One closing down the man with the ball and one covering his move. Simple, disciplined & effective. We've been too often one-on-one this season and been punished for it. We saw their attack on the break being lethal as well. |

Credit where it's due. Top striker who can score with both feet and looks like a fun guy to have around. Best memory was the season they won the league and he hit that volley against Liverpool from outside the box that came over his shoulder. I'd like him to get to 200 and if it's against us, let it be the consolation when they're 4-0 down or with the last kick of the season away at Bournemouth. |

Amnesia kicks in by about Wednesday when anticipation for the weekend match starts to grow. Match day starts with a scan of the fixtures, permutations considered, line-ups and systems, then it's into the car for the three hours to Portman Road. Radio 5 interspersed with some banging tunes usually from a bygone age get the mood up as anticipation morphs into expectation the further along the A12 I get. The walk to the ground brings back all the memories of that kid who was awestruck on first ever sight of a league ground. Then 20 minutes after kick off, reality kicks in and it's a different world. While appreciating the speed & skill of the footballers these days, the sanitised PL game has improved a lot, lost some bits and lacks the balance needed for competition. This season has had many high points and we've been ahead many times which feeds the feeling that we're good enough and close but no cigar. Then it's back down the A12 with R5 match reports, a bit of 606 and cheering myself up with thoughts of how much worse it must be as a fan of The Top Six. You'd go into every game needing a win, into most expecting a win and occasionally being disappointed. You sell your season ticket to tourists for all but a few games each year. They might get half a dozen matches each season that have some feeling of excitement. It's Monday now, so only two days for amnesia to kick in. Looking forward to a few wins before the end of May and a lot of fun next year |

I've often wondered why Leif is a left back because he looks better on the wing. |
 | Forum Thread | Three Forest matches at 12:08 16 Mar 2025
I've been at all the Forest games this season. We were close in two and hammered yesterday. How can that be? Perhaps Nuno is a better tactician. KMC is a smart lad and this season has been a tough education. I hope he's learnt from it because he was very smart last year with team selection and changes. |
 | Forum Thread | Too many changes this season at 12:04 16 Mar 2025
I thought we'd be OK this season with new additions to strengthen the core squad that drove us through the last two seasons. There is no doubt that the PL is a massive step but one of the strengths last season, was character. I though Chaplin embodied that and was a big presence in the team. He made Hutchinson better and fed the wings faster where this season we have looked slow by comparisson. Similarly, Leif was always taking on people last season but tends to run, stop and look back or sideways. Bournemouth and Palace showed us what quick thinking will do. I'm surprised at the wholesale changes on the pitch instead of adding to the core team that served us so well and I'm surprised at the way KMC has moved his subs back from 65 to 75/80 minutes this season. Delap is a powerhouse but the PL managers have sussed him & Hutch out so they'd be better as impact subs in my opinion. But hey, we're all managers on this forum and there's probably a different perspective from wherever you sit. |

Thanks to Mancblue for suggesting a pre match venue in Sale. Fans from Ipswich with a lad on his 81st consecutive match. Easy trip in & out of OT on the tram. No hassle from stewards or Utd fans and it made a nice change to have a bar inside that had plenty of staff and the steak pie was decent. Jim Ratcliffe has come in for some stick but appreciates people don't spend money while standing in a queue. Next stop Forest. Come on Kieran, sort it out. |
 | Forum Thread | McKenna's approach this season... at 09:16 27 Feb 2025
...seems very different to last season where he made bigger tactical changes at 65-70 minutes in most games. Strange that he's not done similar this season. Let's also remember that we were very leaky last season but scored a lot. PL teams have a better defence and ours needed more improvement. Roy H started with the defence at Fulham & Palace. The PL quality gap doesn't explain or excuse many of our slips this season. I remain confident that this group has the ability to turn things around. Time will tell. [Post edited 27 Feb 9:17]

This is another match where we've been a couple of silly errors away from 3 points. I still think that the players and staff can fix it, but they're leaving it a bit late in the season. Great turnout from the fans and we were loud throughout. |
 | Forum Thread | Still in the league. Keep the faith at 16:19 24 Feb 2025
There's plenty of season to play for and we are still in with a great shout to stay up. Stop the mistakes and bury some chances and we're home & dry. Like others, I thought we've been in most of the matches, got mugged in a few, got hammered in a three (?) and never turned up for a few. Either way, I expected we'd have more points but be in the bottom six. We've been a few slips from another twelve points but that's the PL and it has been more of a difference than expected. |

Ticket info still pending. We need the same noise as Barnsley away |

We're a long way in and I'm not sure if we have a nailed-on team like last season. I also think there are too many changes to the starting line-up (despite injuries). Everyone on here has an opinion of course so mine just centres around some key positions. I think we need Philips to start based on his performance at Brentford when he knew he was OK as Sam M couldn't play. Seemed very direct and more forward vision. Omari has become a known target & is getting crowded out and bullied and I think better as an impact sub for a few games along with Chaplin. They always seemed to have a telepathic understanding and Omari seemed to play better with Chaplin on the pitch. My Villa mate reckons Philogene is a good purchase. He got a decent goal at Coventry but wasn't fed anything at Liverpool despite screaming for the ball in good positions. It's fine margins in the PL and Coventry showed us just how big the gap is. I still reckon we're going to stay up and if we stop making daft mistakes, could surprise a few people on the run in. |
 | Forum Thread | Faster movement please at 15:11 26 Jan 2025
Last season, we were quick with the ball. I appreciate that PL teams are stronger & faster but I don't think we've played on our strengths enough. Philogene was gagging for it yesterday and too often a pass was delayed or igniored. Enciso looks useful, Hirst knows where the goal is and Broadhead is always looking forward. Hutchinson seems to be getting shoved away too often and Delap hogs the ball. In fairness, both had three men on them whenever they got the ball against City & Liverpool and teams might be sussing us out. Time for KMK to mix it up methinks. Play the last line up yesterday from the start and use Delap, Hutchinson & Chaplin as impact subs at 70 minutes. Oh yeah.......is anything wrong with Szmodics? He ought to figure as well. |
 | Forum Thread | We keep losing more than getting beaten but.... at 23:23 21 Dec 2024
Newcastle were probably the best today and our performance one of the worst this season. It's been said a lot on here, but we can't keep giving teams in the PL a head start. First goal - Isak obviously the danger man left in too much space as O Shea gets dragged into the box Third goal - O'Shea to Muric and asked for a quick on-two out to the right but he stalls and gives a hospital pass a bit like Hladky at Hull last season Fourth - 2 v 5 in the box. Sweet back heel but Isak in too much space again At the other end, we're too slow & predictable in attack. I keep thinking we're so much better than these performances are showing and it looks like the lads are looking lost in some games. |

Delap was marked well all game. Would it have been worth playing AH at 70 minutes instead of Clarke or even dare I say, Delap? They would have planned for Delap but probably not AH. |
