League One Salary Cap a Step Nearer
It’s the only way to save clubs from financial ruin I guess but it’s going to hit ITFC hard. Clubs & players will have to adjust to it & it won’t be easy.
Going forward I can see players contracts even more being based on what division they are playing in. The top players will continue to get very big money but for those outside the premier league I think the gravy train will be considerably slower!
I also suspect clubs will be looking at finding loopholes in any salary caps although I’m not sure selling your ground every 5 minutes like Derby do will help in this case!
Garbutt Not Ruling Out Town Return
I get the feeling he will only sign here if he doesn’t get a better offer & at this time in his career who can blame him. Better might not necessarily be the highest wages but where he feels happiest & probably where he is likely to get games.
All best are off transfer wise at the moment so many players may not get the options they hope for
League One Clubs Vote to End Season Early
Disappointed that they couldn’t find a way to complete the season as they will do in Premier & Championship but understandably some teams couldn’t afford it. Brings to an end an awful season that has to go down as on of the lowest points in the clubs history. Important that they finally made a decision though & amusing that Peterborough missed out. Now thoughts move to next season and to how that will work and how/when fans will be able to return. I really hope no clubs go to the wall but unless some money makes it’s way to smaller clubs unfortunately some will close. Time for football to rebuild and move away from being purely about money
Town Propose Play-Off Expansion
Surprised we didn’t propose a scheme where only teams that start with the letter I are promoted?!
It isn’t that much more ludicrous than some of the other ideas. I really think all 4 divisions should do the same thing which is finish the season behind closed doors. I know the money is an issue for smaller clubs but there is enough money in English football to easily fund this & not have any clubs go to the wall.
Unfortunately all the clubs are purely looking at self interest and it’s making for an embarrassing situation. Surely the EFL must realise now they will never get an agreement and just make a decision which everyone abides by
EFL Still Aiming to Play Remaining Fixtures
It just seems to be all about money. Fans, players, managers, club staff, medical staff etc the safety and health of them should be paramount but football making sure it’s backers don’t take their money back seems to be the main concern.
It’s blatantly obvious that football with fans is about 7 or 8 months away & football should be in front of fans not empty stadiums. I agree this season should not be voided and ideally played to a finish but not by putting lives at risk to satisfy Sky & betting firms.
EFL Aiming for June 6th Restart Claim
Just madness. They need to wait until this virus is fully contained. Football can continue afterwards & season can be finished in front of fans when it is safe to do so.
The delay can be as long as is needed
EFL Aiming to Resume Season Behind Closed Doors in June
All football governing bodies seem to be interested in is money. No thoughts of fans, clubs, player safety, officials safety, coaches and medical staff safety. All about the money!
Football should continue to be on hold until all restrictions have gone THEN restart the season with fans present. Other seasons can wait until it’s safe
Confirmation of Behind Closed Doors Games Expected Today
Surely postponing the matches to played at a later date makes more sense as some of the few people who will be at these behind closed doors matches could have covid19 & spread it to the players meaning games would then be postponed in any case whilst players self isolated?
Ipswich Town 0-1 Coventry City - Match Report
A much better performance than Tuesday which wasn’t hard but at least this time the players really gave everything showing bravery & determination. Unfortunately against a team high on confidence top of the league on a long unbeaten run this alone was never going to be enough. Mitigating factors such as our poor run, lack of confidence & number of players unavailable make the result not a surprise but still tough to take. To see how low this club has fallen under Evans stewardship is heartbreaking but I really don’t think even after 12 years he gets football so he won’t understand how we are feeling. I do fear this club will never move forward under him yet an alternative owner does not seem easily available.
However even taking into account Evans poor stewardship & the never ending injury list, this club still has more than enough to at worse be top 6 in this league & the fact we won’t be this season especially after our start to the season is on Lambert. I think most fans have lost faith in him & probably many of the players too. For that he has to be removed. It’s a shame as I think off the pitch he has done some good things for the club & gets what the club means which I think managers since Jim haven’t done. Yet tactically he is inept, has been found out & unfortunately all the good he has done is being eroded fast. The club cannot allow this to drift at this low level & at this time. Season ticket renewal will be due soon & people won’t renew unless the club shows its trying to change. Big 6 months or so ahead for ITFC
Ipswich Town 0-1 Fleetwood Town - Match Report
First half 8 of our starting line up didn’t try. That is disgusting disgraceful and out of order. They were not fit to wear the shirt & I would not lose any sleep if some of them never played for the club again. If they cannot try to perform for this club then they can get lost. If they cannot deal with the pressure of a promotion battle then perhaps they need to work a week in an underfunded A&E department or in police or forces or a zero hour commission only job with mounting bills to pay. That is pressure & stress! They are pampered overpaid wasters who need a massive wake up call. Ultimately the blame for tonight falls on Lambert & I cannot see how he can recover from this & for him to stay at the club now is probably only going to make things worse. Evans is slowly killing this club & I don’t think he cares but getting rid of him won’t be easy.
Blackpool 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Disgrace! This club has well and truly messed up the season. The owner is disinterested and penny pinching. The manager talks a good game but is tactically naive and increasingly seemingly unable to know what to do to turn it around. The players are making unforced errors and seem to have no idea & are under performing. Whatever Lambert said when he had a go at Phil the other week we have one of the biggest budgets in this league & owner, coaching staff & players are all underperforming if we don’t reach top 6 as a minimum. The way all our injuries seem to take longer to get over & players seemingly needing 2 operations instead of 1 is that pointing to scrimping on the medical side?
Worse of all there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel, no plan of how we are going to improve, just sound bytes about academy.
Marcus Evans has stabilised the club financially but is clueless onto how to move it forward and unwilling to invest enough to make improvement more likely so until that changes the decline will continue.
Of the 8 clubs above us 7 have massively smaller budgets yet manage to produce winning football on a budget so it is possible
Ipswich Town 0-1 Oxford United - Match Report
We controlled the first 44 minutes but couldn’t score & got caught by a sucker punch. After that the game became very frustrating & we increasingly didn’t look likely to score with all semblance of a system or plan going out of the window in a very disappointing & increasingly poor way. I NEVER leave before the end usually but did after the red card as my daughter was in tears at the frustration of it all as ITFC football has been her main source of joy during her mother’s current serious illness but seeing her team throw away promotion in this fashion was too much for her & her upset was too much for me.
It is a disgrace to see the club in such a decline with us being bettered by clubs with a fraction of the resources we have available. It is rank bad management from the top down with cutting costs to fit where we are being it seems the most important thing to Evans. If he won’t fund or run the club properly to give it a chance then what is the point? Lambert is showing himself to be tactically inept and is being outmanoeuvred by other managers & there is no real evident plan or pathway for improvement.
The sensible part of me says cancel my daughter’s & my direct debits tonight & stop putting ourselves through the pain but we cannot as we are addicted & the pain would not be lessened by not being there. I can only hope that somehow the club turns things around & we can enjoy our football again. 4 weeks ago after beating Lincoln we were top of the league. That feels like a lifetime ago tonight
Town Determined to Tackle Increase in Abusive Chanting
There is no place in football for racism, homophobia & xenophobia or at least there shouldn’t be. I have been to every home match plus 2 away this season & can honestly say I have not heard any of these chants this season or for that matter anyone audibly say anything like this but I guess it must be people saying things rather than chanting them.
I think it’s a society problem rather than just football but I am glad to see people feel nowadays able to take action on hearing racist or the like rather than being scared to speak out and equally glad the club is taking a strong stance.
As I said at the top there is no room in this club or this world for Racism, xenophobia or homophobia
Ipswich Town 4-1 Burton Albion - Match Report
We really needed that win. I thought we adapted so much better to the windy weather than Burton did getting the ball forward much quicker than of late & playing football in their half rather than our own half. We created chances at will & should have scored more. More regular performances like this & we still have a chance of getting promotion
AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Just not good enough. It’s so sad to see this great club in such a decline with neither owner manager or players seeming to have any idea how to arrest the slide
