It felt that semis were held at Villa Park and Highbury every single year. Like a comfortable tradition.
Imagine my surprise then when I checked and Highbury has only hosted 12 semi finals, same as White Hart Lane and less than Bramall Lane and bizarrely, the Oval. |

I remember the heady days of replays, 2nd replays and 3rd replays.
A line needs to be drawn somewhere obviously but part of that romance of the cup was holding a big team to a draw to earn a lucrative replay at Old Trafford or somewhere.
The three UEFA comps will see teams playing an extra couple of group games before the knockout stages. Coincidence? |

When you have a name that can spelled two (or more) different ways and you send somebody a work email (which obviously shows the correct spelling), then the fecker replies saying 'Hi (wrong spelling), thank you for your email.

I fancy you lot to get a result against Leeds at Loftus Road, not just because of the favour it would do us either.
They won't fancy going to a loud, smaller, compact stadium when they are under pressure and needing a result, especially when you need a result yourself. |

It would be very Championship-esque. Nobody has mentioned WBA really have they. Just sat in 5th place all year. All the talk has been the top 4 and recently Nodge breaking away from the chasing play-off pack. |

97-98 was tight and has one or two similarities to this year.
Forest 94, Boro 91, Sunderland 90. Two of the three places went to the last day.
They were all previously relegated the year before.
Sunderland went on a Saints style run from nowhere to contend 2nd spot (we beat them at Portman Road in the penultimate game to stop them going into the last day in 2nd)
The less fancied team (Charlton) went up in the play-offs. |

I think for Southampton to go up with anybody other than us, there would've had to have been a major set of results not in our favour to have happened. That's how I see it but this is football.

Have to laugh at the ebbs and flows of this. It's been remarkable. A few weeks ago, Leeds were going to be presented with the trophy before the kick off as Saints snugly finished in the 4th place they've occupied since the year dot.
Got a feeling WBA will lose their friend 5th place as well. I don't want the top 6 to feature anyone else as that would likely mean Hull or Cov do us.
I think the 6 will be as it is but the order may surprise some. |
