Ex-Blues Win National League Title With Chesterfield
at 21:25:04

As much as it ultimately didn’t work out for us with Cook as manager, a fair number of our key players from the past couple of seasons – Morsy, Chaplin, Burns, Walton, Hladký, Burgess, Edmundson, Evans – joined the club during his tenure and a few of them had worked with him previously, so he definitely had a bearing on them coming to Ipswich. I don’t have the same ill feeling towards him as I do to some of our previous managers from the Evans era.

It’s good to see Chesterfield back in the League.

Ipswich Town 4-3 Rotherham United - Match Report
at 22:15:58

Get. In. There.

I predicted a seven-goal game, but not quite that scoreline...

Another poor goal conceded early on but we came back well, although the injury to their player rather disrupted things. I thought we’d be better in the second half but we weren’t, and I was just accepting that we’d hold on for a 3–2 win but then that stupid penalty came along. Failing to beat Rotherham at home would have been awful but Hutchinson came up with a brilliant finish and, thankfully, that was that.

I was surprised Al-Hamadi didn’t come on earlier and thought Travis had a good game before he was subbed. Our defence did not look hugely solid tonight, with Woolfenden and Clarke both having hairy moments, and Tuanzebe off the bench wasn’t particularly good. I was worried about us having made six substitutes but it seems like we were alright as one of Rotherham’s was for a concussion so we were allowed another. Although you could say we made seven as Cameron Humphreys came off the bench...

Then Keith Stroud decided to try and completely ruin things at the end but it wasn’t to be, thank God.

Painful to watch at times and we would have lost to better teams tonight but getting the win was the most important thing, and we did that – just about. We’ve had some late equalisers recently but not late winners, so this was overdue. And Southampton’s defeat makes things sweeter.

What a win. One of the best of the season so far. And we deserved it.

Travis did well in his first game, and we showed that we have it in us to get a result without Morsy. Jackson kept working away up front and his goal was an excellent finish. Edmundson was a rock in defence and was my man of the match. And it was nice to have Davis back - I’m sure he enjoyed that win seeing as he’s a Newcastle fan.

That really was a great three points to get after going behind, showing good character and perseverance despite being without our regular captain and regular striker (Hirst) - and despite the fact we were arguably playing against 12... Cracking result.

Frustrating.

Humphreys was my MotM (considering he has virtually no experience at this level, he did well), Buabo looked decent off the bench and Harness tried to make things happen. Williams and Ladapo were not very good.

It’s been an unbelievable year but it’s a shame it couldn’t end with three points tonight.

As said already, we fully deserved that.

Such a thrill to score so late – and a nice tonic after that result on Saturday.

I’m so pleased we got our reward for a good second-half performance and we showed that we aren’t planning on falling away in this promotion fight.

Merry Christmas From TWTD
at 22:40:10

Happy Christmas and thank you for providing such a brilliant and invaluable website for us Town fans. I visit TWTD virtually every day and I can't really imagine being without it.

This has been the best year to follow Ipswich that I can remember and the club is only heading in a positive direction. Hopefully 2024 will rival 2023 and be another successful one for us.

Yet another win! And that was some goal from Burns. Being in line with the shot and watching it bend in was a bit special. Just really annoying not to keep a clean sheet... A good start to a very testing month. We are having a remarkable season once again.

Ipswich Town 3-1 Millwall - Match Report
at 22:36:35

Really good to get back to winning ways. Against a team with such an away record, to beat Millwall with relative ease was excellent. Just a shame we couldn’t get that clean sheet! Hopefully one will come on Saturday (plus three more points).

You can see Tuanzebe’s class when he plays - I’m so pleased we signed him. Luongo was back to his best, though should have had another goal in the second half! That moment of skill from Harness late on that almost set Scarlett up for a fourth was excellent and deserved a goal.

Our goals were very well worked but the second was the pick of the bunch. We are a joy to watch when we move it like that. It would have been amazing if Hirst had made it three inside 14 minutes with that first-time shot from our superb counter but Bart made the save. We should really have won both halves of football but the final result is what matters most.

I’m so glad the fog didn’t get any worse that it did during that second half! It would have been so frustrating to see the win taken away from us by the weather. A very good three points and now on to Coventry at home at the weekend! Bound to be yet more goals. ⚽

Burgess Wins Cap as Socceroos Beaten at Wembley
at 23:21:12

Burgess played very well and was fortunate not to be hurt in that challenge - Gallagher was lucky to escape any punishment. It's a shame Luongo didn't get on but I'm sure it was a good experience for them both either way.

If there hadn't been any ITFC interest in the match, I don't think I'd have watched it all the way through - England can be pretty uninspiring to watch at times. Australia arguably deserved a result.

Ipswich Town 4-2 Preston North End - Match Report
at 17:15:09

Thank God we won that.

I think Preston were fortunate to go in at half-time only 3-1 down. Both of their goals today were poor ones to concede and we could have scored more in that first half.

For around 25 minutes after the break we were looking second-best, so Jackson’s goal was a huge relief. But I think anything other than a win for us would have been wrong seeing as we played so well at times - if we’d kept on in the second half as we’d ended the first, we would have been out of sight.

I don’t think Luongo had his best game today, but it was great to see him get his Australia call-up. Williams was my MotM - what a run and finish.

Eight points clear of 3rd after a quarter of the season and 11 points clear of Norwich. Absolutely fantastic. And just the 29,018 inside the ground today, although that is pretty much the norm now.

This season is superb.

Ipswich Town 4-3 Blackburn Rovers - Match Report
at 17:25:24

We all know the qualities that we have but this start is beyond anything I could have realistically hoped for or expected. Seven wins from eight for a newly-promoted team - fantastic.

That was some game. I still feel exhausted from watching it. BBC stats say that we had 29 shots! I would have been so gutted if we’d not won, but I knew Blackburn would be a threat. Another huge three points.

Broadhead excellent. Morsy superb. Hutchinson was brilliant off the bench, and Harness did very well also. And Luongo - what a goal! So good for Clarke to get his first for the club, too. We really do have a team to be proud of.

Ten goals for and nine against in three home games - certainly not boring!

And Norwich got hit for six - such a shame.

And Hladký made some really important stops. He had a better game today after being culpable for a couple of Leeds’ goals last week. I’m pleased for him to have had this run in the team.
