispute .., you set the bar SO LOW. Any signing at all…, and you jump up and down like a toddler on a sugar rush, you just want the dopamine at this point. Last year we spent £150 million, and the consequences have been dire…, we lost our best 7 players and no, these aren’t better than Butchinson or Delap. Can you at least feign some objectivity. Let’s see them play, see if any are the leaders we crave, and see if McKenna can make a team from a very expensive group.., something he couldn’t do with last summers signings. Lots to prove. To be fair, apologies if you’re 10 .., when I was 10 I literally couldn’t breathe when we spent £100k on David Hill. Didn’t white live up to my fantasy in truth.

Ok … I wasn’t impressed about Liam delap signing last year so what do I know hahaha. I’m only wanting others peoples point of view. Firstly obviously welcome, and I wish him all the success. My concerns are that we have just spent all that money on a player who’s only played in the danish league with the greatest respect. He has also broken the record for most expensive player bought in the championship I believe ? Carrying that pressure will be a lot ? I’m just sceptical that we have paid all that money on an unproven player. I hope it all works out and he’s a goal machine for us !! COYB

Great news, another top quality addition to our bulging squad. Kalvin Phillips old pad down at the waterfront is going to be a bit crowded ! Think the Town may have to lease a few more apartments.

Though none of us had ever heard of him until a fortnight ago, it does seem to be an exciting signing. But I have to ask the question.....If he's that promising, why haven't any major clubs come in for him ?!

Wow what a window this has been, best ever? Amazing to think how strong our squad looks now. Remember a few years ago we'd be lucky if we spent 2 million in total and still sold our best player! We come a long way!! COYB!

Have kept quiet pretty much all summer, went on a nice holiday and trusted the club to do the best they could with the money from Delap and Omari and the parachute. I was gutted to lose Omari as Starboy was my favourite player of recent years, but we know there's a price that comes from all those great recent highs we've had when you hit a wall and have to take a step back. We wouldn't have got Delap or Omari if we hadn't got promoted, and in the same way by having that year up there in the Prem, however painful it was to come back down, it means we have the means to go to Norwich and take one of their best players, convince our first Spaniard in many moons to come here and reignite the excitement of the Pablo years, and for a 19 year old hot Norwegian prospect to leave Scandi-lands for East Anglia, not just to meet his ancestors at Sutton Hoo, but to wear the blue of Ipswich Town. We've even got arguably our best player from last season (Jens Cajuste) back in the fold. We can only judge the clubs efforts on Sept 1st for work in the window, and we can only judge the players we've held onto and brought in at the end of the season where we'll see where we're at. Rebuilding is often painful, but we've got Mckenna who attracts players and is still the best young British manager out there, and Ashton who can get those deals over the line. Let's enjoy the journey. Life after Morsy, Axel, Delap and Omari, was always gonna be tricky, but maybe Jack Clarke will relax and become the player we want him to be, Philogene's confidence will grow and put teams to the sword, Matusiwa, Nunez and Cajuste will control midfields up and down the country, and the West Brom defence will prevent other teams from scoring. Then when Egeli, Azon and Akpom are ready, we'll have the extra firepower to help out Sammie & George. It's gonna be fun guys. Maybe painful along the way, but there will be fun to be had. Put your shorts and shirt on tomorrow...enjoy the sunshine while it's still here, and get behind this wonderful club and it's new generation of players. I for one cannot wait!

Well it's definitely a revolution and not the evolution I was expecting it was going to be! That's pretty much two whole new teams worth of players in two seasons! Going to be an interesting ride over the next several weeks till everything settles down I think, but there's a lot of young talent there in amongst it. Unproven at this level in some cases, but there's only one way you can prove yourself! As for a few commenting on the possible " panicking " nature of the last couple of days. Well, whether it's the first day or the last, doesn't make any difference and it's mostly the usual suspects with their own agendas. Non of us " experts " in here know hardly anything about what's gone on behind closed doors, only what we get fed. Let's all wait and see how it all plays out. I will stick by what I said about 10 days ago. There's still going to be a few speedbumps in the Championship road over the next few weeks, but when it all comes together the prospect is exciting. We shall see!

Oh, and very remiss of me not to add this to the above post, but welcome to ITFC Sindre. It seems you have got quite a few excited. I hope you're given time to settle and learn just what the Championship is all about. The Danish league it isn't! Very best of luck for the future, we all look forward to seeing what you can produce!

Transfer money being re-invested on the squad; that's new. May turn in to a Hutchinson upgrade. Welcome.

Looks a really good one for the future and definitely worth an investment (youth level for Norway 32 goals in 35 matches, Harland 34 goals in 53 matches). I think we have a great blend of youth and experience in the squad. I don't think MA will have his feet up just yet as there are a few players to figure out to get the squad number down. I assume SWE will not count towards squad based on age.

What a signing. The past few days have been brilliant. Sadly we could lose him to Real Madrid in a few years for around £100 million. Oops I’m getting ahead of myself. FYI, I think Enzo Le Fee to Sunderland in January was the previous championship transfer record.
