Matusiwa Voted Men's Player of the Year
Friday, 1st May 2026 20:03

Midfielder Azor Matusiwa has been voted the Supporters Club’s Men’s Player of the Year having won more than 50 per cent of the vote.

The Dutchman joined the Blues from Rennes in France for £7.8 million last summer and quickly adjusted to the rigours of the Championship, becoming a virtual ever-present in the side, the 28-year-old having missed only one Championship game so far.

Winger Tudor Mendel was voted the Martin Elmy/Dale Roberts U21 Player of the Year, having received 39 per cent of the vote.

The Irene Davey Award, named in honour of the late Supporters Club patron, went to Marcelino Nunez.

Nathan Davey, Irene’s grandson, said: “The Irene Davey Award goes to Marcelino Nunez for the positive significant impact he has had on and off the pitch.

“His footballing ability would have been admired by our Nan and she would have really enjoyed watching him play for her beloved Ipswich Town.

“No doubt, she would also have enjoyed the fact he moved from them up the road! Congratulations Nacho.”

Clarke and O’Shea must of been in the running

Ironic as I believe he hasn't been playing well in the last few games...

Well deserved in my opinion - replacing Morsy was always going to be a tough ask, but he has taken to the #5 shirt like a duck to water - albeit he has been up to the standard we’ve seen him from all season in the last couple of games, but he is a Premiership midfielder and should’ve been in the Championship Team of the Season as well.

Think Jack Clarke may of slightly edged the vote had he scored THAT chance on Tuesday though

Must HAVE, for god's sake.
I cringe every time I read "must of" or "should of" or "could of".
Jesus Christ it's THE most basic grammar out there.
Absolutely embarrassing, it really is.

Huge congratulations to Matusiwa, first season at the club, taking the place of Sam Morsy. He's done brilliantly.
I voted for Jack Clarke but could have easily picked Walton, O'Shea or Matusiwa

Very well deserved and a bargain at that price.

Yes fully deserved dispite a late challenge from Oshea. Walton has also had a good season but goalkeepers rarely feature in supporters player of the year awards they are just not sexy enough for fans. Jack Clarke has made a huge contribution to our promotion challenge and could easily have won it had he made more starts but his best performances have come when coming off the bench when opposition are on tired legs. Furlong has had a good second half to the season our best defensive fullback in a long time sometimes his distribution lets him down. Davis is the complete opposite he's probably our most creative player down the left. Nunez I thought was in the running but his second half of the season was not as good after he sustained the first injury earlier in the year.

Linkboy goalkeepers usually get it when we’re rubbish as with Bart a few years ago
How things have changed!

It is also a vote that shows the maturity of our fans. A holding/recycling midfielder is even less glamorous than a CB let alone a keeper or the top goalscorers but most voters had the football sense to see how brilliant he is and as a newcomer to the club, the league and the country. Amazing player.

Comments on Nunez I find mystifying, to me he won't cut it in the Premiership, there are better classy midfielders than him to be brought in, we have to go for much better players this time around. Yes, Matusiwa deserved the award, but on Nunez's showing for an international player, he's not groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination. The big clear-out will begin very soon to bring in much better quality players into the squad. FACT
