Rangers Linked With New Neil Move
Sunday, 24th May 2026 22:30

Rangers are reportedly set to open talks with Blues loanee Dan Neil, a free agent this summer with his Sunderland contract up.

The Glasgow giants were among the sides vying to sign Neil on loan in January when the midfielder opted to join Town.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are ready to open talks with the 24-year-old, who has previously been linked with Coventry, Wolves and Valencia.

Neil made nine starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues during his loan spell.

Will do well up there for Rangers. Just not good enough for us if we want to stay up.

Couldn’t get into Sunderland’s first team. If we want to emulate Sunderland’s success in the transfer market and league position we mustn’t sign the cast offs. He did very little whilst on loan at town so not a player i would consider good enough for PL

Hmmm, let's see. If I was DN, and it actually came down to a choice between Rangers and Valencia. Let me put it this way, first plane out to Valencia please! Reasons? Scottish PL, micky mouse football, yes Rangers will get into Europe, yes they'll be out again pretty sharpish. Valencia finished just inside of the top half of a much higher quality La Liga, could be a Europe push themselves. Lifestlye, ok Glasgow has a lot more going for it than it once did, but for me, not even a contest. Weather? No need to comment. Salary? I'm guessing one winner only. Unfortunately it's not me!

Great potential but doesn't quite fit into our team. There's just something missing that I can't quite figure out. He'll be a great success elsewhere, hope he signs for anyone other than us. Not putting him down, just isn't the player we want in that position.

I think his retention will depend on his willingness to be 5th choice. We will bring in 2 others in there, and Taylor - Matusiwa will be above him. The only thing going for him is he's free, but he walked from Sunderland because he wasn't playing so Im really not expecting him to be around in July

Another who is in the decent player category. If we want to survive, we will need much much better though. Rangers would be a great move for him. We need seven new starters of excellent quality.

We need to forget about Dan Neil, helped us balance our midfield but nothing special. Let's revert to a Dutch midfield like the old days. We have Azor who is Dutch. Muhren and Thissen were magic.

There was much talk about us not being ruthless when we went up 2 years ago, but I always understood the conflict between the Band Of Brothers and new signings that time around, as even now we wonder whether that BoB would have fared better than the Chap Allstars we tried to assemble. Just not relevant this time around!

Dan Neil is gone and not the standard we need. Who cares where he is going, all I want to hear (in due course) is about incomings and how we are managing the very many outgoings necessary for the benefit of the Club and the player,,,,we owe all players that much of course, but no more, and certainly not benchwarming duties in the Prem.

I think hes good. Shame we cant keep him. The logic that if he isn't first choice for Sunderland hes not good enough for us is flawed. Every football team has strengths and weaknesses and theres 101 reasons why they might not have chosen him ranging from the system not suiting his style to the manager making a mistake or simply not liking him or liking someine else a lot. Let's not pretend football is simple or that any of us understand it well enough especially when we don't have all the facts. We are just here guessing at the end of the day.

He just isn’t what we need in the PL. Sorry Dan, good luck elsewhere.

Although he didn't show it he's obviously a very good championship player. To play in the Premier league you have to be physically very strong and technically much better as we found out the last time we got relegated.

Cressi. I suspect you’re 100% right. He’s a good player, and has qualities we lack.

There’s a lot in that group. Players who would clearly improve us, but might not be good enough for what we need. That’s a problem. We need such a leap forward in talent id.

Over to Ashton and McKenna. Players who improve us though, isn’t the MO now, and that’s a tough gig.

Not quite got that tenacity bite element to his game or quality in passing that we need in midfield...have to be looking for a step up for what we've seen in him (or not seen).

One element that we were very poor in the Prem last time were players unable to win the ball back one lost, poor in transition and that needs to be improved upon.

Broadbent23, oh yes if only! Unfortunately Dutch football isn't really what it was in the past, but there still could be one or two gems there. Though I doubt they'll be as polished as those two!
