Anyone else been following the downfall of Farsley Celtic?
at 16:13 30 Jun 2025

I don't think there will any football at all this season. They need to lay a pitch and spruce up facilities which were allowed to run down - as well as get finances sorted so they can sign and, importantly, pay players. They say they've consulted the NCEL through the process but a few supporters are wondering whether they can simply rejoin later without having to start again via the feeder leagues. Who knows.

I've been going to Farsley for over 30 odd ( very odd) years and last season was one of 3 season tickets holders. The previous owner was an utter charlatan, promising much but delivering nothing but debt and disappointment. Got to the stage where players, suppliers and staff were not getting paid - including youngsters working behind the bar still owed money. Ended the season playing a full academy side with home games at Buxton 70 miles away as he'd dug up the pitch for an all weather surface which wasn't laid. They still have no pitch and plenty of debt.

Luckily the ground has a covenant protecting use for sporting purposes. Stocky is fairly local and has a chance to rebuild the club and reconnect with the community. Good luck to him. He's already gone back to the old name for the ground, Throstle Nest rather than the Citadel, binned the Games of Thrones style badge and reinstated the traditional blue kit and branding over the recent green and white hoops. All he needs to gain my full support is to do something about the dreadful beer in the clubhouse.

Further Town connection - Georges Santos turned out for them a few times.

I used to enjoy Bunty Frobisher and her pals from East Cheam Tennis Club turning up for a bit of judging. Always some good comedy business to be had.

Most Millwall fans are ok - it's the day trippers who turn up for certain games that can be a problem

Phil… what other possible names were there for TWTD when you launched?

Sadly not, at least as far as I could see. It's only a couple of rooms and being in Leeds it's a bit LUFC loaded.

A Load of Cobbolds too.

If anyone is in or passing through Leeds there a nice little exhibition in the library on fanzines and fan culture. Be warned though, there is a large Duncan Forbes flag.
