this looks a huge downgrade on Morsy and Massimo
at 21:00 8 Aug 2025

I'm more concerned with both of them being on a yellow, Humphreys our only real option doesn't particularly seem like an answer. I think Szmodics maybe needs to play a little deeper.

Matusiwa on his debut and against probably the best midfield pairing in the division, give them a chance ffs!

The long sleeve walk out/training tops at £69 look particularly insanely priced. They can't sell many at that price, surely?

Dull squad numbers questions...
at 09:36 7 Aug 2025

As I understand it, senior players are usually given their pick of squad number, but I've always wondered exactly how this all works. E.g. why wouldn't O'Shea, now captain, take the #4 shirt? Assuming it's just personal preference (which I don't really understand)? Or if O'Shea didn't want #4 why not Greaves?

The other one is the keeper numbers, happy to see Palmer at #1 but it does make me wonder how that gets ironed out. Muric and Walton will both perhaps feel they have a rightful claim. Is this a bit of tricky man management, as it shows the gaffer's hand in terms of what the actual pecking order is, or am I overthinking things?

Also wondering about that vacant #8, surprised someone like Taylor, Ogbene or even Jack Clarke haven't wanted it.

Will be registered and announced as late as possible to keep our powder dry for Friday, I suspect.

Got to hand it to Brum, they've played that well.

Akpom is highly unlikely to do any more than get a few minutes off the bench for us, even if registered in time, surely?

No way of knowing where he placed on our list of potential targets and what other irons we had in the fire 3 weeks ago.

I suspect we prefer a loan to avoid giving a lucrative contract to a player which we will then be hamstrung by if we don't get promoted this season. Remains to be seen whether, assuming the latest reports are true, we'll now be prepared to take that risk in order to sign him permanently and gazump Birmingham again.

From what I recall, ALB only came in as we literally had no other option. Gerken was preferred when fit and was the better keeper by some distance, despite being suspect from corners himself.

ALB did have a few games where he performed well, no doubt about it, but was a very limited player.

Because I have eyes, watched his warm up work, saw the defence reaction to his presence in games, observed the number of times his positioning was poor or he flapped at a cross and got away with it. Also, see his career before and after his spell with us.

Worst keeper I've seen play for Town is Arran Lee Barrett. Ironically and to his considerable credit he actually punched above his ability massively when he did actually play, but should have never been anywhere near our first team.

Most football fans wouldn't know a good goalkeeper if they smacked them in the face. Muric and Sereni being mentioned in threads like this, case in point.

Has a town player ever scored with a bicycle kick?
at 10:39 4 Aug 2025

I seem to recall Alun Armstrong scoring an acrobatic volley that was maybe 2/3rds of the way to qualifying as a bicycle kick?

Shared Success - Town & Morsy
at 20:27 24 Jul 2025

Couldn't have put it better.

More than any other attribute, in those two promotion seasons he just so rarely made an error or lost possession. His ability to look after the ball was unparalleled and he was so useful at winning possession when we didn't have it. That gave us so much control in games, without it we would have been a fraction of the team we were.

If he had a yard or two more pace he would have done it in the premier league too.

Tough decision by the club not to extend his deal, but the right one I feel.

We've also gone down a division, I know how ambitious we are but we may have to cut our cloth for the championship a little.

Really? Burns, Ogbene, Chaplin, Broadhead, Clarke and Philogene isn't enough options?

I won't be surprised if we do sign a replacement and of course it's not an either/or, but it's central mid and line leading strikers we need.

Edit: I even forgot Szmodics!
