All season long I’ve watched teams, including us, have counter attacks stopped because a player went down holding their face even if the contact was obviously never going to cause concussion. The one time a team breaks on us after we have a player go down holding their head they are told carry on and pop the ball in the net. Not sure how you can even claim that as incompetence, just a flagrant contradiction of all previous precedent. |

As soon as we had half our team booked in 45 mins v Liverpool on opening day just for looking at someone in a red shirt I knew this is what we would have to put up with all season. It's one thing to be bad, it's another to be bad and completely inconsistent within games depending on who is playing. |

Today was the first game I’ve seen us play this season where it actually looks like we have more quality than the opposition, and we lost at home to them with a whimper. Really not sure where we go from here. |

Have to say I didn’t take much notice of the championship last season other than a couple Burnley games. How poor was the league that these 3 who are rock bottom were the best from it, or is the gap really just that big? |

Think I saw the xG was something like 3 - 0.9, really should have won that more comfortably! Crazy to think we've got 21 points out of 24 and yet we've been unlucky with a few of the score lines, think it shows we've definitely not fluked our way to 2nd so far. |

They have some very good players and when they click they have the capability of tearing teams apart. Having said that they do look quite vulnerable at the moment, especially passing out from the back. I think our press will present us with a good few chances and we probably won't be as open as the Leeds game due to being away from home. Can see us nicking it 2-1 but also wouldn't be surprised if we came away 3-1 losers. |

Not sure that’s true, just think people were taking Ashton for his word when he said we were looking to bring in 3/4 and would only be targeting players who improve the XI. That’s not happened, fair enough, no need for bed wetting, but don’t think you can blame people for wanting more when that expectation has come from the CEO. |

I think they’ll go down but won’t be anywhere near Derby’s record. |

Not sure there was ever a chance we lost players we didn’t want to go. I think only Davis currently fits the profile of a player who could be on the radar of clubs who are more attractive than us. I don’t think it’s a bad window overall. When we got promoted I was happy at that time to have a solid year of consolidation and see how we adapted as a squad to the Championship. I think the problem has come from the club seemingly wanting much more than that which hasn’t been reflected in the business we’ve done. |

Stu and Phil both reporting our business is done for the window both in and out. Pretty disappointing really, feel we’re still short in a couple areas and obviously have missed out on targets. Hopefully we can stay injury free until January. |

Him and Elanga would have been decent backup to Burns and Broady tbf, Ashton out. |

Didn’t Ashton come out and say we’ll now only be making signings that improve the XI? Not sure this one fits into that. Like I said I’m not surprised by this given Hirst is our starter but Ashton probably should wait until after our business is done before talking big as it just creates room for negativity when there is no need. |
 | Forum Reply | Dane Scarlett at 10:48 31 Aug 2023
Would have preferred us to do a deal like Davis on a permanent but think it was always going to be hard to bring in a quality striker permanently when Hirst is already our starter so I’m not surprised by this. Not the best reviews from Pompey fans but hopefully a year of senior football has helped him progress. |
 | Forum Reply | Summer Recruitment at 10:01 31 Aug 2023
He wasn’t brought in to improve the first team, he’s a 3rd choice keeper who barring disaster won’t play a minute of league action and won’t have any impact on where we finish. |
 | Forum Reply | Summer Recruitment at 09:49 31 Aug 2023
The thing that worries me slightly is we haven’t actually been able to convince anyone *new* to join us permanently. Hirst was already sold on the project last season and Taylor was begging to join us in January but told to wait 6 months. Anyone we’ve had first contact with this summer has obviously not materialised into a move for whatever reason, not sure if we’ll find out why. |

If it wasn’t for the Goodison atmosphere I’m confident these lot would be league 1 by now. Dreadful team who need to be relegated. |

They may have looked but we obviously haven't signed anyone from abroad or been linked, although links are few and far between these days anyway so can't read too much into that. The rules are the same for everyone, Plymouth signed players from abroad this year, as did Wednesday. Last season Sunderland got 3/4 from abroad, Coventry got Hamer in their first season in the Champ. It's a market we should be looking at in our current position but feels like we're focusing on a select pool of young Prem players who aren't quite good enough for that level but have potential. That's good and it's paid off for us before but the competition for those players is fierce. If we have decided against looking overseas this year I hope it's something we are considering to do more of moving forward. |
