just got back from Gillingham...
at 23:29 21 Sep 2019

I thought the game was pretty dire, TBH. But great that we're churning out 3 points while playing badly.

That was my first away game but I thought it was a bit flat, crowd-wise. Was it a one-off? Or is that what it's like at away games these days? I thought it was going to be a bit rowdy (fun rowdy, not fighty rowdy)...

Pub in Rochester for the Gillingham game?

Are people boozing in Rochester beforehand? Be good to get in a decent pub there as it's nicer than Gillingham, innit?

...do the players still get play bonuses/goal bonuses etc? I can't imagine they get those for friendlies, just for games where it matters.

Not an important thing, but was just wondering! And does this mean that KVY hasn't made his official debut yet?

Why do we interchange fixtures with Norwich?
at 10:49 13 Jun 2019

Might be a daft question but it'd never occurred to me until I saw it on here that if we play at home, Norwich play away.... why?

Surely we don't share any police with them as they're a different county and they can't possibly do the same with all the London clubs who are much closer, so why's it different for us?

West Ham's new kit...
at 20:15 30 May 2019

Not only is it created specially for them by Umbro rather than being an off-the-peg shirt with a badge stuck on it, they're also offering it without a sponsor for adults.

Not sure how it works with the sponsor (whether they had to do a deal that meant a reduction in the money on offer) but it turns out it's possible.

Man City FFP
at 12:39 16 May 2019

Does anyone know why City have been caught cheating FFP twice now, but only for the Champions League, not the Premier League? Is that because the PL are too scared to do anything to one of their big clubs, or is it because the rules are different in the CL?

Can you record red button games on Sky?

Wouldn't mind recording the match on Sun but can you actually do that if it's not the main thing on that channel? On a Virgin Tivo box, if that makes any difference...

Trains London - Ipswich
at 17:31 13 Aug 2018

Hi everyone. Got my derby tickets but just like last year, the trains are a shower of sh!te so would need to get a 1hr 30 min bus from Ingatestone to Ipswich. Means leaving the house at 7am to get to the game on time!

Is there another, roundabout way of getting there via somewhere else that might be better than that route? I drove last time round but really fancy a drink this year!

Having been at Fulham on Tuesday and now watching Norwich on the telly...
at 19:30 6 Jan 2018

...it's really hard to find anything to get excited about at the moment.

We were absolutely dire at Fulham. And today our manager is talking about how happy he is with our performance in getting knocked out of the cup to a team from our division.

And the worst thing is that today - and Tuesday - isn't a surprise to anyone. We all knew it was coming. Watching Fleetwood on the TV earlier and now Norwich not just holding Chelsea to a draw but looking more likely to win it... when was the last time we had that kind of belief - where we went into a big game and thought 'maybe we'll nick this one'...?

I don't even feel any anger towards MM, to be honest, I just think our club is in a dire state and we fooled ourselves with a few good performances at the start of the season and I can't muster any kind of emotion about it at all.

Mick McCarthy on a train back from London last week
at 17:28 29 Apr 2017

My mate bumped into MM last week on a train out of London and spent the whole journey talking to him. He's not an Ipswich fan so didn't ask a great deal about our plight, but he said MM was very open about his frustration at not getting any money to spend. He said the club was skint (so stopped short of actually blaming ME), but said it's become a tough job and my mate got the impression from the way he was talking that he felt it was getting tougher and tougher - i.e. that he's not sure we'll go up at ANY point.

He also said that he desperately hoped Sunderland didn't go down - not just because of his ties, but because he wasn't looking forward to those ridiculously long trips up there to play them.

I feel sorry for Mick sometimes. Yeah, we play terrible football (and I was at Fulham watching professional footballers on thousands of pounds a week who were unable to put a free kick or corner into the box, and that's entirely on Mick's shoulders), but ultimately we're a terrible club at the moment, from top to bottom. He knows it, but he can't come out and slate the owner - he's just got to get on with his job as best he can...
