O'Shea Added to Irish Squad For Qatar Friendly
Monday, 25th May 2026 14:30

Blues skipper Dara O’Shea has been added to the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly against Qatar at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Thursday.

O’Shea, 27, was left out of the party which was named just over a week ago with manager Heimir Hallgrímsson omitting a number of players who have had busy seasons.

However, following several withdrawals, O’Shea and Lincoln City midfielder Jack Moylan, who scored a hat-trick on his international debut in the 5-0 thrashing of Grenada in Spain earlier this month, a game in which the Blues centre-half wore the captain’s armband, have been recalled for the Qatar fixture.

Following that match, the Irish squad travel to Canada for a friendly but O’Shea, Moylan and Brentford keeper Caoimhín Kelleher won’t be involved in that game.

Blues forward Chieo Ogbene and ex-Town defender Corrie Ndaba, now with Lecce in Serie A, were named in the initial party for both matches.

Let's hope this totally pointless game has all the intensity of a training session and no-one gets injured.

I'm sure HH could have found someone else qualified to wear the shirt for just this once. Surely these guys have had enough football for one season. I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for those heading out to the World Cup too, precisely what they need, the blazing heat of an American summer. Something seriously needs to be done in the corridors of power. It won't be of course, not while greed, avarice and Sky etc calls the tune. Let's bleed the game till it runs dry shall we?

I hope Dara has managed to fit a holiday into his schedule somewhere along the line.....

I know he wants to represent his country but he has just played every minute of a 46 game league season. The guy needs a decent break

Hopefully Dara will play no more than 45 minutes or so.

Whilst this is disappointing when a break is needed, we must remember the PL season and EFL playoffs have only just finished so he has almost 3 months before we start in earnest. I think this 3 weeks of getting promoted early may be clouding our views a little...

I saw the picture first before the headline, and I was thinking that we were looking to squeeze CR7 on the bench next season. I reckon he'd take the pay cut once he gets a look at the project.

Surely these players need a break? And time with their families?

If he thought he needed a break he would have declined the call-up. I have so much respect for Dara - he knows what he’s doing. I hope he enjoys himself with his national team.
