Dolly and Lucan both gone?
at 10:02 3 Jul 2025

I think the real trick is to just try and be civilised and polite, as much as possible.

There are lots of people on here who's politics i disagree with (yourself included!), but i don't find it too hard to not fall out.

Or if you find another poster truly objectionable, just stick them on ignore, as you ain't going to be changing their opinion, no matter how hard you argue.

I totally understand that people feel passionately about a lot of the issues discussed, and maybe I'm too relaxed about it, but you're not going to change the beliefs that others feel equally passionate about (even if they are clearly wrong! )

Within how many minutes of waking up do you check TWTD?

I'm sort of ashamed to admit the same. 4 key activities every morning:

1) Coffee
2) Pain au Chocolate
3) TWTD
4) A really, really, big poo

I don't have the statistics to hand to prove it, but I'm 100% sure we had much colder winters in the 80s and 90s, with more frost and snow. The last proper snow we've had in Suffolk was the beast from the east in 2018, which was a bit of a freak event, and I seem to recall we'd not had much for a while before that.

Edit: if you select average minimum winter temperature on the selection for trends on here, it again tells a fairly compelling tale.

Fair play to the BBC, actually sticking up for a news presenter.
at 18:03 2 Jul 2025

Yep.

Incidents like this (the original script and the reaction to the correction) infuriate me. There are so many hugely important issues to address through EDI (DEI) initiatives, but this sort of incident just plays into the narrative from certain groups that it's all just woke nonsense.

Other than the O’Shea new deal….

Townsend's injury is better. So there is that.

Even allowing for an expected quiet period after the season, it has been oddly lacking in excitement.

Howard Beckett comes as an absolute prick an awful lot of the time.

Much like one of the posters in this thread (not the OP).

Agree with this OP.

On more than one occasion I've considered taking a sabbatical till the season starts, as a lot of stuff on here (both football and non football) has actually annoyed me somewhat, and ive found myself getting involved in stuff I'd usually just ignore.

But this place is sort of oddly addictive, so I'm still here!

Important stuff like this should never be put to a public vote. The public absolutely cannot be trusted.

Bob Vylan at Glastonbury..

If someone (an Israeli for example) said death to hamas after the October 7th atrocity, not one person would say that was islamaphobic, despite all of hamas being Muslim.

I struggle to see how different rules would be applied here.

What Bob Vylan did was stupid, but to argue it was anti semitic is a massive stretch.

Got to say, your posting in this thread is in pretty poor taste, in my opinion. Deliberately twisting the truth to fit the narrative you want to present.

Agree with all of this. I'm only a hobby gardener, but recognise these factors, so can imagine you must be very aware of it.

Slightly bemused by how many still seem to want to deny what their own eyes are showing them.

Yes, and that year was a massive outlier, rather than a long term trend.

Morning benters.

I've actively avoided getting a smartwatch or anything similar, as I think I'd become obsessive about things like this, but instead just make sure I stay active. Lots of walking, usually 2 of playing football, badminton or going for a bike ride each week. Loads of time gardening.

So you're saying we should all move to Cornwall? I hear the locals are hugely welcoming of outsiders moving in.....

In all seriousness, I'm not sure to what extent what we're seeing in Suffolk is being repeated elsewhere, but I've not known a spring as dry as we've had here in my adult life.

Whilst this is obviously a touch facetious, I have long held the view that 'fixing' this can't be down to individuals (though it can help), but can only really be done by joined up thinking and policy from global governments.

We're fooked, aren't we?
