Ross: Ground Should Not Be Sold
at 13:48:12

Theobald, The answer to your question is quite a complex one as it depends on the economic factors used in calculating the perceived value of a tax rise.

If you take into account the cost of implementing the tax and managing the tax going forward this will give you a view on how much profit it generates. If you just look at the revenue generated from the tax (irrelevant of the running costs - which seems to be the case with most taxes), it's a very different figure.

Let's take the proposed mansion tax on £2m+ houses - you need to employ valuers to review ALL the houses within the UK to decide on the value of each house, then you have an ongoing cost to continually value houses and deal with disputes where people do not agree with the governments valuation. This may cost more to manage than it generates if you use the right formula - X (costs) + Y (Revenue) = Z (income)

However, if you just look at people with £2m+ houses paying tax and say this generates Z then you are right in saying every tax increase has generated an increase in revenue - although the operational costs have still gone up creating an additional burden on the revenue. You have simply decided to ignore them.

Y (Revenue) = Z (income) = welcome to the Public Sector!

Why so many negatives on BillBlue? He's spot on. Politics has no place in sport. The political bile being spouted is awful and your support of IBC is interesting.

Looking at the majority of the posts above whilst the opinions stated might be correct and the sale of the ground may be a bad idea at least it was a suggestion to generate investment in the town (the fact he's a chinless wonder is neither here nor there)

Labour or Tory I'd like to see more ideas like this - Ipswich town centre is dying on it's a*** through a lack of investment and affordable parking, you can't get out of town because the roads and traffic are so bad and IBC is trying to win political points by stamping out ideas...

Modern myopic UK politics in a nutshell!

Owner Evans Writes

I see there are a few trolls about today - got your negative marks boys, congrats, time for some self congratulation...?

On the whole ME talks alot of sense. Even his managerial errors were made for the right reasons - Keane had had success at Sunderland in a similar position and Jewell was a more experienced head and used to working on a shoestring - unfortunately these didn't pay off.

In McCarthy he has made an astute choice (we're not going to pay compo, so you can only take what's available at the time) and one that if we stay up which we should do, although it's not a given by any means, given a summer to get the team sorted we should be good to go in 2013/14.

Clegg Calls for End to Alcohol Ban
at 13:18:24

Buryblue - I have and whilst the crap we get sold over here is awful - Kaliber anybody...? In Germany they have actually made some passable versions - Pretty sure Erdinger does a version which is quite palatable (I think you might even be able to get it at Sainsburys!).

SE4Blue - the lager is rubbish as it'll have been chosen because it has the best mark-up - they know most people will drink whatever's available, so why eat into your margin by serving a better beer which will make less money?

Clegg Calls for End to Alcohol Ban

European clubs allow beer to be sold, however, it is all alcohol free - Have been to see Barca, Madrid and Cologne and all 3 sold beer in the stadium but not a drop of alcohol in sight - why doesn't the club try that? or is it the alcohol and not the beer that is important...?

Burley Interested in Old Job
at 13:17:47

Any chance we can bring this back into the real world?

The love of the club/playing for the badge is rose tinted BS and you all need to wake up. (I appreciate your thumbs down! :o) )

The manager's position is a JOB, we want the best available person for that JOB. He needs to be able to get the best out of his players - a love of Ipswich is not and should not be a pre-requiste, if they do, then that's great, but it should be a secondary consideration to their ability/potential as a manager.

Alf Ramsey? never represented Ipswich, no association with the club prior to appointment - Bobby Robson? never represented Ipswich, no association with the club prior to appointment.

Are you saying these two gentlemen didn't do the job to the best of their ability, despite not being Ex-Ipswich...?

Now ask yourself an honest question, is GB the best available manager today or do you really just want the Burley/Roberts team from the 90's/00's? (which you know you can't have) and do you also want Jordan Rhodes back? (even if we'd have kept him, we'd have sold him by now...!)

If you focus on the person being ex-town, having a passion for the club, etc, etc, then you're selling the club short and pandering to a vision of Nirvana that very few clubs ever achieve.

Get a short list of the best available managers, interview them, get them to spell out a tactical plan for this season to get the team playing and avoid relegation and lay-out a 5 year plan to develop the club - youth set-up/squad development/areas to strengthen/scouting requirements, commit to a review after two years and then continue from there.

Alternatively, give GB the job on the strength of what happened over 10 years ago and reap the whirlwind...!

Burley Interested in Old Job
at 11:23:08

Tony Mowbray wouldn't leave Middlesborough for town - as much as he is a Town Legend to us, HIS love is for Middlesborough.

GB, no for me, as cutmei... said, he hasn't suceeded in any job since he left Town (under a cloud, one has to say).

Mills - no, lack of recent experience.

Butcher could be interesting, but he hasn't exactly set the managerial world alight at any club (and been down right shocking at some). So a no,

and somebody gag Chopra - Alan Zzzzzzzhearer? no chance - we want somebody who will work for the club, not just use us as an experiment until he can get a bigger job in a years time...

My 3 preferences would be: Billy Davies (be interesting to see how Clegg handled that one!), Owen Coyle (he tries to get the teams playing the right way) or Paul Ince (only just thought of that one, but the more I think about it the more I like it...!)

Town Confirm Jewell's Exit
at 13:07:49

People became suspicious after a trail of Chocolate hobnobs was seem leading from the managers door towards Ipswich station shortly after Paul Jewell arrived for work today.

Sources stated "it's the only way we can get him to move, we changed the locks last night, but the cleaners were in this morning and he drifted straight in, once he see's hobnobs it's like a 5 year old with a packet of pringles - so he'll be out the way soon enough!"

Town Had 'No Intention' Of Stopping Fanzine Sales
at 15:28:10

BlueBeat, I think you'll find that matchday policing - especially at the ground - is part funded, if not totally paid for by the club, as such your council tax is still comfortably going to pay for the town to be turned into a car park by all the road works.

Luongo Back for Town
at 23:02:00

The simple fact is that Jewell and Clegg have had all off season to get a centre half, they get one and then release one of the only 2 we had - which means we now need another one/two.

They have failed to address this problem for almost 2 years and we had one of the worst Goals against in the division last year and we're currently got the worst goal difference in the league so far this season...

Smith Due Back at Club Today
at 09:47:05

Meanwhile back at fatty owls...

Jewell to Hutchy "Let's give Tommy a rest and play one of our other Centre Halves?"
Hutchy turns to Clegg "you still haven't told him have you?"
Hutchy to Jewell - pats his leg "why don't we just rest him and give 3 at the back a go, pull in the full backs? and how about a nice cup of tea? Simon's brought hob-nobs!"
Jewell looks whistfully into space "Hob-nobs? YAY, my favourite." *claps hands*
Jewell "I've been looking into our central midfield problem..."
Hutchy "SIMON!"
