Poor game somewhat spoilt by fussy ref but take a point from that every day

Typical first game of the season. Both sides cancelled each other out. Birmingham full of confidence and Ipswich in defensive mode. The game lacked quality but as a boxing match it was great. Even Stephens for both American owners. Intriguing TV watch. Both teams can do better.

We lacked composure and confidence on the ball until we went 1-0 down. Greaves was immense at the back and won the penalty following a good corner from Young. A good point from a poor performance. Well done Hirst for keeping his cool with the penalty. Thought the Birmingham players reaction was way over the top with Chaplin just because he kicked the ball into the crowd after then penalty had been scored.

Shocking performance. They wanted more and deserved their goal.

What’s happened to our midfield, go get Sam back asap as we lacked any control. Apparently we’ve got loads of cash so why are we signing low grade players, at this rate we’ll be back in L1 next year.

Knew it would get heated after the ref lost the game in the first 10mins. Poor game throughout. Johnson and Ogbene both poor, Davis' head wasn't there. Greaves was suspect early doors. Looking forward to Cajuste getting stuck in now

Clearly not a great performance, but Greaves a bright spot. My MOTM. Bad performance, great result.

I will call it a 1-1 win. We will play better, I am not sure Brum will. They were shattered last 10 mins, and each of their subs made them a bit worse. Our subs slotted in generally well, esp those not out of position! Given we started without our 2 first choice wingers, we did OK. Hostile atmosphere, a wee bit unnecessarily so, but loud. Until we shut them up!

It seemed very strange to bring Ali on as a right wing essentially, but I genuinely thought he changed the pace and energy. He seems to have really bulked up too!

Sky might wish to cancel all other engagements after shoddy evening from our wannabes

Certainly take a point from that performance. Only shot on target was the penalty. Birmingham were the better side, they worked hard & harassed us throughout the game. An eye opener to the Championship with a rougher edge than the Premier. Hopefully that was a one off poor performance & we can learn lessons & move on.

Diabolical and clueless ref. Probably the worst that Town have played since KMac took over. Who’d have thought we’d end the game with Taylor and Humphreys in midfield and Al-Hamadi on the right wing?
Having said that a point was ok from that shambles of a game.

We have to accept that we are THE team to beat so we will play 46 cup finals. After watching the efficient friendlies it was hard to explain the stiffness of the players. Not playing in their best positions and some strange decisions especially Jack Clarke? Still a week to sort it out before confronting likewise late scorers Southampton. Dwell on the positives.
