Fixture List Out! Thu 22nd Jun 2000 11:13 This makes it so much more real! If any of us were still pinching ourselves, this is the proof you need: the Premier League fixtures for the 2000/2001 Season. We kick off with Spurs Away, then Man U at home. Not bad eh? We finish off the season with somewhat poorer opposition Middlesborough (Away), Coventry City (Home), Charlton Athletic (Away), Manchester City (Home) and Derby County (Away). Make of that what you will. |
Agent Touts Wright Once More Wed 21st Jun 2000 12:54 Jonathan Barnett, the increasingly unpopular with Town fans agent acting for Richard Wright, has said that the Town goalkeeper would be more than happy to speak with Celtic. Barnett, also agent for Kieron Dyer and Matt Holland, said "Celtic are a big club and, if the opportunity came, he would certainly talk to them but it is not something that we have discussed". Barnett added that Wright was happy at Town and that no actual approach had been made by Martin O'Neill's club: "Celtic have not approached Richard and we haven't even discussed it. He is still contracted to Ipswich and intends to see out his contract at Portman Road." Wright has failed to sign an extension to his contract which is up at the end of next season. If he fails to sign an extension Wright will be able to go on a free abroad or, as he will still be under 24, on a reduced fee within the UK. It looks likely that Town will offer Wright for sale if no extension is signed. |
Town and Reuser Begin Talks Tue 20th Jun 2000 11:07 Town manager George Burley and Martijn Reuser begin talks this week on the terms on which the Dutch international will join the club. Town have already agreed a fee of £1 million with Vitesse Arnhem and the Blues hope to make the scorer of so many important goals at the end of last season Town's first signing of the close season. With Reuser keen to join Town and more money available to George Burley than ever before it seems unlikely that there will be any severe sticking point between the two sides. |
Stabbed Fan Named Mon 19th Jun 2000 13:54 The Town fan stabbed at Euro 2000 has been named as Joe Ordowski, 25, of Berners Street, Ipswich. |
Caskey Story Renewed Mon 19th Jun 2000 13:22 Last summer's rumour that Town are interested in Reading midfielder Darren Caskey has resurfaced in some of yesterday's papers. The story that the ex-Tottenham man was to join the Blues was one of the enduring transfer tales a year ago, but there didn't seem to be any truth then, and there seems little in it now. |
Burley on Bent Rumours Fri 16th Jun 2000 17:24 Town manager George Burley has quickly dismissed stories that Town are interested in Sheffield United striker Marcus Bent. Bent, The Blades' scorer against Town at Portman Road, was reported to be joining Town for £3 million. Burley said: "There's nothing in it, I am very pleased with the strikers I already have at the club.. |
Town Deny Wright Wage Hike Thu 15th Jun 2000 15:04 Manager George Burley has moved swiftly to dismiss the reports that Town are to triple Richard Wright's wages to get him to stay at Portman Road. |
Town to Triple Wright's Wages Thu 15th Jun 2000 10:52 Reports this morning are claiming that Town are to triple Richard Wright's wages in order to get him to commit to the club beyond the end of next season. |
More Season Ticket News Wed 14th Jun 2000 17:12 There will be 18,000 season ticket holders at Portman Road next season the club have announced this afternoon. Originally they were going to cap this at 16,000, but the sheer numbers of applicants have pushed this figure up. Existing season ticket holders will get their application forms when the delayed forms arrive whilst new ticket holders have two options. Members of last season's Portman Plus and Blues Crew will be second in the queue for tickets, although Blues Crew members can only apply if their application is accompanied by a qualifying adult. The remaining tickets will go to a ballot of everyone else. Those wishing to take part should send an SAE to the club for their application form. No dates are being mentioned as yet so presumably it's get your application for an application in as soon as possible, fill in the form and then get it straight back. The club will also be running a priority scheme for the 1 -2,000 tickets remaining for individual matches. |
Bragstad Next Wed 14th Jun 2000 16:55 There are strong indications that Town could make their next move for Norwegian defensive star Bjorn Otto Bragstad. George Burley watched the Rosenberg player in the Scandinavians' 1-0 win over Spain yesterday and could well move for the player as soon as Euro 2000 is over. The 29-year-old played left-back last night but is comfortable anywhere across the defence. Centre-half is the area that George Burley is most looking to strengthen with Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus both in the veteran category. The player is likely to cost somewhere in the area of £1 - 2 million. |
