Surely football should follow the same rules as everyone else. Even in the peak of lockdown there has never been a requirement to wear masks outside. Inside the concourse should follow the same rules as shops, trains, etc - whatever rules are in force on the day of the game. Not for football clubs or businesses to make the law.
You're assuming he had like for like wages available to spend. I would hope these L1/2 players are on a lot less than the likes of McG, Waghorn, Celina, etc which is probably a big factor in us signing them.
Not defending Hurst BTW as clearly he didn't buy wisely just don't think MM would have reversed the downward trend either.
It's called targeted marketing. If everything had to appeal to everyone they would just sell one type of sandwich.
If you are triggered by the word gentleman or man you just select a different flavour and they make the sale anyway so not really isolating anyone. Same applies with Kleenex.
Heard the Arsenal fans singing this on Talk Sport this morning and thought I'd make an itfc version:
(To the Only Fools theme tune)
Defenders got Sears in his pocket He's chasing long balls from the back. 'Cos if you want good passing Then you don’t ask McCarthy, George Burley... he's your man. Where they all come from is a mystery It’s like Leon Best replacing Daryl Murphy But here’s the one that’s driving me berserk How is Mick McCarthy still in work? Na na na na na, na na na na na...
I'm predicting a 10% increase to pay for the inflation of management fees, loan interest and settling contracts on failed signings. Maybe they'll even use some of it to keep Mick on as Director of Football so we can retain his 'footballing' philosophy.
These jokers are literally running the club into the ground!
But that's the point. The focus needs to be on getting minority coaches into lower league manager and backroom staff jobs then naturally some will be successful and rise up into the top jobs and some won't. Not just through the selection process but through helping with coaching qualifications, generating contacts, mentoring, etc.
Trying to do it at the top seems bonkers given that managers are generally selected on past record at Premier League Level never mind at international level.
Serious question - do you really think if a black English manager had won major trophies at club level, say if they had Bobby Robson's record for example, the FA would not at least interview them anyway?
Presumably you would need a female candidate as otherwise it would be sexist? Then if you have a black candidate surely you should also have an Asian and Arabic candidate as otherwise they are being given an unfair chance. So a Male and Female of each and your up to 8. But don't stop there - you can't leave out LGBT people or non binary of each race so that makes 28. And why not throw different nationalities and religions into the mix?
Looks like the FA could be doing a lot of interviews.
I think it's a great idea in principal but how would it work in practice given the sheer lack of black managers?
Would an in work manager like Chris Hughton want to go and interview for another job knowing they are highly unlikely to get it?
Would it mean hauling in Paul Ince for an interview every time only to then reach the conclusion that a couple of good years at MK Dons doesn't quite qualify him for England?
Also are football managers really hired based on performance in an interview? I think record in other jobs and in this case international experience are surely the key criteria. I remember Mick McCarthy once saying he turned down Forrest he doesn't do interviews, I wonder how many other manager think like this?
