It seems strange to want town to lose tonight...
at 11:23 26 Jan 2021

but feels like one step back for a leap forward. PL needs to go for any hope of promotion and a result, even a draw, will just elongate the current situation even further.

Preston's recent form isn't too shabby

I'd take a draw today. Really interested to see the team/formation Lambert puts out.

I was a big supporter of Hurst, his appointment and signings...
at 17:42 25 Oct 2018

... but he had to go. Anyone who went to the QPR game could see that - one of the worst performances I have seen from a town side (old enough to remember the end of Royle's era so has seen some absolute tosh since then). I haven't commented on the forum this season but I think Hurst's main issue was he was tactically way out of his depth. A number of things have been obvious for a while:

1. One up front wasn't working - the lone man was extremely isolated. Lately, it seemed the service up to the striker was essentially 'hit it long to the channels'. And when Freddie or Jackson managed to retain the ball, the midfield was slow to get up in support.

2. Skuse and Chalobah in the midfield, doing exactly the same job. A lack of endeavour to get forward from both contributed to lone striker's isolation. If you are going to play the two sitting midfielders, one has to get forward and Skuse was never going to fill that role. Chalobah is a good, young, inexperienced centre-half playing at CM and a tough ask for him. This probably also contributed to Nolan's poor form, as it made it difficult to play off others.

3. Consistently playing 3CBs (Pennington at RB) and then Donacien, a right back, at left back. Square pegs, round holes etc. that we've seen under Keane and McCarthy. Playing a CB at fullback really impacts the team's balance and attacking capabilities going forward.

4. Dropping Bart. Gerks did well initially but since making the error at Birmingham, has been on the slide. Even before the calamity corner, we almost conceded from another vs QPR.

I feel sorry for Hurst and think he was unlucky at the start of the season with some results, like Rotherham and Norwich. However, I think Evans, who should not go uncriticised, is doing the right thing - we need to act now otherwise it will be too late. When it worked e.g. First half vs Brum, particularly Nolan's goal (into the channel for Jackson to chase, Nolan arriving on edge, first time finish) it was exciting and I think fans could see what Hurst was trying to do. But the football has slowly got worse and worse and town fans can see that. Selling our best players and brining in so many (undoubtably talented) but raw, inexperienced, lower league players in such a short space of time was a mistake. Having said that, I think Hurst's signing are all potentially good players.

At the end of the day MM had to go. It was time. But Hurst turned out to be the wrong appointment. We need to move on. I'm not sure what to make of Lambert. Following Norwich, he had a fairly poor time of it. But he got Norwich promoted from Lg 1 with a group of hungry, lower league players, so hopefully he can galvanise the squad.

Does our interest in signing Nsiala...
at 16:46 1 Aug 2018

mean the end of our long-term interest in Tilt?

Ideally, we would get both as we are short at the back, but Nsiala will cost a fair chunk it seems.

Reckon we may sign one and look for cover at CB in the loan window.
