I would say Wrexham v Leicester is guaranteed to be the opening game. You can write the narrative now …. “Ten years ago Leicester were about to start the season that would see them crowned Premier League champions while Wrexham were playing The Dog & Duck etc etc”. |

I think this scheme can sit alongside the Rooney Rule and make it more meaningful. Rooney says you have to have one non-white applicant on the shortlist. But, if people of colour are not even getting the opportunity to start their coaching career, that Rooney Rule candidate is likely to get rejected because of lack of experience. If this scheme removes such barriers then I’m all for it. |
 | Forum Reply | Who apart from Delap at 17:34 20 Apr 2025
It’s very possible that Hutchinson and others will have similar types of release clauses to Delap. Presumably their wages go down in the event of relegation so it would be remiss of the agent not to push for one. |

For colour blind people a blue v claret shirt clash isn’t ideal. It happened at Villa when we played there. |
 | Forum Reply | The club will surely have known at 23:57 12 Apr 2025
And it would have been reasonable for them to insist on it, particularly as we’d have been insisting on a big wage reduction for LD if we got relegated. |
 | Forum Reply | 30m release clause for Delap when we go down at 17:35 11 Apr 2025
Absolutely right. And remember that relegation clauses work both ways - if Delap stayed he would almost certainly be facing a wage cut because we’ve gone down. So it’s perfectly reasonable for his agents to insert a clause that stops us holding on to him at all costs. I suspect that most if not all our summer signings have similar clauses in their contracts (“Your wages go down by x% unless someone offers £y million for you in which case you’re free to go”). It’s just that, other than Delap, no one will be offering £y million for them. |

The fact that the U21 games are only friendlies might help him, but I suspect Tuchel will think short term and go for Solanke. |

I’m pretty sure I went to that one and that my sister played in a vaguely official fans netball game against Coventry fans at a sports centre connected with CCFC beforehand (I think it was called the Sky Blue Connexion [sic]). |

I can’t access the link but it could be Tim Ewart, later of ITN fame, who I think was on Radio Orwell at about that time. |

The Palace of the Parliament is definitely worth a visit - the tour guides are knowledgeable and engaging. |
 | Forum Reply | £40m straight buy back for Delap…. at 14:19 13 Feb 2025
The sell on percentage will be based on profit rather than sale price, so a ÂŁ50m sale nets us ÂŁ43m if we paid ÂŁ15m, but your point is still right. |
 | Forum Reply | £40m straight buy back for Delap…. at 12:19 13 Feb 2025
There’s probably a sell on clause if we sell to anyone else, so selling to City for £40m is likely to be the same as selling to someone else for £45m - £50m, which is not far off what he’d fetch in an open market (especially if we get relegated). So while it’s a bit short of what we’d like, it’s not the worst deal in the world for us. |
 | Forum Reply | United want Delap at 15:57 8 Feb 2025
It would be completely unenforceable if Delap wanted to go somewhere else (or indeed stay with us). But clubs as a whole are very reluctant to get involved with challenging the status quo on the transfer system, even if it works against them in individual situations, because there’s a danger of the whole house of cards collapsing, which no club wants. The major changes (Bosman, Diarra, all the way back to George Eastham) have come from individual players being prepared to go out on a limb. |

"A move [for Flynn Downes] to the Tractor Boys would be welcomed by all parties but it is currently considered unlikely." Nailed on he's pictured holding our shirt later today, then. [Post edited 3 Feb 15:24]

They’ve mentioned a couple of times on The Price of Football that in previous seasons we’ve subscribed to Tony Bloom’s analytics information, but now we’re in the same division as Brighton we can’t do that any more. Wonder how much of an effect that’s having? |
