Before Abramovich arrived at Chelsea in 2003, we had recorded more top-three finishes than them (6 vs 5). And that's with Chelsea having joined the League over 30 years before we even turned professional and playing in the First Division 54 years before we did. Just thought that was mildly interesting. |

I remember that person saying how they loved the way in which a large crowd could he hushed into silence in a moment for a period of remembrance. Seemed almost fetishistic. Am I right in thinking that thread doesn't exist anymore? 😔 |

It's not like the commentator can even utter a line about a winning goal meaning that a team will be "going to Wembley" seeing as they are already there for the semis... |

Their record this season: WWLWLWWWLDWWDDWDWWWWWWWWWLLDLDWWDLDLDDDDLLDDL Nathan Lowe joined on loan in August after they'd won their first two games and he came on as a sub in their third match, a 1–0 defeat at Tranmere. He was recalled by Stoke in January, the day after Walsall had beaten Tranmere 5–1 in the return fixture. This was the eighth of nine consecutive wins. Their matches during his time at the club are highlighted in bold above. The final-day fixtures that matter in the race for third: Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall Notts County vs Doncaster Rovers (Doncaster are already promoted) Bradford are 3rd on 75 points (+18 GD), Walsall are 4th on 74 (+20) and Notts County are 5th on 72 (+20). |

That is apparently the only time we have ever played them in a competitive match. It would be rather nice for their new supporters to get a dose of reality next season. |
 | Forum Thread | When did you first feel like we would get relegated? at 00:16 27 Apr 2025
Everton (H) back in October for me. Two dreadful goals conceded and a limp display. If we'd got one back when we were 0–2 down I think we would have potentially got a result as Everton were awful themselves and they would have been rattled. But we didn't. That was a depressing day. That came after those two expected defeats at the start of the season and then four straight draws, and then the defeat at West Ham. We then threw away points whilst simultaneously being shafted by the officials at Brentford and at home to Leicester. Those games gave some form of hope whilst also being demoralising but then we won at Spurs and should have beaten Man U. Things were feeling a bit more positive after those two games, and we got that last-gasp win at Wolves and beat Chelsea to end the year, but those results were in amongst more defeats, including the capitulation against Bournemouth. Who knows how things would have ended up if Jack Clarke's late shot at Fulham hadn't hit the post, but I doubt it would have ultimately changed the outcome of our season. But it was so nearly back-to-back wins. It's the hope that kills you, and the few positive moments and results have kept us hanging in there, but defeats like the one to Southampton were dreadful and ultimately showed that we weren't going to stay up. That was a day that only pointed to relegation. Going into the season as favourites to finish in the bottom three was no surprise given where we had come from but I honestly did think we would do a bit better than we have. But I'm positive about the 2025–26 campaign, as I think most on here are. I will be glad to see the back of this season — I'm just hoping we can have a result on the final day to sign off with, akin to Leeds in 2019. Edit: Just seen the earlier thread that asks basically the same thing... [Post edited 27 Apr 1:04]

3–0 up inside 10 minutes. They could still not finish top even with a win, so this certainly helps the goal difference. Potentially Truro vs Carlisle and Truro vs Gateshead next season... |

When was the last season where none of the modern-day Premier League "Big Six" — Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Spurs — finished in the top six of the top division? |

Hirst is an excellent footballer. Anybody know how much we actually paid for him? Whatever it was, I'm sure it was a snip. (I remember initially reading something like £1/1.5 million but that just seems ridiculously low) |

But they do have a rich European legacy? Beating Bayern Munich was clearly the greatest achievement by an English team in UEFA competition and Jeremy Goss scored a goal that Pelé could only have dreamed of. And they were so kind and sporting towards their opponents that they decided they didn't need to participate in the tournament any further and withdrew before Christmas to let another team win. Very generous of them. |

Eighteen defeats in 33 and sitting in 16th, yet they're one of the highest scorers in the Premier League. For what it's worth, we've lost only two more games than they have. |

In 1992, Luton, Notts County and West Ham were all relegated from the First Division to the First Division. |
