I really admire your optimism (there's precious little of it on here sometimes), but I can't see how we're best placed to jump up from our mini league into the top 17 PL teams, when three of that mini league are in the PL this season and we're not?! |
 | Forum Reply | Sarina Wiegman at 17:57 30 Jul 2025
I think she could... but who would take that punt? I don't think many owners are that brave, especially when the stakes are so high. Can't really see how that bridge is crossed without either a manager like Wiegman taking a job way below her station and working her way up, paving the way for people behind her, or if she took an assistant role first and got her foot in the door. I can't see her - or any successful women's boss - doing that, so I'd be surprised if we saw a woman managing a men's team in the next decade or so. |

He should go for the feet-apart, Tory power-stance that the last mob were advised to do. That was great and made them look really big and strong and powerful. |

Nah, I've got a big dog. Luckily, burglars don't know that the one time I lost my keys and had to climb in through an upstairs window, the idiot was waiting at the bottom of the stairs with a ball to play with... |
 | Forum Reply | Rashford - How in earth has he pulled off a move to Barca??? at 10:21 24 Jul 2025
I think he's struggled with his confidence. Not basing that on anything other than watching his general demeanor, but when you're a young lad on wages that place extra pressure on you (granted, he took those wages, but there's no doubt they add an extra layer of pressure), with a coach making you a scapegoat, in an underperforming team (with all the fan abuse/pressure that comes with it) and a media constantly digging you out, it's hardly surprising that it'd all become too much after a while. He certainly won't be free of pressure at Barca, but I'd imagine a fresh start will be good for him. New media, new fans, new team. Even at Villa he looked to be improving but he still had the baggage of 'being Marcus Rashford' in the UK. |

tbf people probably wouldn't pay that to see Oasis every Saturday and quite a few midweek evenings as well, so it's an odd comparison. |
 | Forum Reply | 'Frightening list of transfer targets' at 09:36 23 Jul 2025
Genuine question, because I'm not really clued up on Championship players, really. If you take our August games - Brum, Saints, PNE, Derby - which is not an easy start, by any means, how many of their players would you switch for ours in a starting XI? Like I said, I'm not doing that as a gotchya because I'm not much of a player/team statto - I watch us play and that's it - but I kinda feel like our team is pretty strong, position for position, even if we'd like to improve a couple of those spots? |
 | Forum Reply | Third shirt leaked… at 17:35 22 Jul 2025
Yeah. It's a weird one because I'm pretty certain Castore bought out Umbro so they could use their superior manufacturing/factory contacts etc (they'd had problems with quality previously), so to see them using their own manufacturing process but badging it as Umbro is a weird move. But regardless, the sponsor size isn't down to the manufacturer. It'll be added long after the shirts are created and wouldn't be part of their design process. |
 | Forum Reply | Third shirt leaked… at 17:24 22 Jul 2025
To be fair, that's not on Umbro. I doubt they have any say at all on how the sponsor appears (in fact I'd bet they designed the kit long before the sponsor was even confirmed) |

It's absolutely wild how much tickets cost these days. When I was a nipper, my Dad took me to so many big gigs (I had no idea at the time who half the artists were but looking back, it's no wonder I ended up getting in to music). There's no way he could do that nowadays at these prices. |
 | Forum Reply | The realities of the Music Industry 2025 at 14:56 18 Jul 2025
Hero! But even on those, often bloody huge concert promoters/venues take a cut of the merch sales, which is ridiculous. Everyone takes their pound and the artist is always the one left with the pennies. |

Nobody just drops self-published tracks on to Spotify and 'makes it', though. That's a complete myth. I was in a band back in the day that did 'OK', long before Spotify. We were of the 'home made CDs to give out after a gig' era. I wish we had Spotify back then but only because it would've been an easy way for people to look us up after they've left our gig. Same for Instagram, really. It would've helped massively. BUT... none of that would have counted for anything if we weren't playing hundreds of gigs, all of which we lost money on. And I mean ALL of them. We once played as a support band in a sold out Brixton Academy for two nights. Our fee? £100 for the two nights, between four people. It's always been like that, but nowadays the expectation is that music is free. Worthless art doesn't earn a living. Spotify promised a lot, but actually just delivered a hammer blow to the industry. |

... but if any of them DO collapse and die in the heat, we can just blame vaccines, so it still won't move the needle amongst those types when it comes to climate change discussions. |

Would they be on our radar to spend millions on? Probably not. But would we take two highly regarded young players on a free? Yeah, I reckon we would. That's the comparison to make, not whether we'd be looking to buy them when they have little experience at our level. Ultimately, we shouldn't get rid until we're absolutely certain they're not going to make the grade for us. I don't think we can do that yet - at their age and without playing a game or two for us now. Loans are a good benchmark and that's why it's good that they're going out and playing seasons of 'proper' football. |
 | Forum Reply | Michael Woolf adamant on existence of photos and videos of Trump at 15:19 13 Jul 2025
I'm pretty much certain that Trump is heavily involved but I think it goes deeper than just him and his cronies trying to keep it hidden. I think it's a fair question as to why the Biden/Harris teams didn't release this stuff when it looked like Trump was able to win a second term. It would have been the ultimate election winner for them. Obviously, that might be (probably is) because Democrats were involved as well, but I also think that those behind the scenes wouldn't let ANYTHING of this nature come out, regardless of political leanings, because of what it would do to America's standing in the world. Even if it was the Dems in power now, I reckon the FBI would be frantically 'losing' all the evidence on Trump and others. It's just too big a blackmail/economic fallout/America becoming a laughing stock risk |

Calling it a 'winning run' is a bit of a stretch, too. It's a 'not losing' run. |

This idea of us playing catchup if other clubs are making signings... why? If other clubs are signing the players WE want, then sure that makes sense. But otherwise, there's no rush, is there? What's the difference if we bought everyone we wanted on day one and all the other clubs bought their players at the rate they are now, compared to if they buy now and we buy at the end of the transfer window? Ultimately we either get the players we want or we don't. |

 | Forum Reply | New kits! at 10:25 7 Jul 2025
Realistically, what percentage of fans buy GK kits? It can't be that high - as evidenced by the fact that Nike initially didn't even bother releasing the Mary Earps shirt when England were winning trophies. I don't see that many people wearing them, so it probably doesn't make much sense to spend a load of time/money designing custom GK kits for every club. I have to say though, as a colourblind bloke, that GK kit isn't particularly easy to distinguish from the home or away shirts in a crowded penalty box |
