Royle Loses Record
Royle Loses Record
Monday, 11th Apr 2005 00:28

Town boss Joe Royle has lost his record as Everton's youngest-ever player. Toffees' striker James Vaughan, aged 16 years and 271 days, beat Royle's record by 11 days when he came on as a 74th minute sub and scored in the 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Royle made his debut for Everton, away against Blackpool in 1966.

Vaughan netted three minutes from the end of his debut and is now the Premiership's youngest-ever scorer.

However, the England U17 international is not the youngest scorer in the history of the top flight. That title still belongs to former Town midfielder Jason Dozzell, who scored on his February 1984 debut against Coventry City at Portman Road in the old First Division when only 16 years and 57 days.
