Town Agree Five-Year Sponsorship Deal With Greene King
at 08:17:23

Good news overall, there is an affinity with Greene King, it was disappointing how they were treated when TXU came in as sponsors so it is good to see them back.

As for the beer, IPA is pretty tasteless, especially in comparison to Adnams' ales. Abbot Ale definitely has more flavour. Old Speckled Hen is OK, but IMHO isn't as good as it was before GK bought the brand, Old Crafty Hen is nice though. They have produced some other beers that are less commonly found but are better than the standard range. I've been trying to remember the name of one that I found at a couple of events last summer that was superb.

Of course they will have IPA and Speckled Hen, but I really hope that they send at least one different beer for each match, make it a bit of a season long beer festival - now that sounds like a good marketing opportunity!

Bournemouth Game Switch Confirmed
at 21:08:50

Ipswich Witches won't be happy. Good Friday afternoon is normally one of their bigger gates of the season, and usually first part of a double-header with one of the local rivals. Guess they could swap and have the home meeting in the evening, there are quite a few that would head down to Foxhall from Portman Road...

The biggest surprise for me was Nuneaton - 87 arrests for violent disorder! I'm assuming this was either one big incident that got completely out of hand, or else they have got a hardcore that cause trouble at most games... Anybody know the story?

Noon Deadline for Barnet Ticket Offer

Would have been good for this to have been in the original info released by Barnet, we all assumed we could just turn up on the gate to get the deal.

Oh well, sorted now...

Chopra Quits Twitter After Posting Cash Photo
at 21:05:21

Breaking news:

Police were called to the home of Ipswich Town striker Michael Chopra this evening following reports of an intruder at his property. Chopra, 27, was in the middle of receiving his delivery from Tesco at the time of the incident.
Inspector Peter Lod said that it was believed the burglar was after a carrier bag containing a large amount of cash as 3 bags containing boxes of Tesco Value tissues were taken at the same time.
The victim was unable to comment and was last seen wiping away tears with a pair of goalkeeper's gloves which were dropped by the suspect during his getaway.

Pitch Currently Under Cover and Playable
at 17:26:03

I just hope that they take into account the actual snowfall upto Friday night AND any forecast for Saturday to make an early decision rather than end up with the farces we had against Leicester (even though we won, the 2nd half especially was a joke), Middlesbrough last season and the late Boxing Day call-off against Watford which was never going to happen according to reports from within the ground staff.

I guess all I am asking for is consideration for the fans, if it looks more likely to not go ahead than a slim chance it will, call it off early, save the fans a wasted journey, money and time, then they can go and do something else with their Saturday and not be grumbling about getting there and having to turn around to go back.

Hyam a Doubt, Reo-Coker Out
at 12:15:47

Bluefeast mentions that he was alert for the goal, not just alert but also spot on with his timing. If you watch the mobile phone footage on YouTube from the Cobbold stand you can pause it just as DJ is about to take the penalty. Now, normally when a player follows up you will find that, if you look closely, they have encroached into the area before the ball is played, which would mean the goal could be ruled out.

If you check on Hyam, he doesn't actually step into the area until the moment DJ strikes the ball, there is one of our players on the other side that makes the step early and if it had gone that way then the ref could quite easily have disallowed the goal... That shows he has good discipline and is thinking about it, because go the other way, and be slow off the mark, and the defenders get there first to clear. So much Hyam does is done in the right way and I think this says a lot about him, much like Matt Holland 10 (and a bit) years ago, who I suspect may well be one of Luke's old heroes...

Town Announce Burnley Ticket Offer
at 20:42:22

if you are a little canny here, could you buy one of the cheapest tickets for Burnley (in the Lower Sir Bobby or Sir Alf), and then get your £10 ticket in Britannia Middle, or the upper Sir Alf/Sir Bobby or anywhere that would usually be more expensive?

The Past, the Present, the Highs and Lows
at 08:04:16

I think this is a great blog, brings back some great memories. It would be churlish to point out a couple of mistakes in the timeline, so I won't!

I was having a conversation with someone the other day and I firmly believe we went wrong as a Club in the summer of 2001. This isn't even in hindsight as I said it at the time, even getting slapped down by the club representative in a Fans' Forum that September for daring to suggest we were going in the wrong direction. My view was that we had a good philosophy in looking to the likes of Leicester and Charlton as a model up to that point, but after one season where we had qualified for Europe we were all of a sudden trying to model ourselves on the likes of Tottenham. Symptoms included the signings of Sereni and Finidi for big money AND big wages, upsetting the team spirit we obviously had in the dressing room, building the new North Stand so quickly after the South (we should have consolidated in the Prem for another season or two at least) and the sale (and treatment leading up to it) of Jamie Scowcroft.

There were many more, but for me, one of the biggest disappointments was that it was around this time that the club started to cut itself off from the fans, OK they did the official things, like the Fans' Forum, but in other ways fans were very much treated as customers, or even, for example, trespassers if you dared to set foot in the ground on a non-matchday!

When I was 15 I went down to Ipswich one day in half-term with a mate. We wandered down to the ground and I was able to show him where I stood in the West Stand. A chap came out from the reception as we were walking down the back of the stand, I thought we were going to get told off but instead he asked us if we wanted a quick look round. The tour took us round the offices, board room, dressing rooms, down the side of the pitch to the dugouts, the works. It was brilliant and I've never forgotten it to this day, Paul Murray his name was, and I have occasionally seen him at games over the years and it still makes me smile. But could you see that happening now?

Thought provoking blog Edmunds5, keep it up.

By the way, liked the comment at the end as well, "Thanks for listening, I would appreciate any comments.", sounds like an entrepreneur at the end of their pitch to the Dragons....

Algarve - sounds good to me, find an opposition we could play and then we'll try to find a date we can get cheap flights, I'm sure a few of us would be up for it! We played in Moscow you know!

Ever Dreamed of Playing for Town?
at 23:04:31

I think this blog sums up the feelings of the vast majority of Ipswich fans. To Brighton fans I apologise for the offence caused by a small minority chasing media coverage for their own cause. Unfortunately they have got it, but at the same time I hope it also highlights that their views are not representative of all of us.
