dirtydingusmagee added 17:35 - Sep 15 Well we are now bottom 3,still going the wrong way under Paul Jewell,whilst it could be said team didnt play badly, they are still not good enough.After last seasons fiasco i cant believe Jewell will be given much more time, i personally didnt think that he would still be with Town come Christmas and nothing has changed my mind,unless he turns things around in next couple of games i think Brighton could / should be his last .I didnt expect or demand promotion but do not want relegation .Taylor looks good ,but we still cant score the goals we need , Chopra's 30 goal prediction was a bit wild ,now its looking laughable .Once again we are looking at a number of shortfalls in the team . MUST DO BETTER

LankHenners added 17:47 - Sep 15 I always like the optimism of the TWTD report but if we are supposedly playing well and still losing, what does that say about us? That we can't score? That we can't defend? I like to be optimistic but we better pull something out of the bag soon or we might never pick ourselves up in time. Having said that, Charlton and Barnsley are winnable games and you would think that we can get lots of points out of our (relatively easier) October fixtures.

Karlosfandangal added 17:58 - Sep 15 Well by all account the team played well, Howver we still lost. Murphy and Taylor playing only their 2nd game N,Daw 1st game. So 3 new signing and still the team are losing. Loach and Chambers plus Luongo so we have a new team bedding in again. So 6 new players and we are in the bottom 3 let's hope we get these 2 new defenders so we can aim for bottom.

thebeat added 18:24 - Sep 15 im not really surprised, we cant defend for toffee and have no cutting edge, so therefore for the foreseeable future we are average ar home and poor away.i think as fans we should just accept our status now.i'll still go and support the boys but with no real expectations.just doing it out of 37 years of loyalty really

dirtydingusmagee added 20:31 - Sep 15 Heard it said we didnt deserve to lose! sorry if you lose by more than 1 goal, you deserved to lose ,its that simple ,.Jewell has got knowhere with team building, and go's from week to week bumbling on about different positions that need sorting,one week keeper then centre half then strikers ,then back to start again .Another crap autumn of discontent looming , Clegg and Evans cant possibly expect fans to put up with it for another season .

cbower added 20:53 - Sep 15 My fifth visit to the sparsely populated Riverside and I was optimistic that with 2 wins, one draw and one defeat in the previous four, we might come away with something. As expected, N'Daw made his debut but I have to say, I was a little disappointed that it was Luongo that dropped out leaving Drury as the creative outlet in the centre of the park. Luongo's greater forward drive and energy would have been more to my liking. Despite my edginess every time we face a set piece, Boro seemed to offer little real threat in the first 20 minutes. Miller did force Loach into a good block early on when one-on-one but in general we seemed in control. Taylor looks good - quick feet, busy, a willing runner and the confidence to pull the trigger on a frequent basis. He had several attempts during the first half, going close a couple of times. Martin also forced the Boro keeper into a fine save after good work from Drury. N'Daw had some neat touches and decent distribution but he looked ponderous and strangely, for his impressive size and physique, he was neither dominant in the air nor especially biting in the tackle. Town had several corners in the first half and Smith really ought to have scored with a header but he could only place it straight into the grateful Steele's gloves from six yards. The opening goal on 34 minutes was primarily due to a very sloppy ball from Drury. He gave possession away needlessly inside his own half and one pass later the youngster Williams received the ball on the right of the Town area and drilled expertly beyond Loach. During the whole game, Drury gave the ball away far too much and whilst he was generally neat and tidy, his work is done too deep for me and he is not offering enough going forward. At half-time we really didn't deserve to be behind but we have all said this before. Boro opened the 2nd period with a quicker tempo and Town could have been caught cold as a couple of opportunities for the home side went begging. Taylor continued to be busy and Chopra, as usual, worked hard. Unfortunately, the game drifted. Murphy continued to win his flick-ons but they didn't seem to drop to blue shirts. We had good possession but never seriously threatened for long periods. Creswell had chances to deliver from the left but found the keeper far too easily on both occasions. Murphy headed a decent chance wide when he looked destined to do much better and Taylor worked an opportunity for Chopra about 12 yards out to the right of the goal. Chops struck the ball well enough but straight at the keeper who parried the ball for a corner. The Geordie boys behind me, Chopra's mates they said at the end of the game, clearly felt their pal should have done better. During the final 15, Town had most of the ball and Taylor most of the efforts. He twice went close, one deflected effort agonisingly so. Luongo replaced Drury and Scotland came on for Murphy as we chased the game. Chambers had his shirt so obviously pulled in the box as he went for a corner but the perfectly placed official failed to spot the blatant infringement - much to my disgust and frustration. JET came on for the hard-working but luckless Chopra for the final few minutes. Still chasing the game well into stoppage time, the Boro keeper claimed a Town free-kick on his six yard box and then played an exquisite low curling drop-kick beyond Edwards and straight into the path of the Boro attacker who ran on to the sublime pass to put the game beyond the boys after 93 minutes. Harsh, yes probably but the reality is another defeat and we a left looking upwards at a long, hard slog for points. There are positives but points are what we really need. Some comments on the players: Loach - some decent stops and did nothing wrong. No chance with either goal Edwards - competent but did give it away a couple of times when he should have retained possession Creswell - not playing as well as last year. Not as positive going forward and lacking decisiveness in the challenge Chambers - reasonable if at times out-muscled by Miller Smith - should have scored. Did Ok but like Chambers, Miller all too often got infront of him and was too strong as Tommy allowed him to get hold of the ball Martin - busy, good effort in fist half but wide is not his best position and he is more of a threat down the middle N'Daw - see my comments within the report. Looked ponderous Drury - as above, see the report. He was the right player to be replaced for me Murphy - won countless high balls and decent work rate. Does he really offer enough of a threat out wide? Taylor - far and away our best player. Terrier like, intelligent running, very skilful and a powerful strike. I liked what I saw today. Chopra - as always, Chops worked hard but he thrives on quality service and he didn't really get that much I'm afraid Luongo - gave more forward impetus and really unlucky not to start Scotland - nothing to report. Impact player (maybe) but not enough time to do anything today JET - even less to report than Scotland Thanks for reading and well done if you have got to the end!

runaround added 21:42 - Sep 15 same old story every match. We dominate possession but fail to create clear cut chances. When we do create chances we dont take enough of them. Whilst defensively we are far too easy to score against, looking vulnerable to every punt down field, players make individual errors weekly and there seems to be a lack of leadership on pitch, bench & boardroom. This club could go either way right now and despite the soundbites eminating from club, to the outsider we look a good bet to really struggle this year. Its vital we turn this round now or a relegation battle will enshew and I really doubt whether those that matter at club have the strength to survive that.

The point has been made about new players and it will take time. I don't like the idea of frequently changing managers but even I'm getting fed up with the PJ excuses show. Is he the man for the job?? Jury is still out for me!!!

TractorBeezer added 20:14 - Sep 16 Thanks cbower for your very comprehensive report. I always have a much better understanding about what happened when I read your reports. Seems to me that while we made chances they were mainly only half chances rather than killer balls and it seems like we still lack that steel to win balls at both ends including nine corners with no end result. We also give the ball away too much and need a leader out there to gee the boys up...especially after conceding a goal.

adeblueboy added 20:25 - Sep 16 First time on here, I went to the game yesterday and most of you on here have to realise we are not a top team anymore and players do not want to come and play for Ipswich. All the defenders linked do not come(we are getting desperate for two new ones), midfielders well we only seem to sign these. Strikers plenty Austin, sharp, fuller,bothroyd,look where they are now, and plenty more, go elsewhere why, because we are not the club we used to be. The players we have got well, loach so far ok, cresswell getting worse, Edwards very good no one seems to get passed him, smith and chambers are not commanding at all,very poor, come back mcauley. N'daw what was he doing in midfield, why drop luongo should of played, drury well he tries, Taylor he looks very good don't know how we got him! Murphy won headers but gave nothing else should of played jet. That leaves Martin and chopra, Martin plays very well in the roll behind chopra, but chopra definitely needs someone tall to feed off,he is only small and is not going to win anything in the air. Murphy up front with him perhaps? We have to play with two strikers up front you can't expect chopra to get 20 goals on his own that is not going to happen because our midfielders don't support him quick enough and when was the last time one of our midfielders scored 10 goals in a season. Finally jewell is not good but perhaps nobody else would come!

harlingblue added 21:42 - Sep 16 Thank you cbower for you report, I can't contribute about the game as I only listened to Ipswich Player...but we had numerous corners that came to nothing...coaching staff get this sorted...perhaps a phone call to Tony Pulis required? The number of times we give a goal away after an attack is rebuffed? We are in real need of a CAPTAIN who can demand an extra 10% from the team, who can read the game even if he is not the best player. Mogga was a good example?
