The 4th women’s goal..
at 10:51 25 Mar 2024

That goal is indeed typical of the patterns of play that Joe Sheehan has coached the team on. He's been open about looking to establish a similar identity to the men in collaboration with McKenna. Admittedly that goal is a particularly good example of how they try to play, especially the finish by Gunning-Williams. Sadly that philosophy isn't always translated on to lesser quality playing surfaces or permitted by more aggressive opposition (who are typical at 3rd tier level).

But agree its fantastic to see such consistent patterns of play and tactical approach deployed by teams throughout the club - especially when it's successful!

For ITFC Women, you can see Laura Hartley mirroring Hladky's confidence with ball to feet. For Leif Davis' left-side marauding see Summer Hughes. Natasha Thomas works unselfishly like Moore/Hirst to support Gunning-Williams (Broadhead) and Peskett (Burns) in the wide attacker roles. Kyra Robertson patrols midfield confidently and leads by example akin to Morsy.

Its a pleasure to watch week in week out.

I suspect hardly anyone called up to give their views post match, rather limiting the ability to focus on ITFC?

Thanks for the kind words re. the trailer! The tune is from the season review VHS in 91/92 (and partially used in 92/93 too)!

I have a day job (sadly!), but feel free to PM if I can help with any video/audio stuff!

Don't want to diminish that 'achievement', but they really shouldn't be at this level should they? 0pts with -79 GD is a bit of a joke.

I might be wrong, but the last time there was a playoff like this it was a one-off game at a neutral venue.

That is correct, sadly. A real farce that there's a bottleneck created by the league which ultimately stifles the progress of ambitious lower league clubs. Might get addressed for the 23/24 season, but no plans to change it for this season or next.

Soton face Gillingham away in a fortnight, who are among the form teams in the division at the mo. ITFC were held to a 0-0 draw by them at the Goldstar in late Jan. I hope they can do us a favour.

I don't think the Southampton v Oxford game has been rescheduled yet, but they do indeed need to play each other again.

Town beat Cardiff City Ladies comfortably 3-0, whilst Southampton conceded an 88th minute equaliser to Bridgwater (who ITFC defeated last week) to draw. Meanwhile, Oxford were beaten by MK Dons.

In theory it means even if Southampton win all of their five games in hand on us, an ITFC win when we play them at the Goldstar would have Town one point better off. Clearly lots of football still to be played, but a real swing of momentum in favour of the Tractor Girls today!

Tractor Girls Beat Saints on Penalties to Reach FA Cup Last Eight For First Time 27th Feb 2022 19:26
Ipswich Town Women secured a historic place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup by beating fellow FA Women’s National League Southern Premier side Southampton on penalties following a tightly-contested tie at the Goldstar Ground which had ended 1-1 after extra-time, Saints goalkeeper Kayla Rendell having scored a sensational last-gasp equaliser after Anna Grey had put the Tractor Girls in front. 21

Interview with ITFC Women ahead of FA Cup 5th round
at 08:45 24 Feb 2022

Morning all,

I hope you don't mind a plug or a distraction from events in the wider world. I've just done an interview with three of the ITFC Women squad - Natasha Thomas, Paige Peake and Olivia Smith - ahead of their FA Cup 5th Round against title rivals Southampton on Sunday.

The interview is hopefully accessible for anyone with a passing interest, who's maybe thinking about attending on Sunday or beyond and wants to find out more. For those a bit more keen there's plenty of insights on the team, the season so far, and obviously Sunday's big game.
