Anybody on here based in Bangkok or anywhere else in Thailand?
at 12:32 10 Sep 2025

It certainly is. It's like a temple but isn't quite a temple, made entirely by hand in wood (though the columns are concrete and covered in wooded carvings). I can't remember exactly but they've been building it for around 40 years and I suspect it will take many more years to complete. Nothing like the scale of Barcelona's Sagrada Familia cathedral but those that come up with these long-term projects are true visionaries.

There's a restaurant and cafes, elephant rides around the sanctuary and a small zoo all on-site.

Various parts of Pattaya flood when it rains heavily but the flooded roads soon clear once it stops raining and motorbike taxis and baht buses still run. It's rainy season but don't let that put you off, there are still long dry periods.

Jomtiem is quite nice, I stayed there for a couple of months when I first arrived here. Nice beach, loads of bars and restaurants, the night market, floating market, big parks and the elephant sanctuary nearby. The infamous Walking Street and city centre is only a 10-15 minute motorbike ride away. However, the area has been overrun with Russians in recent years, though that's not necessarily an issue because they generally stick to their own groups and there's very little hassle anywhere other than the occasional drunken Brit humiliating himself lol.

If you do come to Pattaya I recommend Wongamat Beach area in Naklua (North Pattaya). Lots of nice hotels, great beach (much cleaner than Pattaya beach!) loads of 'normal' bars, restaurants, shops and massage shops. Can walk the whole area. Terminal 21 shopping mall is nearby, Central Festival shopping mall and the seedier parts of Pattaya are again just 10-15 minutes away. And there are some good tourists sites fairly nearby such as the Sanctuary of Truth and the Millions Years Stone Park (check them out on Google).

Hey, despite what another poster said about avoiding Pattaya I’m staying in Naklua, North Pattaya. I’ve spent a lot of time in Hua Hin but came to Pattaya to work at at a big Thai engineering company. We have an ITFC Pattaya group of 8, including a Swede 🇸🇪 and a Norwegian 🇳🇴 who have supported Town for 20+ years. We meet to watch most Town matches in Witherspoons but the next match against Sheff U is a Friday night late kick-off so we won’t be meting up. If you do make it to Pattaya for a few days I’m sure you could meet up with some of the group one evening for a few pints 🍻

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended….
at 12:56 12 May 2025

It's truly pathetic what goes on during corners these days and sadly we're now just as bad as the well known shytehousert teams. Greaves, Tuanzebe and Davis are hugging and pulling the shirts of opposing players at every corner and frankly we've been very lucky not to concede more penalties this season. Something drastic is needed, not just words from referees or reliance on the incompetence of VAR referees. Maybe introduce a non-yellow card 5 minute sin bin. When a referee is unsure who is the main instigator. Send the first 2 hugging perpetrators to the sin bin, then if necessary the next 2, until a decent corner is able to be taken without all the hugging, holding, shirt pulling, rugby tackling antics that we see today!

@Phil. Although I’ve been a member of TWTD for many years I rarely post because of the pathetic rancour and deliberate provocation by many posters. Personally, I think you’re far too tolerant. Yellow and red cards or some other naughty step warning would be time consuming and difficult for you to manage, not that you should have to do so. Most of the friction, goading and in-fighting appears in the general section so why not just close it down for a month initially and make this a footy related forum only?

While we all continue to celebrate and think only about Town's brilliant success you just had to get in a political dig ... pathetic!!
