SearchTaricco Surprised But Interested Thu 10th Aug 2000 12:06 Mauricio Taricco has expressed his surprise at Town's reported interest in him. The former Town man, now at Spurs, said he was happy at the North London club, but that a move back to Town might interest him: "I have heard nothing official and as far as I'm concerned I'm in the Tottenham squad for our first game of the season which of course is against Ipswich. If Ipswich made a bid and Spurs accepted it, and it was all official then it would be different. If that were to be the case then of course I would speak to Ipswich, but it is all ifs." The Argentinian added that he liked the town as did his wife. The player Town signed for £175,000 from Argentinos Juniors still harbours dreams of playing international football, however he still feels that the Argentine management pay little attention to the Premiership. | Naysmith Signing Imminent Wed 09th Aug 2000 19:38 Scotland's Young PLayer of the Year Gary Naysmith looks the favourite to be Town's next signing. The 21-year-old defender, currently with Hearts, has been watched by George Burley for some time and may well join Town before the weekend. He is thought to be worth around the £3 million mark. Hearts are cash-strapped and may be in a position where they have to sell several of their better players. Town have also been linked with their midfielder Colin Cameron. If Town do sign Naysmith it could bring to an end any hope that Town would re-sign Mauricio Taricco as reported yesterday. The Argentinian would fetch around the same figure as Naysmith and plays the same position. George Burley saw Taricco come on as a sub for Spurs at Peterborough last night, although the Town manager emphasised that his role there was to watch Spurs, Town's first opponents, rather than any specific player. | Magilton in NI Squad Wed 09th Aug 2000 11:57 Town midfielder Jim Magilton is in the Northern Ireland squad which plays Yugoslavia at Windsor Park two days before Town's Premiership kick-off with Spurs. Town manager George Burley said he was unhappy at the timing: "It is not ideal preparation having Jim away for a few days in the week leading up to our first game of the new season." He also praised the Ulsterman saying he was playig some of his best football of his career. | Burley Out of Memorial Game Tue 08th Aug 2000 16:40 Town manager George Burley has pulled out of Sunday's Vicki Hall memorial game at Dellwood Road, Felixstowe. Whether this relates at all to any interest in Mauricio Taricco or the any other offers reported earlier is purely speculation. Hearts, Colin Cameron's club are not playing on Sunday, although Burley may feel he's not up to a game Sunday after a day of travelling should be want to watch the midfielder or striker. Besides Burley is unlikely to miss Town's game against Fiorentina. With stories suggesting interest in Taricco plus another two players it is anybody's guess where George might spring up in the next few days. My bet is that we sign someone as yet unnamed before the Fiorentina game, with the Taricco story stretching on into the new season. Whether Cameron is mentioned with regard to Town again the next few days will reveal. | Taricco to Return Shocker!!! Tue 08th Aug 2000 14:16 Town are set to make a sensational swoop for ex-Town star Mauricio Taricco. Town are to offer £3 million for the Argentinian full-back who became one of the most popular players ever to wear the blue and white. Mauricio, know to many as Maurice, played for Town between 1994 and 1998 before being controversially sold to Spurs in November 98. Spurs recently bought Ben Thatcher form Tottenham and so it seems Taricco may find himself out of the frame. The contract he signed at Spurs had a clause in it which meant Town got first refusal should he leave George Graham's club. Town manager George Burley said: "I have made firm bids for two players and I am hopeful of having them on board by the time we face Fiorentina on Saturday. In one case it could be a new record for this club. They are quality players, both of them, who will enhance our squad. At this stage we have them pencilled in, no more than that." | Vicki Hall Memorial Match Tue 08th Aug 2000 13:45 Town are playing Felixstowe Town in a memorial game for murder victim Vicki Hall at Felixstowe Town's Dellwood Avenue on Sunday (KO 12pm, turnstiles open 11am). Town squad: R Wright, Pullen, Croft, Burley, Mowbray, Miller, Moffat, Nichols, Holland, Wark, Niven, Stewart, Johnson, Logan, Friars, Abidallah, Bramble and Williams. | Tickets Still Available for Spurs Tue 08th Aug 2000 10:57 Town are reporting that there are still tickets available for the Spurs game. The tickets went on sale yesterday to Portman Plus Gold season ticket holders who continue to have priority today. From tomorrow any remaining tickets will go on sale to season ticket holders and Portman Plus members. Holders of away match passports holders will have already been allocated their tickets. Prices are £28 for upper tier and £24 for the lower level. There are no concessions. Welcome to the Premiership! | American Beauty Tue 08th Aug 2000 10:46 Town are this morning being linked with 27-year-old USA international Gregg Berghalter. | Tanner Latest Col U Recruit Mon 07th Aug 2000 14:04 Adam Tanner looks like he might join former comrades Mick Stockwell, Jason Dozzell and all the rest at Layer Road. The former Town star who is training with the Essex club appeared on the bench on Friday in a first team game at Leyton Orient and then turned out for the reserves on Saturday at Sittingbourne. Manager Steve Whitton said: "We'll have to see how the situation develops with Adam. He's just getting back into it after missing so much training. It would be silly not to have a look at him, and if he does impress, then we can't afford to let him go." | Venus Addendum Sat 05th Aug 2000 20:47 As pointed out by a couple of correspondents Venus was injured at Hitchin and not Orient. |
