Former Town full-back Neil Thompson has been sacked from his position as manager of Third Division Boston United. Thompson had been boss at York Street since July 2002.

The Lincolnshire club were taken over this week and Thompson and chief executive Dave Pickett have been the first casualties of new owner John Sotnick's regime.

Throughout his time with the Pilgrims Thompson has used his contacts at Portman Road to bring in new players.

At present defender Chris Hogg on loan at York Street until the end of the season. Previously, Lee Beevers and Richard Logan were signed permanently from Town, while youngsters Steve Burton and Sam Morrow also spent time on loan with the league new boys.

Rumours suggest that ex-boss Steve Evans may get his old job back, the Scot having been sacked prior to Thompson taking over following contract irregularities during the Pilgrims' promotion season.
