Also, the italians largely dont travel abroad, much like the English didnt when we had no money.

Is Serie A exactly what the PL was about 25 years ago?
And the PL vice versa?

It really seemed like something when Klinsmann, Gullit, VIalli were coming to the PL. Then it gradually moved.
Ibrahimovic is a perfect example of the change, as good as he still is anyway.

But Inter did manage to find £70m down the sofa for Lukaku.

Record goal scorers by decade?
at 21:38 15 Jan 2020

Counago is a surprise, but given that the club completely changed over the course of the decade, there would be very few who were there for all of it and he managed most of it in 2 spells.
Its only people like Fabian that I can think of who actually stayed for longer in that time.

I think you could just shorten the title to "Paul" and cover all the Pauls in the same sorry chapter.

Yeah, thats a really good point. Especially when we were so desperate for a midfield change v Gillingham.

I think Lambert has made his decision. If you cant even get on the pitch when doing this heavy rotation, then there is no hope.

Hes had 7 starts and played at least an hour in all of them, thats not bad. He ought to be up to speed by now, surely enough to make some sort of noticeable impact that gets him more time.

Yeah, going through it a lot depends on the fitness of Donacien, Skuse and Nolan.
If all are fit, I think all will play. If Donacien isnt fit, then I doubt we will change too much defensively and Wilson will come in at right back (or swap with Woolfenden).

Up front, Keane for Norwood.
Keep Jackson for his pace, especially away from home.

Sears not fit enough yet and probably played more than expected today too.

Know what you mean about Dozzell. Needs a bit more aggression, or more simply to just get right forward and push at the opposition, put fear into them.
I think too often hes deep enough that he doesnt really pose them enough problems.

Chambers and Skuse

Why would they give them a free pass? They dont know them?
If anything, each new manager owes them nothing and can easily drop them. But each one wants to play them every week....

Just to pre-empt it, I think we have to expect there will be changes on Wednesday.
And thats reasonable given that we will be playing our 3rd game inside a week and Norris, Donacien, Garbutt, Woolfenden, Edwards, Judge, Norwood and Jackson have all started both games.
Id be really surprised to see all of them start again on Wednesday. If Nolan and Skuse are fit, Id expect to see both back in the team, but if we have to change Edwards and Judge, then it might mean a formation change too.
I will have some sympathy for it this time.

I thought we played pretty well in the first half, certainly better than in recent games and deserved to be level.
But the second goal was catastrophic and at totally the wrong time.
I think there is something in a midfield with Judge/Dozzell/Downes as they are all comfortable on the ball and Downes/Judge and Edwards pressed well too.

Problem is that we got completely caught by balls in behind the fullbacks, with little cover.
It didnt help having to play 3 different players at RB either.

McCarthy walked into the club and, within a week, had got us defensively solid and within a month we were competitive and winning games.
If we appointed him tomorrow, Id put money on us winning this division. Not saying Id want him to stay beyond that, mind you....

Chambers and Skuse

I did. It says this... "They are the common denominator in our decline under MM, PH and PH."
If we are talking about declne "since MM" then we can probably throw Jackson, Edwards, Nolan and Nsiala under the bus as common denominators. After all, we have only ever been rubbish when they are here. Whilst we have actually been good at times with Chambers and Skuse.

You mean Johnathan Parr who could only get a contract offer from Norway when he wasnt wanted at ITFC?

The "common denominator"?
On that basis, we have been on a decline ever since Downes got in the side, so maybe hes a common denominator?

Exactly.
PL could easily have moved them on if needed. And the players will both know that too.
Player power only works if the player actually holds power. Chambers/Skuse need Lambert as much as he needs them.

Not based on today but Dozzell..
at 21:49 29 Dec 2019

I thought Downes, Judge and Dozzell all looked decent together in the first half. Interchanged with each other, kept up the urgency, pressed well.
